    Hi again, there is something that I want to ask, should I do early admission or regular admission? Does early admission have a higher chance to get in? And about the extracurriculars, do I need to provide proof that I have done that in my essay?

    • @justinlin8786
      @justinlin8786  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For Waterloo Engineering, everyone who completes their application is eligible for early admission. I would highly recommend going for early admission for UofT, I would say it increases your chances as you get considered for more rounds.
      For ECs, I don't know if schools necessarily check every single one unless they are easy to verify or very high profile. Regardless, I wouldn't lie on your application, since it's not the achievements that matter, but what YOU learned from them. Good luck!

    • @justinlin8786
      @justinlin8786  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're not worried about the cost, it could help to apply to more schools. You don't know which programs you will get into or be turned away from, so having more opportunities at the end of the day is a good thing. You don't wanna be in a situation where you discover a cool program at school other than UW and UofT after the OUAC deadline! Chances are, other schools offer similar programs to what you're interested in, so make sure to give other institutions a chance :)

    • @wavez4224

    I have a question, Does university only look at grade 11, because if you submit the application in the start of grade 12, how can they look at the whole semester?

    • @justinlin8786
      @justinlin8786  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Grade 11 marks are only considered if you haven't finished the Grade 12 equivalent course yet. For example, if your Grade 12 English course is in your second semester, a university may look at your Grade 11 English mark. This actually really only happens for early admissions: for most regular round decisions in May, the universities will have your second semester midterm marks from Grade 12 and will not even factor in any Grade 11 courses.
      For my Waterloo Engineering admission in March, I had finished most of my required courses in Grade 12, but they did look at my Grade 11 Chemistry mark since they had no data from second semester yet. This is a special case though, since this was an early round. For the majority of decisions made in May, Grade 11 marks don't matter much at all

    • @logical6317
      @logical6317 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justinlin8786 Thank you so much for writing such a detailed explanation. By the way, can I get into universities? (my average is about 85% or something like that), I saw most of everyone's average on youtube are like >95% with a lot of ECs. Im in grade 10 right now btw

    • @justinlin8786
      @justinlin8786  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@logical6317 It depends what universities you're applying for! You can definitely get into various programs around Ontario with those marks, which will probably go up by the time you get to Grade 12. However If you're applying to more competitive programs like CS / Engineering at UofT or Waterloo, I would say try to increase the avg to around 95%. As difficult as that might sound right now, it's not impossible: you get a lot better at school as you get older!
      Also don't forget that it's not all about average: have fun extracurriculars that you love and can write passionately about. Good luck!

    • @justinlin8786
      @justinlin8786  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think I landed on Waterloo because I imagined a lot of situations where I could go wrong at UofT lol. If I chose EngSci, the plan would be to try to go to a great graduate program in CS/Engineering, which requires a great GPA. UofT EngSci is crazy tough academically though, so what would happen if I do terribly on a couple exams during my undergrad? The whole point of me being there could crumble and I would have a lot of regrets. I figured at Waterloo, Software Engineering is the perfect fit for my interests, has a great career outlook, and doesn't necessarily shut off a path to grad school. It was the best overall option for me IMO.
      Sometimes I do wonder if I should have picked UofT. I guess I will have a better idea in a few years!

    I am a Grade 8 going into Grade 9 at Westmount Secondary School, could you give out tips or advice for surviving high school?

    • @justinlin8786
      @justinlin8786  ปีที่แล้ว

      Westmount is one of the best schools to go to as long as you can manage your time. Your teachers publish all course material on Day 1, so you can work through it at your own pace. My recommendation is to make good work habits in Grade 9 and don't get comfortable with falling behind. Grade 9 is pretty chill so just enjoy yourself and get used to how high school works.
      But it's not all about work! Meet good friends and join lots of clubs and sports that you are interested in. Grade 9 is the year you'll have the most time so try to get involved at school. DECA is an amazing club (I'm biased) you should totally join it in September :)

    • @justinlin8786
      @justinlin8786  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Getting an award at OFSAA is a huge achievement! If the sport you've participated in has been a huge part of your life/high school experience, that's a great talking point for an application. EC's don't have to be directly related to the major you're interested in.
      However, your activities should show that you can take on a fair bit of responsibility outside of school and that you're involved in your community. It's never too late to find a new volunteer position or join some clubs at school! Everything helps
