Update: I should have clarified that you can only choose ONE weapon at the start but you discover the others later and they act as "keys" to reach new areas. Hey SwitchUp Family - I wen't a bit ODD at the start there hahaha. I hope this review is of use to you! Mark
This game deserved a sequel and I’m so glad people are going to experience another banger! One more week and we all get to experience another great game! 💪🏾
Hm hm. A very fair review! I'll take "a tad safe" than "a buggy mess" any day. Into my wishlist this goes! A priority purchase when im able this one. 😋
Blasphemous is one of my favourite games of all time, and surely the best metroidvania in my opinion. The artstyle, the setting, the sense of dread... Pure gold. I would have bought it blindfolded, but now that it has an 89% from you guys I gonna buy it with a lighter heart. Thank you!
Thank you for the review, I have the first game with me but haven't got the time to finish it and this comes out now, makes me feel excited as I have two awesome games to relish. You guys are awesome as always.
Although I’m having a blast playing this one there are some things I miss from the original. Like the executions. In the first game every enemy had a unique execution animation. They stick with a basic animation in this one, minus a few unique kills for certain enemies. Also, although I do appreciate never getting lost or confused in any way and always knowing where to head next, I sort of miss the more cryptic nature of the first one. It felt more souls like, whereas this one feels much more metroidvania like. In any case, I can’t wait for the DLC and some possible new skins.
B1 had better tone, atmosphere, characters, and storytelling. B2 had better gameplay, exploration, and map design. I feel like B2 also missed the mark on art direction since most of the areas and enemies were forgettable compared to the distinct gothic horror style of the first. Also, it was way too EZ.
Think a point or two more in the value section would be better, 20 to 30 hours for a normal run is a lot and is perfect for this kind of game, yes Hollow Knight spoiled us with the price and length but everything else from your review was perfect. Thanks for your videos !!
I have literally no interest in this game [the older I get the more I like my chill games], and yet here i am watching the whole video and dropping a like. Why? Because the SwitchUp boys deserve all the clicks! Best reviewers out there, keep it up boys! Seeyaaa!
I loved the first Blasphemous so if the main criticism is that its just more blasphemous than im all for it!! 🔥 cant wait to make time for this awesome & morbid metroidvania..
I just beat it. I loved the first game but this one was disappointing: 1. As you say, it’s very safe. They are still stealing verbatim from SOTN (warps, elevators…) 2. It’s way too easy to the point of being boring. Most bosses can be beaten on the 2nd or 3rd try. Regular enemies pose almost no danger 3. The red disc prayer is completely OP 4. There is basically no penalty for death. You can get back your lost guilt anytime so there is no need to pick up your “bloodstain” again 5. Most of the weapon power ups are useless and I never used them except the one that replenishes your health 6. The music is good but the first game was better 7. I quickly got loads of money but there’s nothing really to spend it on Still a fun game I guess but I was hoping for so much more 6/10
Exactly what I wanted from a sequel! Two of my other favorite MV’s, Salt and Sanctuary and Axiom Verge, totally muffed their sequels trying to take risks. For games as great as these, I just want more of the same with improvements, sounds like that’s what we’re getting!
@@zyffe Nice! And yeah, in the past couple years there have only been about 3 Metroidvanias I’ve loved - most of the rest have been letdowns. So I would hate another risky sequel gone bad

So wait, I’m a little confused. Near the beginning you say that we can choose only one of the three main weapons, yet later on you talked about switching weapons. Are those other weapons like sub weapons of some kind? Or do you later gain access to the other main weapons as the game progresses?
I stopped at one point in the first game because it was so difficult. The Rest Rest of the game was still so enjoyable that I'll definetly play this sooner or later
I've never played the first one as I've only in the last year or so become a big fan of Soulslikes (and much more recently been trying more Metroidvanias). Nice review! Been looking forward to this for a while now. Currently playing crowsworn demo on steam and now this next week! Cant wait. Delighted to hear platforming was improved. I felt it was a bit wonky in the first. Big pity about the new cutscene style. I MUCH prefer the original pixel style for cutscene.

@@SwitchUpYt kool thx for reply. So that entering areas? Cuz every video I seen so far it looks to be 2 seconds and that can be most times. That can be fine tho I loved the first one on switch.
silksong is supposed to be about 5 times the size of the first hollow knight, and i've seen people say they wouldn't pay $30 for it, simply because it's an indie game. that's just stupid to me. imo the first hollow knight is easily worth $60. it's bigger, more fun, and more polished than many triple a games that cost $60+. hollow knight is already a huge game, the biggest metroidvania i've played by far, so if silksong is actually 5 times bigger, i'd gladly pay $60 for it. i hope they at least charge $30, they deserve at least that. they could have split it into 4 games that are all a little bigger than the original hollow knight, and sold them for $20 a piece. unlike aaa developers though, they're not simply thinking about how they can weasel their fanbase out of as much money as possible.
Have to say while I did love the first game, the sequel has sunk its claws in much deeper! It feels far more fluid with a lot more going on to hold my interest! I'm not the best at these games but I haven't enjoyed dying over and over this much in a very long time! Haha...
Okay, Blasphemous 2 or Dead Cells, which do I buy? I've played about 10 hours of the first Blasphemous game, but had to stop for a few weeks and struggled to pick it back up due to my skill drop off in that time.

The “not too difficult” parts is what completely unsold me.
