You have the most impressive paint jobs due to this style. There are better quality jobs where someone takes a month to hit every detail, but the amount of miniatures you churn through - and they still look great! Very impressive, and the sort of thing I'd like to emulate for my back log of board game miniatures. Thanks for continuing to share your process.

Glad I could be of help Kiristo. Of course we can all decide to spend ages on a special mini now and again, but I do like to get through the huge piles of minis a bit faster. :)

I'm going to use this video as a guide to painting my Deep Madness monster minis. Should get the game this August. Great video! 👍

Thanks for this video! I'm trying to get a lot of painting done in quarantine, and these speed-painting methods help me a lot. Hopefully when we're on the other side of this, my favorite underplayed games like The Others: 7 Sins will find their way to the table much easier.

Not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you are bored like me atm you can watch all of the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my gf for the last couple of weeks =)

What sort of problems do you get if it's one that it turns out did need cleaning? Can you tell pretty much immediately after priming or is something that only becomes obvious later (for example, does the paint rub off easily?) I don't think I've spotted many problems with ones I didn't clean, but could just have been lucky.

With some old Flying Frog ones I have, they got sticky, which seems to be a common result of this kind of thing - even after bring varnished, which is weird. Lucky it hasn't happened since and I think it's pretty rare these days; I'm certainly not really bothering to wash plastic minis anymore. You should always wash resin minis though.

These look exceptionally good. Any chance you could tell us what paints you used for these? Especially the green. It's spot on!

Sorry, this was a while ago now; I list paint names now but didn't back when I originally filmed this. Just mix a few paints on your palette until it looks right! :)

@@EsotericOrderGamers Ok. Do you recommend any particular brand or type of paints? For beginners

I use Citadel paints. Some people prefer Vallejo. I haven't experimented much with brands, just stuck to what I know!

Awesome work, figures look great and to get it game ready in one evening is fantastic. I always find the washing/cleaning stage fascinating. Somebody in the casting industry told me that metal figures are rarely used with release agent and a lot of plastic figures to don’t require cleaning. Resin is your main culprit and with often have residue oo-er!
Some people have even said to me that you also have to clean in gloves as human finger grease also effects the painting/priming process! I even know people who use etch primers and all sorts of things!
Personally all that seems like a lot of effort! I get rid of flash and then undercoat that with a decent undercoat and I’m happy with that! How often do we manhandle our figures anyway? All comes down to output to. I know people who hysterically fuss and spend weeks and weeks on stuff but these people also never get to game anything!
Each to there own. I enjoy painting but I love rolling dice and creating a story in a game!
    Cheers!

I'm beginning to suspect that you're right, and only resin figures need the washing step. I may give it a miss from now on and hope there are no disasters!

This is very close to the methodology I use; currently I am painting through Cthulhu: Death May Die this way. I like to think of it as an impressionistic approach to miniature painting.

We can always spend time and lavish care on 'hero' figures, but for lots of boardgame figs, it's good to get 'em done!

I only wash resin miniatures. I have never washed metal or plastic Miniatures. I prime them as soon as I get the game and start painting. I have never had any issues up to date.

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree, though, for example, Flying Frog plastic miniatures used to have a big problem with residue that caused problems (though that may have improved).

@@EsotericOrderGamers I have never painted a miniature from that company so I can't say. But it seems that not many board game miniatures have that problem.

@@EsotericOrderGamers that is true. Sometimes even the priming is bad. That happened to me with the Conan miniatures from monolith. I didn't washed them and straight primed them. All of them became sticky. I had to stripped away the paint, wash them and prime again. The second time worked out fine.
Oddly enough, I didn't washed the miniatures of claustrophobia. I directly primed them and had no issues. Maybe the plastic material that monolith uses now is of better quality?

Yep, it's probably dodgy moulding processes.

i never wash my min i's and i have never had any problem with them. Maybe i was just lucky. Flashlines i couldn't bother with them. White or black primer and some foamcore and tac you can prime alot of mini's in one go.
