It’s pretty crazy how big that cast is
Years of experience have you ever burnt your self bad?
Hey what species was that ant colony? Hopefully invasive.
Then go buy some boots now
How much do you charge? Its beautiful
I like you showing how much can be done with minimal/inexpensive equipment but being barefoot seems like it's asking for trouble
Man, you've got more courage than I, being around molten aluminum with no shoes
I go barefoot all the time and it was making me nervous too. But it'd probably melt through shoes anyway
that ain't bravery.
My only request, is that if he does get some on his feet, to post it happening. If you got the guts to do it, have the guts to post it for all of us to see LOL.
@@jtelliso I'm sure he would. Imagine how many views that would get
All he has to do is step on a bit of hot metal he might actually think about how stupid he's being.
Dude I’m sure you know what you’re doing but I’m freaking out over your bare feet so close to all that molten aluminum. 😂
And the post hole diggers.
well he knows its hot so he wont step in it. Like a dog turd in the yard, you know its there so you dont step on it but this is like 1000 times worse !! LOL
@@warrenmichael918 So.... you've never stepped in dog shit?
There is a good reason blacksmiths don't like to wear gloves when dealing with hot metals.
@@OctaApe I have, but not when im walking where i KNOW dog shit is, im careful.
@@warrenmichael918 Well despite being careful and knowing of it. when i'm doing something, shit happens. I personally cant say i've avoided it every time in my entire life.
You could stick a few bolts head first into the puddle after pouring. Then you'd have some studs firmly attached for mounting it without having to drill or anything. I think it would look cool mounted on a nicely finished hardwood base.
Great idea
Local Florida guy here.
I like your approach man. You explain things really well too... as somebody who has always wanted to create 1 of these your video was basically instructional. SAVED to Favs.
The screw gives it character! Glad you left it in.
😄I'm wearing boots though!!!
Very glad to hear! this is one of my first times trying to use my voice so it should get better and more clear. Thanks!! I wear shoes Every now and then but barefoot is just preferred for me.
*"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."*
Having worked in a foundry I can't believe you are doing this in bare feet!
Working with molten metal barefooted makes a lot of sense. 🙂
Amazing how deep some ant hills are. But it definitely makes for really cool art ☺️
Fascinating casting, shows the ant tunnels in great detail. Don’t suppose the ants briskly got out of there when the trouble started.
Maybe use resin molding as an after effect to not only support the imbalance, but colors with light would make it worth more money and make it aesthetically pleasing
Bro really said: "peace was never an option."
“Bro”
🤦🏻♂️
I didn't even see the spider at 1:28 at first, but my heart sank for a moment when you zoomed in on it and I finally noticed it.
And I'm not even scared of spiders...
You’re the best!!! no shoes in the dark handling hot metal!!!
In terms of removal and the finished look, do you prefer the long/tall ones like this, or the shorter, multi-branched nests?
Much shorter more compact is preferred, Usually they are much more durable. when it’s thin and long like this it’s much easier to break when digging out of the ground and even when stored.
You're a brave man to be working with molten metal with bare feet. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
9:45 ... in the dark.... barefoot... with molten metal and assorted tools. A mans man.
Flroida man is undefeatable
You're a brave barefoot warrior around that bright red crucible and pouring that too, if you hit moisture and it blowback or steams up, you're in for a world of hurt!!
Very neat. It is so fantastic to create something like that!
The Ants did most of the creating.
Would it be easier to clean and dig it up if you use a pressure washer?
Ants: why are we here? *j u s t t o s u f f e r ?*
Man's got balls of tungsten to stand close to molten aluminium while he's Barefoot and practically 25% naked
Been melting and casting aluminum, brass and copper recently and now have some inspiration. We've got much larger red ants all over the place here in Texas. I know what my worn out 24" aluminum pipe wrench will be used for now!
Perfect!
I’ve been casting ant hills for 3 yrs, safety equipment is a must.
Welding leathers or at lease heavy denim apron and boots
After I pored a bunch of hills one got me. It had a damp spot down about a foot, when that aluminum hit it it started to build pressure and blow that puddle at the top all over the place. I had a face shield on, heavy gloves genes and boots and a t shirt.
I got second degree burns on my chest and one on my wrest where some went down the opening on my glove.
I had no warning.
BTW that casting wasn’t fire ants, some type of red ant with only one opening at the top
Really living up to the florida man name by doing this without shoes. lol
If you took something like a round cake pan and set this in it and poured around it, would that stabilize it better in the case like this, just not a wide enough base?
That ant came home to see destruction 😂
Giant spiders, molten aluminum, bare feet. What could possibly go wrong?
one tip I've heard is to heat the aluminum well beyond its melting point, it allows the metal to flow farther and penetrate deeper
It changes it’s Viscosity/surface tension to flow better.
This was the entire colony nothing was uncasted here
@@FloridaFoxAnthillArt I'm in central Florida, citrus county. I'd like to do this but I have yet to create a torch that works well enough
@@thomasrudd5144 torch is the easiest thing to make/buy furnace creations gets real expensive especially if bought
What you should do, is find a fire ant hill, and dump out a pound bag of sugar next to it, and leave it for a month or two and let the hill get super huge - then do the aluminum casting 😊 i bet it would be huge!
Can't believe you are doing this barefoot. I don't even fry bacon barefoot. Hahaha
Even if I Lose a toe I think I’ll still be barefoot!
Looks awesome. Where do you think the queens chamber was?
I normally hate vids like theseBut since you are doing it on a very invasive species of ant I won't really hate it. pretty cool piece of art you have btw
Using insecticides is a slower death for them I would think.
I don't feel sorry for those damn ants cause I know that if they could fill one of our skyscrapers with molten aluminum they would 😡
1:30 I'm pressing charges for putting me through this experience
Stupid question, what size container do you melt it in. That looks like a lot of aluminum
Awesome. Fantastic presentation. Be careful!
Beautiful!😊🐜
"No spiders were harmed in the making of this video."
The ants was like "RUUUUUUN!"
1:21 lovely male huntsman spider you got there!
So that’s what it was, Thank you!
Pretty harmless aren't they?
@@GlennTillema yep! they're pretty nice as pest control.
*Ants:* So, metal floods are caused by Humans, huh!?
*Grabs ANTK-47*
The spider and the roach were buddies 😂
Made a little campfire in that bucket too :D
That one ant was like, "Well there goes my house."
Was that a wondering spider at the start of the vid?
Get a corner cabinet. Use a couple wood, could be natural, dowels or "branches", and create a cradle to hang it from. That's the way it's meant to be. Lite it with LED's. I'm thinking blue. But they make them that change to 5 different colors. OK, it's sold. Next one.
great cast, the species of ant is pheidole obscurithorax, a very common invasive big-headed ant species in north and central florida.
Good to know! Thanks a lot!!
Can you use pewter or tin?
"... *spider zooms* UAAUAUAGHHH"
That's amazing. I get these cicada bee killer that dig into the ground. I would love to see how far they go down.
“And if you look over here class we have a disciple of Darwin in his natural habitat, plotting his next devious attack on the colonies of nature!”
Disclaimer: no ants were harmed in the making of this film
You hear the Terminator music playing and you see one ant walkout 😎
I could be a molten aluminum casting ninja, but I'll still wear shoe!
The first few hills I’ve done this too was so deep I had to dig about 6 feet down and I still broke it. Wish I would’ve thought of the water excavation method. Cheers.
6ft!!! Any idea what species
The anthill guy with no shoes lol
Spooder warning.
Jeeeeeeesus Christ did I jump.
Dude gives zero F's for his feet
7:26 dude…
protection protection protection
😂😂😂
Bare footed, BARE FOOTED!😵💫
Cool stuff man!!!
Awesome job man
Do you have to be barefoot when you melt aluminium and pour it into an anthill?
What would happen if you pour hot acrylic/ epoxy down there? Then sand off the dirt on the outside. Not sure if possible but could be cool.
love your videos; I can tell your from Florida because you're doing this bare foot.
Molten aluminum is one hazard that never made it into the old SimAnt game from the 90s!
What pressure does your regulator supply?
No idea. I go by feel/sound
How do you get rid of the ants?
Nice piece but dude you only get two feet with full skin....
Leidenfrost Affect
@@FloridaFoxAnthillArt nope, you need higher temps for Leidenfrost to kick in, molten Al will stick and burn. You know those nests will spit if the ground is a bit too damp, right?
@@tobhomott Even with a freshly cast ingot that isn’t molten anymore the Leidenfrost fact is still very evident if you have ever tried to cool a ingot a minute or 2 after the poor.
im glad you left the screw in there lol i feel like its part of the piece and i mean come on how often do you just happen to get a buried screw in there? but i worry a bit about maybe starting fires with your crucible im sure you have everything under control but they do make nice fire bricks that you can keep around to set it on instead of the leaves on the ground lol
Some areAs Will burn like crazy. It’s a good idea to wet dry areas first but sand is also a good option. Usually I don’t care and do it as I go. Unless super dry
You’d be surprised especially in dirty yards or next to fire pits.
I sign the death warrant of a world.
The Emperor protects.
You gotta leave the screws/stuff you find! That's cool to know it just happened to be there.
Where does the air go?
Not exactly sure on a Colony with one entrance like this. The weight/pressure of the Aluminum Potentially Pushes it through the soil itself.
蟻にとっては地獄だったろうに
The exinction progress of ants :50 percent
Some ants like elbow-room, and build their nests in a sprawl. These guys went deeper than one of Tim Faust's solos!
That one came out awesome
You are definitely from Florida. Smelting aluminum barefoot
It would be interesting to pour a cylinder of clear resin around the pour. It would be expensive for the resin, but would stabilize and allow a larger base to be mounted.
Guess you could go through That effort or you can Tap the bottom and screw too a wooden base
Yes. My concern with just a wooden base is it would still be a very fragile sculpture. The aluminum cast material is still very porous with low structural integrity. I was impressed that you got it out in one piece.
How long will a canister of propane last ?
Someone give this man a work boot sponsor! Cool video though
That spider sure looked like a brown recluse.
You should pour one with solid silver or gold. That would be epic.
nice cast though. nice wood base with a post next to it would look cool
This man makes muffins out of molten aluminum and doesn’t wear fucking shoes… awesome
Wow. That thing is seriously deep.
Are they native?
No
As a fellow anthill caster let me just say I know it's hot and sweaty but put some dammed boots on!!!!
bold move playing with 1300 degree molten metal barefoot.
That's wild!
nice video as always.
If you ever want to come up to Alabama I have some hills two to three feet wide and at least two feet tall.
This one is very cool. I would put some led lights on that thing.
No shoes?!
Cool vid but coming from a guy that has poored molten lead a lot in his working career, it's not a matter of if but when you get that on your foot. I'd highly suggest some leather shoes or boots when you do that. Usually happens wben it splatters from mositure. Just a friendly suggestion. Also eye pro. Had a friend loose his from it.
Those are some tasty looking cupcakes you’ve got there!
No shoes or gloves is peak Florida man
No gloves? Wdym
What would happen if you poured molten glass into an anthill?
Not much. Molten silica loses heat very quickly and does not really get to liquid consistency.
my 1st question: what's the name of the tool you're using to excavate?
2nd would be... why did you do that? A straight, short and honest answer would be appreciated. Cheers!
These ants are an invasive species
