this is true on so many levels. Singaporeans be wanting to work to death to be "financially stable/secure" and be ready to settle down asap by age ___. and if you're enemployed for even a single month, be it to emotionally or physically recover, companies will ask you why you werent working for said time. As much as i love singapore for being a first world country and how it's safe, clean, and "provide many opportunities compared to other countries", whenever i'm doing what i actually want to, it's 100% always shut down. It's very demoralising to have my then-friends, colleagues, and even my own blood parents giving me a "look" when i told them i've decided to study at age 26.
I'm taking a degree in digital media and hoping to hone my skills and hopefully be an independent filmmaker. Because of this, i've quit many jobs i didnt like to be in cuz they didnt make me happy. Now i'm financially tight, bills are piling up, i'm in a new job i'm underqualified and hate, just to grit my teeth and hopefully learn enough about filmmaking to quit in the future. I dont mean to rant at the comment section, but your video sent a powerful enough message to remind me that the world is a harsh and unforgiving place, and no one's gonna care about you or make you happy, only yourself. thanks O+, i will support you in the future to come

We wish you all the best in your pursuit!! There's no one way to live your life and as long as you are pursuing what you hope to, it'll be worth it in the end! Thank you for the support ✨✨✨

To be honest, this is the first OGS video that I've downvoted because of how shameful the message is.
This is not an 'illusion' of choice. This is actual choice. Are you really not free to do whatever the hell you want here - 1. take the MRT at 830 am and cram in there with the rest of the sardines, 2. refuse to move in and block the MRT doorway like any one of those selfish idiots we've all encountered before, 3. eat char kway teow every day until you get sick, 4. stay single and have no kids - plenty of people do all the above, exercising their freedom of choice to do so.
Do you actually want to be late for work? Do you actually want to get health problems? It benefits society, sure, but that's because it benefits us as individuals first. Acting like 'nudges' are an insidious plan of an unknown puppet master is a bit childish/cringey. We are human beings, have weaknesses and face temptations, I would love to be paid to make the choice that benefits me - that's a bonus on top of the fact that it's the choice that ultimately benefits me anyway. It's not like I'm sacrificing myself for other people. Have I been manipulated into making a choice that I regret later on?
Show this video to someone living in any of the plenty of other countries where your kid can't get an education no matter how brilliant he/she is, where you get locked up for the wrong religious beliefs, where people have to flee as refugees because their country has become a failed state, and I'd feel so embarrassed to call you guys my fellow citizen. Really don't know where to put my face. Please get out a bit more - until there is a gun put to your head, please acknowledge that you have the privilege of those freedoms which others only wish for.
Really first world problems leh. Shameful, cringey, embarrassing.

I also think that every society is a nudge society. If you want to live a life making decisions independently, then you cannot be part of society what. Of course every decision we make is influenced by society or the people around, that is obvious. No decision or thought is original as we always have a frame of reference. Its just whether this frame of reference is diverse and inclusive.

That's exactly how it goes, but then they'll realise how much better it would be to actually live their life with their own decisions!

Most people are not really responsive to price change in fares to come in to work early. It worked only on the few that had a support system of an office that provides amenities early in the morning. People still value sleep over a mere few cents savings.

I appreciate the attempt to bring nudges into public attention but it will be a better video if you had dived deeper into what a nudge is exactly and how or whether it differs from typical incentivized decision-making. As it stands now, it's quite misleading and not very helpful. I hope future videos will be better! Good luck.

i uh... am confused so is this even a video essay or just an animation telling us theres a directed narrator in our heads, doesnt really examine why we have or what is the illusion of free choice in a nudge society at all?

Ahem, what nudges are happening to us on TH-cam or Facebook which you guys are taking advantage of for earning your advertising dollar? Could we have some transparency please?

What is the point of this video? To establish actions have consequences and that people around you are invested in you making good decisions?
