    this video is perfect! I inherited this camera from my grandpa who died back in the 80s. we never met but this was his camera and he cherished it! I recently decided to start using it, and this video taught me everything I needed to know to get started. I'm on my 5th roll of film now, and I'm hooked! thank you so much!!

      I had one of these back in the 90s. Took it everywhere I went. Like Richie Valens w his guitar. Took a lot of black & white. Bought lenses, filters, tripods, etc. Showed it some love. Don't remember what happened to it 🤔 😪

    Watched several tutorials on this camera as I'm awaiting delivery of an old srt101, and this was much shorter and informative than the others. Thanks for helping me get started, my first fully mechanical camera, looking forward to learning how to take real pictures instead of a phone, going to watch more of your constant, as I prefer subtitles and seeing how you actually do things hands on, respect and thanks! 👍🏻🙂

    Planning to get a Minolta SRT101 as my first ever SLR. This video so far has been so useful and informative to me. Can I ask what’s the purpose of the mirror? The mirror lock-up and such? And how and why should I operate/mind it? Thank you!

    • @photographyandmore
      @photographyandmore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      HI Ashal,
      The purpose of the mirror allows us to see through the viewfinder the image that enters through the lens.
      When we press the shutter button, the mirror rises and lets the light pass directly onto the film to record the image.
      Mirror lock is only used when taking long exposures.

    I'm a little confused. If the light meter needle is at the top, does it mean that it is underexposed? On my camera, it seems to go down when I point it towards bright objects or light, which is rather confusing. I'm also using 35mm b&w film, if that helps.

      Hi V-G-Z,
      Substitutes for PX-13 or PX-625 of 1.35v can be found on Amazon,
      or if you use a 1.5 v L1560 battery, the light measurement is probably overexposed in 1 or two steps, you would have to do some test roll to determine the degree of overexposure that this battery gives to always have it in mind when taking the photos.

    Hi! I hope you can help me! My boyfriend bought me this camera for Christmas and I’m super happy with it (your video was so useful btw, thankyou!!) but I don’t know which battery I need to buy. The battery that sat in the camera from the previous owner was a 625PX with 1,35V(olt) but on the internet, I can Only find batteries with 1,5V. Does this really matter? Which battery do you use?

    • @photographyandmore
      @photographyandmore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Lina,
      Actually is too hard to find 1.35V batteries now, you can use 1.5v battery but you should consider the following:
      Because it is a slightly higher voltage value, the measurement on the exposure meter will be overexposed, perhaps one or two Exposure values, so you will have to make a compensation when taking the photo, with a little Experience you will know when you reveal the film how many steps it overexposes with that battery.

    • @photographyandmore
      @photographyandmore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lukas,
      The battery is needed by the camera to operate the light meter, so without the battery the needle will not move.

      Hello Mars,
      You can determine a correct exposure of the light using the light meter 5:16 , make sure that the shutter speeds are not less than 1/60 to avoid blurring the photo.

      Hello Mohamed,
      Fortunately, this camera can shutter without a battery, if you use it without a battery the only thing you will not be able to use is the exposure meter, but this can be solved by using a handheld exposure meter to read the exposure.

    stupid question but i recently inherited this camera from grandpa but i think mine is broken because the shutter don’t work … i don’t know if it requires film for the shutter to actually work but the lever to wind the film doesn’t go all the way u need to press the shutter button for it to work and even then the button clicks but nothing happens. any idea why this is ? could it be that i don’t have any film in it? i still need to buy some for it but i’m trying to figure out if it’s broken or not so i buy film for it.

    • @photographyandmore
      @photographyandmore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sari,
      It is not necessary for the camera to have film or a battery to shutter.
      It's a camera problem that maybe a good technician can fix.

      Hello Roger,
      All lenses that have a mount known as MC or MD are compatible.
      The lens mount, contrary to common belief, is actually called the “SR” mount, not the “MC” or “MD” mount. The terms MC and MD relate to different series' of Minolta lenses, with different features. All of the lenses, however, use the SR mount.

      You would use 35mm Film.There’s many options on the market and you can usually find good bundle deals. Remember that unlike a digital camera, you choose your ISO with the film you buy and it can’t be adjusted like a digital camera . So essentially certain films work better with certain surroundings .
