Prof. Hunter & my new found inspiration Pam Keith. Please bring this idea of lobbyists think tank sororities to Dr. Greg Carr & Roland Martin. Both Alphas and Roland has been looking for an assignment like this one. Pretty Please 💝💝💝💝😍 Pam Keith made the hair on my neck stand up when she started talking about her thoughts, even you Prof. Hunter put your hands together. 💝💝💝💝 Our destination is clear.

And there lies the problem. The electorate is uninformed, ignorant and exhausted. So when it is absolutely necessary for them to vote they are in a dissolution place. Perfectly correct Professor Hunter.

Eye opening! This is so what we need. The Divine 9 definitely could start here. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta, our programmatic thrusts are divided into different areas and it would benefit the orgs to find one specific area and focus on that. So much we do not know, So much to do, So little time BUT we've got to start somewhere so we're not talking about the same issue 10 years down the road. Thanks Pam Keith for your expertise!

What are the rules for 503c7 organizations on lobbying? I am also a Delta and I don’t know the rules. If we can lobby, can we set up the Black Think Tanks and then bring in an arm that could do the lobbying? I love this idea and am so energized by it!!

Professor Hunter: Great interview segment! I am a Nubian as well. This interview just popped up for me on YT. I watched it right away. OMG! This is so timely, and I hope it will be a watershed moment. I hope this discussion will be as important as the one held the day you talked to Dr. Carr and said “let me press record”. I have been troubled by the lack of representation for our issues as black people. I was just asking myself the following question a few days ago: Wasn’t W.E.B. Du Bois a whole tank by himself? He created and published documents about how we should address problems. I do not know if he took it as far as is needed to go, which is what is suggested in this interview. Do what white people do, write the legislation for them and then hold their feet to the fire.
We need a black think tank. As your guest stated, we, as black people define what is good or popping in this culture. (Others benefit from it It.) It is time for us to focus on the momentum of Movement and Memory to build the world we want to live in and not tolerate this discriminatory and capricious environment that we currently have.
We should be paying attention to people like Leonard Leo and what is doing. The white nationalists have highlighted how easy it is to get stuff changed in the broken “system of democracy”. These folks are “copying and pasting” change things all over the country to the detriment of black people. Or as least, that is how I see it….

Absolutely love the Karen Hunter Show. I have learned so much from Karen and her guests. 🥰
Pam Keith broke it down for us. 🙂
A Federalist Society incubator system is what is missing and needed to prepare people from our community for this political game; we have been playing an unsophisticated game of politics. I would venture to say that is because this system was not created for our community in the first place and we have been having to figure it out. Thus, we have been playing checkers versus chess.
I had wondered if our communities had any lobbyists working for us and Pam Keith confirmed that do not have any; we need lobbyists that will create and support legislature that represents our communities in THESE times because grassroots organizing alone is not enough. Rewriting the penal code sounds like work, but that is what these politicians have been elected to do, work for us.
Just this week, I had a thought that I need to figure out who to contact re: Dept of Labor (DOL) and the Office of Worker's Compensation Program (OWCP) because OWCP is a hot mess and I cannot believe that it is okay for things to operate the way they have; OWCP has messed over so many people. I plan to be that squeaky wheel that gets the grease.

Excellent, just excellent. We've got some maturing to do politically and no one who hears this can ever again pose the question, how and why does my vote count? If these organizations were to form(as I add in my Dr. Carr voice, like Voltron) someone is needed for the research and gritty footwork, and at each end of the spectrum utilizing youths and older people would be a perfect way to add an additional Africana framework community building aspect.

Who informs and advises the Congressional Black Caucus? I remember back in the 90s there was an attempt to import Cuban style healthcare into Black communities; with the help of Cuba, whatever happened to that? Lily White US representatives lobbying for cheap and available Urea from South of the border for White mid-western farmers. Who fights for Black farmers in the US?

Good conversation. Your guest has some good points on how the black community should step up their political game. However, we do have black think tanks and lobbyist who have been working for years to influence legislation, i.e.Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, PolicyLink, The Black Institute, McKinsey Institute

This is a very powerful segment. LGBTQ, Jewish Community and other communities understand the economic power. We Black people love designer purses, shoes and jewelry way too much to really take a stand. If just of the US Black youth decided to stop buying these expensive tennis shoes it would hit the economy. I don't see White kids wearing that stuff only Black kids walking around like it is a great thing to wear the labels of the oppressors. If Black women stop buying expensive purses it would crimple the economy. We wear and advertise more brand name than any other demographic and are less respected.

  • @edjames9908

We do need both lobbies and think tanks, but we also have to develop a way to protect these institutions when they come under attack. We forget Acorn came under attach just prior to the attack on our voting rights. If you look at the loss of Black wealth there's a relationship to that and the attack on Acorn .
We argue our Representative's don't represent us yet when they come under attack we don't protect. When have we ever punished anyone for their attack on our interest!

    Excellent! 💯🔥
This is the best response I've heard to the "What Difference Does It Make" position...
I'm a '60s kid and had mentors who never believed in "throwing in the towel l" so it's in my DNA
    BUT
This is a solution that takes the struggle to the next level and puts some meat on the bone..
Also, I haven't missed an election since '74 partly because Ma, born in the early '20s during the Depression, Jim Crow in the South...
When she moved us North (actually ran outta town for being uppity)
    And
Dressed the whole family up and voted EVERY election day...she wasn't even political...😉
    (EDIT)
One thing that caught my attention:
Legislatures don't write legislation.. Isn't THAT THEIR JOB? Just saying...🤔

Dear Karen Hunter, this has to be one of the most important interviews you have done and we should all be grateful to you for that. I have been aware of powerful lobbyists like the pharmaceutical companies and the Asian communities. And what they have in common is wealth and power, using their wealth to influence legislation and policy makers. This is what your guest Pam eventually eluded to. It is a shame that the politically minded of the community, have not emphasized that think tanks and lobbying are what will make real difference in getting representation to make substantial change for our community.
A couple of things I have to admit bothered me though. Why did Pam have to use triggering tropes like 'being beaten' and ' beware of the person with the whip' to scare people to vote for one party over the other. This party that she is advocating for does not have a great track record of doing anything let alone positive things for black voters. From what I understand, the most harmful legislation affecting black families since Jim Crow, was Joe Biden's 1994 Crime Law. This law was devastating to black families, incarcerating thousands of black men. It's affects to this day are still being felt. The same party she is saying, won't make things worse for black voters. Really? How feeble an attitude is that?
But why is it though that no one thought to inform us that we should have been Lobbying in conjunction with voting? All this time we've been playing Wiffle Ball instead of MLB.
The other thing that irked me was Pam saying that we should get other minority groups as allies to help the black community with lobbying for change. Why can't we appeal to allies from all groups? Can't we push for anything without other groups gaining from our efforts for once? The assumption, is that other minority groups share our interests and have our interests at heart. There's an unspoken belief other minority groups do not have racism in and amongst their members. I for one, know that they like every other group, do.
Karen I hope I don't sound too negative, I am a subscriber to your channels, and like you want what is best for us. I am truly grateful you for all your efforts on our behalf. We may not always see things in the same way, but our aims are the same. To see our people in their rightful place highly respected and regarded as the originals.

Please share all of the components of a think tank that can be done courtesy of HBCUs.
The best think tank black folks have had has been primarily Loving Mothers and Favored Aunties.
Coming out of the center of the Show Me state I have seen how a Josh Hawley has been created courtesy of golf courses and country clubs. We have the foundation to do a service to earn all that will free us and DO the actually doable good that serves and benefits all of us.
We can start with the platform of clean water. The Sling Shot could be one of many tools for good use to solve the problem of poisoned water. I would love to be surrounded by a group of people who thought of actual doable SOULutions. That can be the name of the premier think tank of HBCUs.

Question. Is it almost too late for this AMAZING new strategy to form a lobbyist campaign? It seems like if the Republicans take over the Congress, our new league of lobbyists won't have a say in anything no matter how much money or power we attain. Is it too late?

It's about economics. It's always has been. People should look into their accounts and ask if they are better now than they were in the past years based on the policies in place. Regardless of if you agree with a person ideology and social view. Two people can say the same thing, but just brcause one say it in a nicer way with a different motive is just as bad as screaming it. We have seen billions of aid giving to other groups and countries instead of much needed communities such as Mississippi and Michigan where the water is still dirty. Also in some of these local elections what new taxes are they trying to bring up in both blue and red states.

Another observation is that what we see happening today are the results of long term strategies orchestrated over the last 2 or 3 decades by the Federalists, tea party, and Heritage foundations and other similar groups. Therefore this may not be solely a Black deficiency because unless I have missed or overlooked it; the democratic party as a whole is also deficient. It lacks groups similar to those who have shaped the long term republican agenda. Democratic party continues to shoot from the hip, sadly other than a few legislators who have the capability to think and do the work like a Katie Porter, the rest are pontificating and making pulpit promises.
In terms of a think tank, the Heritage Foundation gained their impact five decades ago when they got Ronald Reagan into the oval office. Plus their track record shows they continue to sustain their clout and influence. Therefore in the case of the democratic party, what think tanks they have, they may be ineffective in how they articulate and execute their strategies. If both parties lack think tanks and lobbyists who can act on behalf of us, do see the imperative to have one; and equally as important is to not overlook holding political incumbents accountable as re-election quid pro quo.

No, it's not about those we elect or the CBC. It's more about those with capital who write policies explicitly for their benefit and they've funded those in place to pass said policies. Thus, we don't have group or individual capital to impact the larger society. If we did we would receive the attention of LGTBQ, Asian, etc. Communities. Can't compare our group needs to Geo political issues, internally even the LGTBQ doesn't get the attention of Russia. So, keeping to America its our lack of capital that prevents us from moving the needle. We do more than vote and move on, we keep our issues in the news, Black news. We aren't in position to keep it in the mainstream. Again that speaks to our lack of capital and ownership. For instance, we had A BLACK NEWS CHANNEL that wasn't Black owned and under funded but it did speak to our issues. Otherwise our voices are only in social media. Lastly, the think tanks pay their staffs. They are funded by Koach Brothers, etc. We would need those types of funders to have real think tanks

Black maternal health = black birthing centers with a blend of practitioners (OB-GYN, nurse practitioners, midwives, doulas, nutritionist, eastern medicine practitioners, social workers). Very few hospital births.

@@KarenHunterShow oh absolutely not. I was referring to the "attempt" presented with the contract for Black America in trying to create leverage by playing both political sides with the intention of mobilizing behind who was gonna give us what we want. I'm not referring to "him" per se...but that Strategy. Thoughts???🤔

I keep hearing the same narrative for voting, but Democrats are in power everywhere,so for me that negates her argument And yet I will still go with Dr.Claude Anderson and not voting until Reparations is on the table. Btw The Harvest Institute is a Think Tank that we mostly don’t support. And I’ve never heard it mentioned on here.

it isn't "we" do not play the game of politics sophisticatedly...more that "we" are and have been stuck on playing the game against each other. Symbolically, the Greek Phalanx/Roman Legion is the political avatar champion for white nationalism whereas the "others" pop up on the political scene as independent hordes, uber talented n powerful champions arise no doubt but there is no unified movement....However, there is a Ta Seti within us where we combine individual enterprise n prowess with wholistic n altruistic civilized culture..and no army wanted to face Ta Seti

Beyond think tanks at this we need strategic communities. We need planned communities in the battle ground states whose mission is to dilute the voting power of residents, to ensure that candidates are pro black agenda and provide collective national representation.

Chase Fasten, agree wholeheartedly with you about overlooking battle ground states substantially diluting the voting power. In the case of Blacks demographically, 70 percent of us live in the southeastern states. If more attention is not placed there, we will only get more of what we have not received in terms of issues related to the rapidly expanding racial and ethnic disparities. As a minority group; not focusing on the southeastern states is a death knell for any quid pro quo type agenda!
