I got a 72 gto with a blown muncie in it. When you started rattling off your expenses for the swap my eyes started rolling in back in my head. Thank you for making this realistic for all of us as I almost made a big mistake. You saved me a divorce.

@@danhoyland142 muncies are cheap and easy to rebuild. But a tkx swap doesnt require any major surgery and is several thousand dollars cheaper. I got quotes for the t56 and tkx swap from tremec and the cost is quite a bit cheaper.

Most people like to deny the truth about the real costs, even to themselves. Obviously the installation could be done for far less than $10k, depending on what you already have and what parts may not be required.

Thank you for listing everything that it took to get this job done.
I have a '70 Nova SS with a 4 speed borg Warner. I was debating on either a built Muncie with a gear vendor's overdrive unit, or the T56 Magnum.
I don't race but I like my car to be fast from light to light. I would also like to lower engine RPM while on the highway.
After your video I'm thinking the Muncie and gear vendor's may be the way to go.

Interesting video man..... I'm on the home stretch of installing a T-56 in my 74 Roadrunner and i wish i only had what you have into yours..... I had a TKO 600 in it before and i couldn't make it last. With over 700hp, shift points at 7200 rpm, and a car they weights over 4000lbs, the TKO 600 couldn't handle it..... I got my T-56 from Silver Sport and also had the "Extreme Performance" upgrade done to it. They say it's good for 9000rpm shifts and over 900 ft/lbs..... Guess we'll see.....I live in ND so i too am a prisoner of winter!!!! Good luck and thanks again!

@@SS454LS6 I'll put together something once it's finished... Just a quick recap.... Other than the obvious tunnel mods, i had to delete the bolt in torsion bar crossmember then modify and reinforce the chassis so the torsion bars could be mounted direct and remove the center section of the transmission crossmember which is a structural part of the chassis, so that too required extra reinforcements welded in. It's by the time it's finished it'll have taken 10 months to complete.

Hi, @SS454LS6. Thank you SOOO much for this video. There was a reason why I waited. I was going to purchase the T56 kit about 8 months ago.. My 69 Chevelle is having body work done as we speak so, I'll wait until that's done.. I was a bit hesitant to purchase the hydraulic kit.. from what you said and from what others said. I'll stick to manual linkage and I will use the factory crossmember as well. I'll just fabricate as necessary. Thank you VERY much again for this video. Great work btw. I recently got an install kit from American Powertrain for my duster and to be honest I wish I would have just sourced all the parts myself. Their customer service is trash, they sold me parts I didn’t need and wouldn’t take back, and the “bolt in” cross member wasn’t even close to fitting. The transmission is cool though
