    A few things from an owner:
    The stock tires have to go, it looks like he's still on the stock michelins. They wear great, mine is at 8k in four months/25% left...... but just aren't enough traction for the power output this bike makes--even stock. I've broke traction at 90 in sixth.
    The stock shocks have got to go. This bike really should have 13+ shocks and an 18" rear wheel instead of the stock 17. I love the stock look, but guys are going to jack the rear up for practicality [necessity] anyway. I've bottomed out and dropped the bike. Luckily it was minimal, nothing a new exhaust and a little powdercoat won't fix.
    This setup is great--the fairing's ugly but function trumps form here. Despite the 'thug' SOA trend these bikes can pull serious miles in relative comfort while still maintaining the connection to machine. You can haul a whole hell of a lot of gear in the bags, the brakes and suspension are beyond adequate, you have two-up capability without the huge tour pack, and the amount of power this bike makes (!)--cruising is easy over 80. And it gets about 38mpg to boot.
    Oh hey just a note--I've ran the stock air cleaner with the screen over it at 80 for about eight hours in a rain storm--no trouble with it fouling. How's that for beta testing HD?

      Bobby Beatty they're great shocks, you would be perfectly happy with the ride quality, however height is not where it needs to be re the performance level of this bike. my peg feelers are...gone. I couldn't recommend lifter blocks enough, I've seen guys turn around lowering blocks for a quick fix. I would say if you don't bottom out a softail you won't have any issues.

      Scott Kohs I own a sportbike, the wife and i do alot of riding, just wanted to get you're opion. would this bike be good stock with a passenger. thanks for the reply

    • @sunsetusa6926
      @sunsetusa6926 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In a word, no. I would strongly recommend the street glide for the value that package offers.
      The dyna platform: swingarm mount passenger pegs. Pain in the ass is alleviated by standing on the pegs. Eventually, that pain will no longer be tolerable, usually after about an hour if you don't have a sissybar--regardless of the shocks supplied.
      The touring platform, while heavier, is a more rigid frame and the footpegs are frame mounted. Coupled with the fact that stock the street/road glide and road king all have better lean angles on the right at 32 deg. (29.5 on the dyna), and the new milwaukee eight motor, you really can't go wrong in that dept. Check out HD's "compare bikes" feature and look to performance to see what I'm getting at.

    I've got the 117 turning 118 HP 137 TQ and to be honest, this bike still scares me. I've been riding 40 years but never felt this kind fo torque. Setting the cruise to 70ish I had to brake hard once. When clear I hit resume and the bike damn near snatched the handle bars out of my hands.
    I put the Saddleman Dominator so I can have removable 2 up. Once I get the larger rear (probably going to a 200) and new wheels I'll have it painted. It;s a slow process after dumping that much cash into the bike and motor lol

Its a beast 125+ HP. Can run this baby up to 6400RPM !! Comes on strong at 2000 rpm. Nothing can touch it ! the M8 SE 117 can even come close !

    excellent. thanks for posting. i'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a new bike and have narrowed it down to a low rider s or a road king. i'll do 90% in-town riding and commuting, with occasional touring and weekenders. although these low riders are killer, i think the road king is ultimately more versatile and i'm leaning that way.

Sport bike rider my entire life.. 85 Kaw 1000r, ZX9, Hon929, 954, ZX-14 and more... just to say I enjoy riding now more than ever. Went to Lo Rider to get the closest thing to sport bike and for my lady to ride w/me. Interchange 2up seat with QD backrest w/rack for my lady comfort yet back to single seat and quick release on the Gauntlet and that sweet 117ci for the badassitude. Truly a great all round bike now! Never, ever, thought I'd be so happy not hittng 12,000 rpm+!

    I've been thinking about doing this to my 2016 Road Glide Ultra CVO. I've done the basics to it, exhaust and dyno tune. The bike runs good. I ride in the 4 corners of the southwest so I'm always at altitude. I just don't want to drop the cash to get this done right and not really see a big change for the better.

    Well done Matt. I just wanted to offer some observations after watching the video. I noticed that someone said why doesn't Harley Davidson offer this engine in the bike to start with and Harley Davidson practices "money grab" tactics. When you go out an purchase a car, most if not all models have different option packages. The base model has the least options with the most basic engine. A middle option package that offers more options as the base but not as many as the premium package. With each upgrade package, the price increases exponentially. The same holds true with just about any consumer based product. Harley Davidson does the same. Why is it a "money grab" when they are doing the same as everyone else. This allows people the opportunity to still have the opportunity to enter the world of Harley Davidson in an affordable way. If everything was premium, consumers would be relegated to purchase used or nothing at all. Also, used bikes allow people to purchase a model that they want but couldn't offered if only new was available. Matt also made a valid point that it would not be prudent to put some one on a bike they can't handle. Over time, with experience, you can move up the product line. Another point I would like is that some people perceive Harley Davidson's as big, underpowered, slugs. To this point I would say that in Harley Davidson's long and storied history, Harley Davidson has been involved in all types of racing. From board racing in the twenties and thirties, to flat track, drag racing, and yes superbikes. When Harley Davidson entered superbike racing with the VR 1000,in just a few years that were earning top three finishes and many thought the VR1000 was the best designed super bike of its day. Harley Davidson was competing against other brands with much more experience. Harley Davidson has proven they can design and produce anything they set their mind to and to the highest degree.

      minibullet91 the V-Rod will probably be just a little ahead until about 110mph, where the v-rod will keep pulling like a freight train til 145mph+ and leave the dyna behind.
      I put 40k+ miles on the v-rod, you can get a used one on Craig's for $7k easy. it's the best value for American v-twin muscle by far.
      all that being said, i would rather have the dyna, because it sounds world's better, it has much better fuel range, it handles better and is just a better overall touring bike.
      my 2 cents..

      I drag my Harley's as much as I can, drug quite a few v rods asses. I have never ridden one , but from my experience they are dogs. I know riders mean everything, just haven't found one that rides there v rod worth a fuck! I'd take that dyna any day.

    I wonder if you have any suggestions to improve the power even more. it's amazing now, but I might think the compression could be raised if anyone makes a piston yet. also wondered about heads and cams.

    Question: I have a 2017 FXDLS with a 110ci. The clutch lever feels really difficult with a lot of resistance. It's annoying/painful when I'm stuck in traffic. Is this normal for this bike??? And if so, is there anything I can do to the bike that would not negatively effect the rest of the bike or compromise something? Great video!!!

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 110 has a larger clutch spring that unfortunately makes the clutch pull harder. Yea, it's a hand work out in heavy traffic. With the extra power you need that heavy duty clutch though. There maybe a kit out there that reduces clutch effort but I'm not aware of anything specific.

      They're lying.
      I have a 117 Stage IV Screamin Eagle kit on mine, with a Vance and Hines pro pipe. It makes 112HP and 125 ft/lb.
      The 117 Stage IV Screamin Eagle kit only makes 9.5:1 compression, at best, and the 259E cams are very mild.
      I was considering the 10.5:1 T-Man Performance Wiseco pistons and Total Seal rings, and a set of cams from Comp. However, it would really need the oil pump and cam plate upgrades, and that still leaves the questionable crankshaft when you get above 135HP.
      So I'm looking at the SE120R crate engine.

    Hi There. Love all your vid's Matt!!...What an awesome bike the 117" is... my question though. What is the expected longevity of the stock Harley drive belt, with the addition of the extra power..?? I would hate a rubber band to break on a ride somewhere.. Matt from Oz

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Rudland thank you and good question. I would expect to be slightly less maybe. Again it's all about the rider. If you're a guy who is doing wheelies and burn outs it's gonna break a lot quicker. It's a factor of how much and quick you regularly crack the throttle aggressively.

    • @Mono-lc1pp
      @Mono-lc1pp 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for a super quick reply, Matt. Gave up the Wheelies [Mono's] when I gave up the 1000cc Jap bikes. But I do like the twisties, which is why I am leaning towards a 110 Dyna S as apposed to a Breakout. I am just concerned that a belt replacement is a fairly major service cost, since the whole primary and clutch has to come apart + the swing arm has to be removed for the replacement. Not something I want to be doing every 12 months. May have to look at a drive chain replacement option! Does harley offer this as an option?Matt from Oz.

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Rudland Harley doesn't offer a chain final drive. Replacing a belt isn't as hard you you think. You don't have to remove the swing arm.

    G'day from Aus Matt - love your videos. I have ordered a Low Rider S - trying to decide on 117 or standard 110. I just wanted to get your opinion on if the throttle is twitchy with the upgrade compared to standard and how the 117 would be in the wet? I found on a test ride in the wet that the standard bike can easily brake traction even at 50mph. Maybe a bigger and more sticky rear tyre??????

      Taylor Eldridge pistons and cylinders without heads Harley Davidson considers a stage 3. So if you're comparing a normal low rider to a low rider S. The FXDLS has the stage 3 benefits. Of course the stage 3 build for a FXDLS would take it to a 117 which is what is shown here.

    • @wardaddy9374

      Taylor Eldridge a stock low rider isn't a stage anything. It's a stock bike. Stage kits is just a generic way of grouping certain performance parts and work done to a bike.
