    My holy grail video🙏 thank you man, you went so in-depth with everything and anything, the good and the bad and the ugly. I'm glad you didn't shy away from anything and tell it for what it was! I was able to imagine being in those circumstances, and it's helped me think more about what it could be like for me if things go through.
    I actually just graduated from college, having studied my last semester abroad in my home country. I'm looking to head into FEMA Corps for 2024, and I'm so glad you talked about everything the good the bad the ugly because I only had my ideas of what it could be like. But imagining myself in these situations has definitely helped me look at a potential service with FEMA Corps and what I could encounter, what I could struggle with, what I could learn, and what I could use to keep growing as a person. And I also know that experiences vary wildly between teams, so it'll be important to keep an open mind and character while away in general! 😄
    I just submitted my application for FEMA Corps, just waiting on my references to submit their parts. If I do get lucky to get in, I may consider doing a catalog of my experiences too so we can see how similar or different our experiences could be!
    Thank you very much for everything brother, hope you're doing well and taking care of yourself! ✌

    •FEMA Corps is harder to get into and has a stricter entrance process. College Education helps increase your chances of being accepted.
    •Traditional Americorps is easier to get into. Tbh all you have to do is not mess up. Being fresh out of high school vs college is irrelevant.

    Would you say that doing traditional NCCC first was beneficial to get into FEMA, or were there not many transferable skills between branches?

    • @J91Y
      @J91Y  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JoyceyQueen Nope, you can 100% do FEMA CORPS first without doing a day of traditional NCCC. But if i’m being honest doing traditional will prepare you very much for the hardships that come with service work and in my opinion better than fema does. The conditions of Trad, NCCC will raise your lvl of basic work abilities and skills that will push you to a higher lvl in FEMA. A lot of the soft skills were beneficial: public speaking , taking command , leadership, perseverance, budget control , mental resilience, effective working, time management, fitness, and honestly it’ll teach you be a stronger person overall.
      which is why the drop out rate for people who did traditional nccc first is much lower. i think only 10% who did it first leave FEMA cause it’s too hard. but the ones who didn’t their drop out rate increases to 59%.
      But the actual on the job work of FEMA you’ll learn from stage 1 like everyone else.
      In my opinion, Trad was my foundation for my success in FEMA but some people can do it and be great at it without ever doing TRAD NCCC

      @@J91Y I'm struggling between the two choices but since I live in Florida where a lot of hurricanes hit I'm wondering if I should do FEMA. I've just never done office work before. What skills should I have or try to have for FEMA? I know you mentioned Excel.
      Also thanks for replying! Since the video is old wasn't sure if you would lol.
      I guess my main thing is I wanna do something to help others but also since I'm turning 26 I want a stable decent paying job too. Just wish I did Americorps when I was younger but that wasn't feasible at the time.
      Also is there a way to transfer my application from TRAD to FEMA? And what do you think my chances are of being accepted since I haven't done college?

    • @J91Y
      @J91Y  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MonsterX768oh that’s great to hear ! i’m from florida too specicallt south florida ! and ok im gonna answer everything 🫡but first what part of FL are you from?
      1. Even if you’ve never done office work before it definatly helps to come there with skills in Excel, Word, Powerpoint Creation. All of which the training for that you can look up online on google. FEMA doesn’t teach you how to do it they might give you a quick lesson but nothing to really master.
      2. You will 1000% get to make a direct impact on the communities your serving in FEMA especially now with all the disasters and after it is finished you’ll have a stable job in the organization that from my knowledge the pay ranges from $23-$28 an hour for entry positions. Super easy to get in literally it’s fast track hiring where as normal civilians have to wait 3-7 months for a response to get hired. which would be great for you considering your older at 26.
      TRAD does not lead to much of any work oppuritnies unless u do WANT to do enviournmental beautification, firefighting, or non profit work.
      3. if you’re planning to switch over from TRAD to FEMA, your gonna have to cancel your TRAD application on the site and then wait till a FEMA Class opening pops up. and reapply to it the same way u did to get TRAD. if you need help with this step talk to me or send me your number.
      4. An, your age alone will give you a boost when applying for FEMA even with no college experience they primarily look for older corp members anyway to hire + post covid FEMA CORP is dying for recruits!
      in my opinion it sucks that u didn’t get to do Americorps when you were younger but hey it is what it is and now that you know u can make the most out of it and even use the education award to go to college if that’s what u wanna do.
      but i think as an older person looking for job stability FEMA would be the better option for you ….. but if your looking for “experince and adventure” then TRAD is more for you. this is why i push TRAD more on the younger folks who don’t NEED $$$ in the moment and wanna help people directly on a “boots to the ground lvl”
      but then again man if u really are more interested in hard labor and hate office stuff TRAD can be a good option!
      u just gotta ask youself what are your priorities

      @@J91Y thanks again for replying and answering my questions! I live near Duval or DUUUUVVAALLL as they say lol.
      Luckily I have courses on Udemy for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Guess I'll be powering through those in preparation. How often did you use those apps during your work?
      My main concern rn is making sure I can enter my 30s with a good job. I still love helping others so I figured I could use the money and experience from FEMA to fund my college and branch out from there. I could also probably do firefighter work as a volunteer once I get everything settled.
      About the application; would canceling my application look bad? And when I submit my application for FEMA would the references I have be contacted and have to fill out a form again? Reason I'm asking is cause one of my references is a very busy woman and if possible I'd like to give her a heads up.
      I would like the experience and adventure of NCCC but I suppose I could always find that other places. Very happy you got to do both! :)

    • @J91Y
      @J91Y  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MonsterX768 that’s great! i’m from Boca Raton and tbh if your older def id stick with FEMA man you’ll be setting yourself up for a lot of success. like im pretty sure the going rate now is $25 an hour and $38 for over time (depending on what state your from of course).
      also, nah man canceling your NCCC application won’t look bad in anyway, shape, or form. If anything it shows your focused on what you know your goals are!
      Nothings worse than joining something where your heart is half way invested and u drop out the second the motivation dies. You’re doing yourself a favor by doing which program is right for you! :)
      But yes the references will all need to be contacted again, rein-formed about the new application cause NCCC will contact them again. Definatly give them a heads up and let them know what’s going on!
      FUN FACT: the max amount of years you can do NCCC TRAD/ FEMA Corp and collect a $7,000 stipend at the end is 2. So i did 2 years and collected $14,000 for education. So i did TRAD first and then FEMA CORP. i was younger and thought why not 🤷🏽‍♂️… i started at 22 and finished at 24. U can do that too !
      but from the vibe i’m getting from you it seems u just wanna breathe life into your career already DO ITTTTT PULL THE TRIGGER AND SIGN UP! U WILL GET TO GO ON THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME

    Thanks for making the video it was very informative!!! Im currently fresh out of high school and would like to pursue working in the federal government further. If I get accepted into FEMA corp would they offer a job to someone without a college degree at the end of the program? And if not do you think doing two consecutive service years of FEMA corp would help me to land a job without a degree? Thanks!

    • @J91Y
      @J91Y  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello!!!! thanks for enjoying the content and i appreciate the support!
      To answer, Yes it’s still very possible to get hired with FEMA after a year in fema corps. From my experience both degree and degree less peeps got jobs. the difference full time vs part time.
      But the ones with degrees were referred to better paying / full time jobs as opposed to part time jobs as a reservist.
      If your end goal is to work with fema full time get your degree as that will be hard to acquire without one. But if your interested in making good cash, paid travel, adventure do fema corps to get access to part time Fema jobs.
      i think i answered both of your questions properly in that answer.
