When I watch this footage I see normal young adults. They are shorter than what we see as average, but that shouldn't be the main focus. Their determination to overcome any obstacle and their positive outlook on life is something a lot of other people have difficulty with - no matter what their height. This mindset is the main reason why they will bring it far in this world. What an insightful documentary this is. Much blessings to you all for a bright and happy future 💙
We all have problems in some way with our height. As you get older you shrink the opposite way. My mother now looks up to me. lol. I am only 5' 1". Trying to find petite pants, forget it. When I am in a store and what I want is on the top shelf where I cannot reach. I happen to see the next tallest person, man or woman and ask them if they could get it for me. After they do, I ask if there is anything on the bottom shelf they need. In today's generation I see the teens are getting taller and taller. I once had a lawyer that had to bend his head to get out my front door. He was 7' tall. So see it hits everyone differently. We just have to remember, we are all people. God's children.

They're not normal young adults though, no matter how gushing you want to be.
They are in fact abnormal and that's why it's a medical condition.

As a person with Dwarfism, it really helps learning to be confident, not caring what others think or say, and to focus on set goals for yourself. It’s too easy to be caught up with negativity that distracts us from our own lives and our own dreams for the future. I love spreading awareness, but I feel that it just labels us as helpless, defenseless and weak to the rest of the world instead of showing our fullest potential.
My sister and I both have Dwarfism, college educated, full-time jobs, and we focus on our passions. My sister is a home-owner with her fiancé. I have an incredible girlfriend in Brazil that I plan on meeting soon. I’m a licensed amateur radio operator and a licensed commercial small UAV drone pilot.
Yes, we live in a world not built for us, but so is for many other people. I’m just tired of this we are the victims of society pitch instead of saying, “Hi, I’m Fred/Jane. This is my life. I’m not helpless.”
I don't look at it that way at all, I don't see victims when I see someone who doesn't look like me, I simply see another human being. Also, spreading awareness is awesome, people genuinely need to be educated, it can help us respect one another more so. Another thing, good luck with the meeting of your gf!
Awareness labels you as helpless, defenseless and weak? This video just made me think that little people are just like me, only different challenges than the health challenges I have.
Maybe others see it as a label, but it just made me think you're just like all of us. It made me understand what challenges you might have and I respect your challenges.
Love your attitude, we all have ways that this world does not "work" for us to varying degrees and the victim mentally just doesn't fix anything and only makes lifes challenges seem impossible to overcome.
All parents wish they could fix the workd for their kids, but endurance builds character, which builds hope.
So, how do you feel about the new medication being trialed that could potentially cure achondroplasia? A daily injection started in infancy and ended when a person has reached their potential height- around the age of 20?
@@jenmorricone4014 In a way, yes when all they do is focus on our struggles and Dwarfism. My method of spreading awareness is focus more on the person than the disability that we can achieve full potential in our lives. Maybe it would help parents who are expecting kids with Dwarfism to know they can live a normal life instead of worrying about being bullied and suffering from limitations.
Does it though? You don’t understand what we go through. You don’t live with Dwarfism. You’ve seen a glimpse of what it is like, but you don’t understand it until you have lived it. Respecting my challenges is idiotic… you haven’t met me to know what my challenges are in life. We all should respect each other and our differences to accept them as who they are as a person, not for their challenges… because you’re focusing more on what the person can’t do than what they can do… that’s the problem with this awareness that focuses on victimizing people with Dwarfism rather than empowering them.

My sister was diagnosed with this, she is in her 60's now, she was told can never have a child, well she went and had two, she was told cannot do this and that, and she always said, if I die, I want to live, not die before I leave. She did everything and lived, and I AM proud of her huge fight. She was made fun of as a child and her character and attitude never allowed a small human destroy her. There is nothing wrong with being here in the world as mother nature brought us, we beautyfy this world!

I had a g/f in public school years, who was same,.and she had two kids,.who were normal height and all..and now in her sixty's still she's normal as ever..think she had more spry then I most times..
Jack is very good -looking and his attitude about life is so fantastic--he'll go far in life! Well, I should say that all of the people featured in Only Human are strong people who'll get far in life doing what they love. The only difference between them and "us" is that they are considered 'little people' when compared to the "norm". It boils down to what they believe about themselves, I guess!

Jack is better looking than most normal sized or large people, and his personality is awesome. Don’t let ppl get in your head by saying you look good for a little person you actually look really good for a person in general. 😊 actually when I watch this I really see 3 very attractive people who are the same as anyone and they are shorter than average people just like some people are super tall taller than average people and average is a range that the masses fit into, judging people is such a waste I would love to be friends with all 3 of these people and I would not see anything different than they are nice strong and nice looking young people ❤❤
I'm taller than average height but for those with this condition I wish you all very well in your future. The world is way more accepting of disabilities now days but for those of you who think dwafisim is funny or amuzing, I say "WALK A MILE IN THEIR SHOES " then see how funny you feel. Jack should try and get an agent or agency where he can try out for Hollywood movies or shows, he's naturally very good at performing! And he enjoys it so much.. Can be as successful as Peter dinklage I would think..👍🏻

@@furonwarrior well my heart broke when Jess was talking about how she wants to be hidden etc, yet she's this amazing strong young woman.. Our society still has so much growing to do when it comes to respecting and valuing ppl who are different, but just as amazing as u are
I am 5 feet tall and middle aged and STILL get pats on the head and called "honey". I can't reach the top shelf in supermarkets or even in my own kitchen. Not saying it's the same as dwarfism, but this world is made for taller people without a doubt.
People are just disrespectful sometimes and we're never taught how to respect others and are uneducated I am also short.

I am from a tiny town in the U.S. (population of 2600). As a child, back in the 80s, I had two teachers who were little people. I didn't know it was considered unusual. I also had three friends as a child that were also little people. Interesting.
Of topic, I was like WOW he looks like Gordon Ramsey! Two seconds later, he is a chef. Me 😮
What are the odds of that ? They weren't related?

I've had both my knees replaced and I still struggle. I don't care what anyone thinks of me, it's my life and there are some worse off than me. Love to you all.
I don't have any of the conditions that the people who are featured have, but I'm just short 4' 10". For any one who is challenged by their height, don't let it get in the way of your success, it hasn't mine. Even though I was told I couldn't do something, I overcame any obstacle placed in front of me, and you can too.
I'm 4'10 also...I admit when I see another adult my size I do stare and wonder if that's what I look like to other people...I mean...children r taller than me...its so nice to see another adult my size...I should try to make friends with them...I'm sure we'd have a lot in common

It is really concerning how nasty some people can be, children can be horrid. So much more awareness needs to be spread on disability and so people with conditions can feel equal and valued. I really hope Jess' confidence has grown and Jack has a good head on his shoulders.
Unfortunately, it’s MOST people. My friend is a little person and she stays in most days because of it.

Our kids are only ours for a season, to teach & guide, prepare for the wide world out there. These kids have special struggles but each person is unique, so is their situation & problems. It's up to parents to give them the ability to problem solve & overcome, special health conditions or not. Love them & enjoy them. 💕

One of my neighbors has achondroplasia. We’re not super close friends, but we’re friendly neighbors, of similar age and have kids the same age (grown up kids now). We are both middle aged women now and we’ve known each other for 25 years. We would look after each other’s kids and carpool and that kind of thing. It never once occurred to me to react to her any differently than to anyone else. But we haven’t really talked much about her dwarfism. I hate to think that she’s faced so much staring and people being weird.

I had a friend when I was younger who is a dwarf and all the girls loved him and he wasn't half as cute as Jack! I moved away and lost touch with him, hope he's still doing good!

I love to see how far we have come when it comes to people who are different. I watched a documentary about dwarfism from the 90s before this and it was crazy to me the difference. We still have a long way to go but it gives me some hope. ❤️
Was that the one by Jan Krawitz, which includes scenes from the annual convention? I saw only part of quite by chance, when it was shown on television. It was really good and I've always wanted to see the entire documentary.

As a man short in stature, and having felt the (lack of) growth pains as a teenager when I did not grow as fast as my peers I have a certain empathy for the toxic peer pressure that people with dwarfism experience. Parents have so much influence over our perceptions and acceptance of ourselves as we were created. On the other hand there are very real physical challenges to many people with dwarfism, and there is also the question about whether one should consider undergoing lengthening surgery for arms and legs, or if one has learned to be comfortable as they are, then one can focus on strengths and the beauty of life regardless of physical limitations, and with the emphasis on what you can do, and on what gives you passion. The latest tempting procedure for young people as young as 5 years old is a drug that gets injected periodically that will stimulate growth somehow. I am a skeptic concerning this injection, but I do know that mechanical lengthening has transformed the lives of those who have made that decision, and there doesn't appear to be any downside to this long process if that is the informed decision of a child with dwarfism with the input of other family members of course...
I literally had to pause this to comment......I just don't understand why people would stare or say nasty things, seriously all I see three vibrant young people small in statute 🤔 It honestly says more about the people commenting and clearly have issues, and projecting them onto people who look different. Just so sad really.

A minor point, but where are the health and safety inspectors when they're needed? 🙂 My heart was in my mouth as I watched the scene in the hazard-filled commercial kitchen, with Jack perching on those inverted plastic tubs, instead of being supplied with a number of good, solid, purpose-built steps!

I was born six weeks early weighing only 2 pounds 14teen inches long. The docters had never seen a baby born that short before. They measured me because they didn't know if I had dwafism or not. I don't have dwafism but I'm only 4 feet 11 inches tall. My great grandmother had dwafism but then they didn't know and didn't understand why she was so short.
I was not as small as you when I was born, but I never grew much after age 11/12. I'm 4' 10" so still a little shorter than you. There was no dwarfism in my family at all. Just small people. Never let your height get in the way of your successes, and you'll be great.
@@GOGOSLIFE same...my biggest growth spurt was an inch and a half...I think it's pituitary dwarfism...since we stopped growing

God made these three as they are. And my goodness their so strong pretty/handsome. They gave me strength while watching their struggles. Wow talking about "Earth Angel's" here's proof.
I find most "little people" quite good looking. I sometimes turn around after them for that, and not for curious staring.
I really like all of them. I have a good friend with this condition and she is the smartest person I know.

Where I live there are many Asians who tend to be of a shorter stature. A female is tall if she’s 5ft 3in or taller. Males are tall at 5ft 8 or 9in. People tend to be more aware n careful around smaller people. Always be willing to lend a hand.
If you sit n watch...they have to be clever n adapt the world to their needs.
I know people who look different on the outside, they are still the same on the inside.
It’s like being a certain skin tone is better than another. No...we are all different in one way or another. But...

My child has never known prejudice. She’s confident. Outgoing. Motivated. I’ve always taught her to be open minded. Reach out a helping hand or even say, Hello or Good morning to a store clerk or the janitor or a bus driver, even passerby’s with a smile.

I'm 4"2 I'm healthy I don't have any condition but some time people say rude things about me but kids do stare at me and some adults say mean things but I have good family and friends behind me 💯 some people even act crazy say they scared of me cause I'm short
