There is a way to save the red dot (red anodized aluminum disc). US Camera used to sell replacement red dots (Minolta part # 031-1074) for about $5. However, it looks like they're now out of stock (as of early 2023). The professional way to remove this screw with the dot and chrome bezel intact is to use a "pin vise" rather than pliers. The pin vise grips the bezel and removes it, usually with the screw and dot as one piece. The correct pin vise size for this screw and bezel is .050 to .125 inch (1.3 to 3.2 mm). Starrett makes a good one.
Great tutorial! I seem to have some foam residue on the prism and am wondering what tips you have for removing it and what I can use to replace the foam?
I wish I would have came across this a while ago, I tried doing it before and after watching this I might have accidentally removed more parts than I should have. Hopefully I can po it it back together.
every Japanese camera uses a JIS standard. By using the PH bit you can ruing the screws. It's a noob error, don't use the PH like the author of this video. Please. You can go cheap and convert the bit like here, e.g. th-cam.com/video/7-fYLh5uet0/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the video! My SRT's film advance knob seems to have a bit of play even after the shutter is charged. The knob and the silver tab (at 14:01) still can rotate slightly. Would you please let me know if it is normal or how can I fix it?
Hello Issac, It is normal if the play of the advance lever is very little, otherwise it is likely that the nut will need to be tightened a little more.
Thank you, sir. I have a tape in my viewfinder. It has numbers on it, like a scale: 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 15... etc. Where does this come from and where does it go back to? Is it important?
@@photographyandmore I'm wondering if you might be able to remove the screw with some needle nose pliers (with a rubber shield) and that way one can leave the red dot in place? I ask because somehow I'm sure I'd screw up the red dot removal and replacement.
@@dlyon9673 Very good observation!, I have never tried it, but it sounds like it can work, as you say, being careful to cover the tip of the tweezers with some rubber.
just got this camera and a lil scared to take it apart my view finder isn't too dirty but cant find info on if it'll effect my photos or not (VERY new to this lol)
When viewing, the image light passes through the lens and strikes the mirror which reflects the image to the prism which is seen through the viewfinder. When the shutter is fired, the mirror goes up out of the light path and the image light passes through the lens and directly onto the film as the shutter curtains reveal the film. So no, dust in your viewfinder will not affect your image.
I removed the rewind pin and the door closed and then i saw that i wasn’t supose to remove it and i tried the paperclip trick but still can’t open the door of my minolta srt100

An easier way is to use a dab of nail polish
@@Nacreous01Your’s a brilliant idea!👍👍👍😊
Thank you for this very helpful advice!
Thank you for this video, saved myself some money being able to clean my viewfinder myself
Absolutely great!!! By far the best tutorial on the matter on yt! Would you mind, making another one for a CLA of the SRTs shutter mechanism? 😁
Hello Christoph,
Thank you for your comments, soon I will be making the video that you suggest.
@@photographyandmore Thanks mate! 🙌🏼
Thank you for this very helpful video. I was curious about how easy it might be to remove the ground glass entirely?
Great tutorial, my prism is like new.
Thanks you
Hello Christophe,
Is good know that!
Thanks for your comments.
Easy to follow instructions! Thank you!
Hello Jonathan,
Thanks for your comments.
Beautiful! Do you have a video about replacing the light seals or that foam in miscellaneous areas?
Hello Roger,
I still don't have a video on how to replace the light seals.
@@photographyandmore thanks for the reply! If you ever maker one, I'll definitely watch. That 50 year old foam is a challenge.

I think rubbing alcohol is the go to. Replace the foam with foam.

Hello BornAgainMinistry,
With a little patience, it is very likely that you can put your camera back together.
That plate at 3:31 is super tight on mine. And you got it off with screwdrivers?
Great video and 'how to...' Just wondering, would the disassembly of of the SR-7 speed/asa dial be much the same process ? Thanx

Helpful. I have this job coming up on my 201. Are the screws JIS or Phillips?
Hello Jon,
They are Philips, if I remember correctly I used a PH000 screwdriver
.

Can you use any isopropyl alcohol to clean any stubborn dust on the focus plate and the prism?

Hello Taylor,
That scale is the Shutter speed scale with indicator, to show shutter speed set.
I believe that sometimes they can come loose and need to be reattached.
Great tutorial! How do you remove the red dot and which type of glue do you use thanks
Hello J T,
The red dot can be removed with a thick needle and you can stick it with any liquid glue that sticks to metal or plastic.

Is this the same with the srt 101?
Hello Charry,
This video can help you to remove the top cover of the Minolta SRT 101.

My rewind knob plate is solid as rock and I can’t remove it 😢
I can’t seem to get the rewind knob plate off any suggestions?
Hello Aleese,
Unfold the rewind lever and put some WD-40 to try loosen the screw.
Use a screw driver fitted in one of the slots and small hammer to turn the ring counter clockwise.
i set my shutter to 1000 but didn’t set my ASA and not sure i remember what it was set to. does that ruin it?
Only advice is to show the dirty specs in the viewfinder before, and cleaned after
created cosmetic damage: to red dot.
Have to disfigure cosmetics- front alignment red dot- to disassemble camera. Sad 😢😢😢
