  • The 50th annual conference for Little People of New Zealand (LPNZ) is fast approaching, and 27-year-old Loren is flat-out with preparations. She’s looking forward to greeting friends from around the country both old and new, and she’s also excited to honour the history of LPNZ. Meanwhile, 15-month-old Parker and his family are getting ready to travel all the way from Invercargill for their first-ever conference.

"If you raise a kid to be kind, they'll get further in life than a kid who is tall." Never truer words were spoken.

Yes, I know it’s a saying, and a good one at that!! BUT, if a kid is too short: too tall: too large, too skinny, has crooked teeth etc, they will get bullied………. The bullies do it because; they are obviously very unhappy within themselves, and lashing out at others seems to make them feel better. A sick way of thinking.

Thank you for sharing. I have 2 beautiful nieces, living in Scotland, whom are little people. Miss 6 has Achond, but it looks very much like her new little sister, Miss 3 weeks, who is still in NICU, may have Primordial. She will have to have genetic testing done, to see if she does have MOPD and what type. But birthweight of 1lb 9oz and length of 11.3 inches at term, with serial scanning showing consistently smaller size, is pointing to MOPD.

Wow that was a great video to watch, I love that this organisation has been going for 50 years! That’s amazing I think, and the ladies who are doing the running of it now should definitely be proud of what they’ve accomplished because they’ve bought so many people together, parents who have children with dwarfism, adults with dwarfism and children too, I can’t believe they have to rely on donations I think they should get more help because the service they provide to there community is invaluable to the people they provide it to, like the young couple said in this video they met another little boy who’s had an operation that their son needs and it’s helped them to know what to expect and everything else, that sort of thing to a parent is so important, I just think it’s great, and like it was said also by the young couple, u can see why it’s been going so long, it was well organised, everyone was friendly and inviting, and it felt like being with family, u can’t get a better compliment than that! I too hope they go many many more years, and anyone out there who doesn’t have dwarfism, when u are out and about and u see someone who’s got dwarfism or any other disability, PLEASE DON’T STARE, I’m disabled, I don’t have dwarfism but every time I go out in my wheelchair people look at me as of to say “I wonder why she’s in a wheelchair” I hate it because I’d rather the person cane up to me and asked me why I’m in a wheelchair, I hate being stared at because it makes me uncomfortable, then sometimes il struggle and use my walking stick and then I suffer for it later on, but I shouldn’t do that, I should just think oh well what ever, but I think I spend too much time worrying about what others r thinking, it’s sad that some people stare or some people r shallow and say nasty things, I’ve never been like that even before I became disabled, before I was disabled I was a carer for people with learning disabilities, I absolutely loved my job, but now I need people to take care of me, luckily my carers are my husband, who’s not only my best friend and my rock, but also he’s mine, and my other carer is my sister in law, she’s amazing, she comes in 5 days a week and helps take care of me, my husband does all the rest of the time but when my sister in law is here it’s just so he can get some rest bite, go to the gym or even just go for a walk alone, because he does a lot for me and our kids too, ANYWAY I wish all these lovely people all the best, they are absolutely amazing!! God bless them all xxxx Kate 🇬🇧 xxxx

On another note...why dont they get in touch with the LPA and get some tips for their organization?

because we can live long for-filling lives, only held back by other peoples ableist expectations that we can't live like everyone else, work professional, be independent, buy our own place, drive, get married, have kids and so on. Oh suddenly it's "weird" "abnormal" and "wrong" just because one with dwarfism does as everyone else! Why is everyone hung up on crap! Should not be a big deal at all any more than any "normal" person doing so. Too many misconceptions still out there.
