    So glad we found your channel. We had an overnight last year at the end of the season. TruckBed Tent further up the road by the lava tube. Will try this area next month.

      I wanted to check that area out too, but didn’t leave myself enough time! Next time, I guess. This is a great place to camp & explore, and close to the sand dunes.
      Thanks for watching and commenting! ✌🏼

    I've camped here several times over the past several years, having not stayed out there in over 4 years, i was curious if the road conditions had changed, it all looked just as i remembered. I am curious if that last round of severe rain from last summer has made the trail worse. This area is at about 4000' elevation so summer nights "should" somewhat mild. Excellent format for the video, super informative, concise!

      Thanks for the comment, and I haven’t heard anything about the road being washed out, but I know which rain you’re talking about!

    i was just boondocking off kelbaker south of I40 for a few days until the winds came. i may go back and check these sites out.
    for those long driveways with only a single site it would be helpful if there were some sort of universal sign to indicate that the site is occupied, like two crossed sticks or stones in the form of an “X” or something.
    thanks for the work you do.

      Cool!
      Yeah, I camped that 1st site with a long drive (the 4th site on the video) a couple years ago and I had a lot of traffic turning around. It’s also hard to tell that it’s a site until you come up on the people camping there. So yeah, a universal “site occupied” sign would be great!
      Thanks for watching and the comment! Enjoy your time if you check it out and I bet the desert has greened up some since I was there in January!

      @@highdesertcampertours it’s definitely green and just about to bloom. there’ll be yellow everywhere soon. i’m camping at needles mountain road. i haven’t explored too far in as i knew i’d have to go get provisions but when i get back from havasu today i’ll go a bit deeper. any suggestions?

    • @highdesertcampertours
      @highdesertcampertours  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! I always try to camp/film the videos during off-season so there aren’t too many people around, so I miss the blooms, etc. 👎🏼
      I haven’t explored that road yet, or south of I-40 in that area, but it looks awesome!
      I’ve also wanted to explore Craggy Wash…

      Collapsible road cones, handy to have in the car anyways for emergencies

    Wow, this video was exactly what I needed to "pre-scout" spots. I saw you cited good cell signal at the spots. Do you recall how strong it was and who is your carrier? I work while I camp and not ready to plunk down the cash for Starlink! Thanks, great video.

      I had 4 bars LTE Verison
      Have a great time- it’s such a beautiful place to camp! 🏕️

    HOWS THE WIND IN THAT AREA

    • @highdesertcampertours
      @highdesertcampertours  ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn’t windy the 2 times I’ve been there, and some of the sites are protected some by boulders. If the wind is coming from the south, you’d be protected, but coming from the north it would be a different story. Also, Kelso Dunes is to the north, so could be sandy if blowing from the north to the south- hope that helps!

    Do you mind sharing coordinates of these campsites?

    • @radosawjuszczyk638
      @radosawjuszczyk638 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or tell where more or less are 4,5,6,7 campsites? Is it somewhere along the Kelbaker road close to the lava fields?

    • @highdesertcampertours
      @highdesertcampertours  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      (34.8086741, -115.6222425) That should get you to general area of 6 & 7. Granite Pass is south of the Kelso Dunes and about 8-9 miles north of I-40. Hope that helps!
