    Always helps to pay attention to the numbers. I'm working on my first playthrough of the game and I swear I have destroyed just as much as I have built. You build it... your proud of the accomplishments.. then you realize just how jank it is... well.. take it all down and start again! 😅 I try to use water buffers over using pumps. I haven't put it to the test with water.. but it works good for other fluids

    • @spectrumdad_
      @spectrumdad_  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yea this is a numbers game. Once you figure that out you usually do good. Buffers would help especially when you run out of power to get it started again. :)

    • @10Kxxxxxx
      @10Kxxxxxx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@spectrumdad_ based off the tests that I've done.. the buffers will push water up hill. It's just the fluid in the buffer must be able to raise higher then the level your pushing the fluid. And a valve and the end of the pipe to ensure fluid doesn't push back down jaming up my machines. been using this method to hide my pipes under my builds. Now.. I'm obviously no pro and there could definitely be something else going on that's making this work for me.

      The proper fix is to follow the step where he said to let the pipes fill up before starting the generators
      If the pipes aren't totally full the fluid sloshes around, which can lead to dry patches and starve the generators...
      If you let the pipe fully full first sloshing isn't possible.
      Full pipes are happy pipes!
      Also some Biggs around trying to push the extract max through a pipe can result in a similar issue, it's best not to use a pipe more than 90-95%% of its rated capacity unless it's a very simple pipe network with only 1 main fluid source

    WAIT YOU CAN COMBINE THE ENERGY FROM ALL THE COAL GENERATORS INTO ONE POWER LINE??!!! My life is now changed forever.
    Also, to those saying “I don’t have enough coal. I just can’t fill the generators fast enough.” If it’s within your patience, go find 2 other coal nodes. Split the coal manifold into 3 sections (1 section of conveyers going into 2 generators, then 2 sections of conveyers going into 3 generators each) this will supply you with enough coal to prevent the generators from ever running out of coal.
    Similarly, are you struggling to get ores through the manifolds of any of his other tutorials? Simply split the manifold into 2 parts, 1 miner per part.
    Hope this helped!

    how are you powering the water pumps

  • @justarandomdinosaur
    @justarandomdinosaur ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Anyone who might need this like I did.
    Pipes (mk1) have a 300m^3 of water flow, and a coal generator takes 45m^3 of flow. This means that you can only support like 6 generators for optimal power efficiency.
    I've rebuilt my power supply twice, when all I needed to do was fix my piping lol.

    • @ronjohnson2760
      @ronjohnson2760 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly what I needed, and saved me a search on the wiki, thanks. I thought that 8 generators was a little much for Mk 1 pipes, even if you can use 3 water extractors to supply water for 8 coal generators, the pipes themselves max out at 60m^3 less than that.

    • @frostbourne5770
      @frostbourne5770 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ronjohnson2760 Hence why you need the 3rd pipe if going for 8 generators with 3 pumps. That extra pipe carries the remaining 60m^3 that you need

    • @spectrumdad_
      @spectrumdad_  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason this works is how water flowing works in pipes. Everytime water hits a junction, it splits evenly across the pipes. So because the water extractors are inserting at different places in the main pipe, and there are machines taking the water in between, it works for all 8 with the 3 extractors because there is not 1 pipe in there that NEEDS to go over 300 due to the proper water displacement mechanic. I'll have to do a video on this.

    • @AdmiralStoicRum
      @AdmiralStoicRum ปีที่แล้ว

      Good reason to have switches between workzones when running a central power grid, cut off certain areas to jump start in phases, like if you accidentally overfill your nuclear waste production and all the reactors shut down, then you can at least isolate the reactors so you can restart them easily, granted, youll have to shut down consumption on the rest of the grid, which I suppose it wouldnt hurt to actually create a central hub for power control and distribution. Putting a battery bank to assist.

    • @spectrumdad_

      So it might take a while to settle but it’s also normal to have your extractors show almost no water because they are pushing water at an 100% efficiency flow. Are you coal generators fully running? Ultimately that’s what matters. Or are they turning on and off?

    • @spectrumdad_
      @spectrumdad_  ปีที่แล้ว

      15x8 is 120. It’ll look like it’s not getting enough but it does. What you want to make sure you do first however, Is turn off all the coal generators (or at least the last 4) and let everything fill. It helps to manually fill the coal generators with coal too but once everything is saturated you’ll notice that it runs smooth, receiving one coal as it uses one.

    You have no idea how strangely difficult it’s been to find someone who tells you exactly how much coal per minute the coal generator takes. I built this three mines three generators complex over several hours (pipes are a nightmare) only to find that 15/m is the number meaning 1 pure vein is enough for 8 generators. i'm not sure if i'm just plain stupid, but how do you get the energy from the coal generator to all my other machines? Because you can only add one power cable to the generator, but that cable gives power from the biomass burner, so where does my power go created by the coal generator?

    • @spectrumdad_
      @spectrumdad_  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You connect a cable from the generator to a pole, and from that pole you can connect to many other poles/machines to make a power network.

    I do got a question,
    I did everything how you did it. 1 miner MK1 on a pure coal node. I let everything fill. However the issue is that some coal burners dont get enough coal. I coppied everything you did.
    Do you know what the issue is by any chance?
    I did not overclock anything.

    • @spectrumdad_
      @spectrumdad_  ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure it’s a mk2 belt between the miner and all the splitters ( doesn’t have to be all of them but it’s easier to check that way) but I would also turn off all the coal generators and let the lines fill up. Also it helps to try to fill up 100 coal manually in the generators to get it to saturate manually, but it will eventually do that anyways (except the last 2, those will never reach max)

    • @Vlambulance

    Didn’t think to just do a simple line splitting it up along the way… I tried to evenly divide up the production of the miners with splitters beforehand to have a steady line of 15 for each power plant… I’m fairly certain there is footage of apes doing problem solving where they look less dumb then me trying to figure out that formula… I wish I had a camera on me then for comparison.

    The first two or three of my generators are working but the last got almost no coal. The splitters divide all the coal by half for every generator it goes through so I don't see how that would give all of them enough? I might of course be missing something so I would really appreciate an answer. Thanks.

    • @spectrumdad_
      @spectrumdad_  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes at first it’ll be like that until the first one fills up, then it’ll overflow down the line and it won’t be a 50/50 split anymore. As each machine fills up it goes further and further down the line. This is how a manifold works in the game. It just takes time to fully get there. You can help it move along by manually filling up all the generators with coal or turning them off until they fill the lines and machines, then turn them on 1 at a time.

    • @AnarexicSumo

      You’re using the miner on a Normal coal source. To get 120/min from it with a Mk 1 it needs to be a pure source. If you can’t feed from an additional source I would speedrun to mk2 miner. Small chance you’re getting confused by the description. It says it extracts 60/min off a Normal source. For pure that is doubled to 120.
