I have personally found the best way to sleep in a cold environment. Remove as much clothes before getting in your sleeping bag, thereby letting your body warm your bag. My first night at arctic survival, I went to sleep inside my sleeping bad with my long johns on. Woke up freezing and stood in the snow to remove my long johns. Slept well and warm the remainder of the night. try it and you will like it.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen you look like you are genuinely suffering! I camped in northern MN this year for dear season and I had a RTT on my truck and a propane heater in the tent. I don’t use the heater while sleeping it’s just too dangerous! CO, isn’t really the fear it’s starting a fire that’s the big problem. I know what it’s like to slide on frozen Sorel’s and take a dump at 4:45 AM to get to your deer stand before 6. NO HOT FOOD until lunch. Pray for sun and NO wind. Super grateful for the thermos of coffee made the night before. I am glad to have pushed myself, in no small way because of you, Lars! I know the suffering, and am more resilient because of it. Embrace the suck, and enjoy the small stuff. Thanks for the video. Keep doing what you are doing.

I live in Australia Lars, so no where near the cold you are enduring. I am originally from New Zealand, back in the mid 1970's, worked in the forest industry, in winter, to cut out some windfall, on the Canterbury plains, at the base of the great southern alps. The windchill was mind blowing, I used to dress up for work in layers, and looked like the Michelin man. My top coat was a very long WW2 Army Great Coat. Wool and layers, was the only way to stay warm. Love watching you against the elements, and all that 'funky stuff' mate. Keep on doing what you do. They were dropped sheds laying right next to each other. I had a guy say "They don't do that. You put them there for the video". Ha! I swear I did not! That is how I found them!
Interesting about your pulse. It makes sense when you think about it.
Lars, that Siberian Log Fire....does the base log ever burn out from under the rest? If that happens, can you fix it or does it just become a "normal fire"??
    "Happy People" was great!
Ok, now it is morning, you just got up, and that base log did burn through dropping the upper logs. When that happens, does the fire tend to burn out if you don't fix it? I've never tried this type of fire, but it looks like a good system.

I don't have to deal with snow where I am but it can, on occasion, drop below zero in some of the places I've camped. It's very educational to see channels like yours that show no nonsense common sense survival tools. Love your videos. 😃

In army we were taught a few ways to warm up your hands in cold weather.
First was to simply put your hands between your legs near your crotch because that is one of the warmest places on human body.(this was mostly reserved for use when in training in the forest because it wouldn't be very orderly looking when soldiers stand with their hands down there lol)
The second went like this: Put your arms straight down and then bend your wrist away from your body, palms down (so your arms and hands make bit of an L shape on your sides) then with your hands in this position rise and lower your shoulders rapidly and strongly. You can even feel the blood moving in your fingers when you are doing this.

Many years ago our pa taught us to drive as soon as we could reach the pedals(even taught "cheaters" just in case) and to survive in case he was injured working in woods felling trees, my husband and I later taught our children the same> today this knowledge is not passed down as it once was so, we feel, these videos are critical.
Our oldest son, who absorbed this knowledge from everyone he could, is almost 50 now and his favorite time to camp is in winter, lol, I know he has the knowledge to stay safe in -20F N. Montana USA weather, I can not imagine -20C without large amounts of snow, thank you for sharing your knowledge! I will be sharing this with him!

Looks gourmet even for it being camping cooking :) My family usually buries potatoes under the fire before we build it so we have fresh baked potatoes in the morning all cooked overnight and ready. Nicely paired with some soft runny fried eggs, bacon, and pancakes with jam to go with the coffee :D

Hi Lars my friend - you looked cold 🥶 We still haven't hit the cold times here in Alberta yet but we will soon. Mukluks (N1-B US Air Force) are my favourite for the cold as you can sleep with the liners and keep them warm. The fabric on the mukluks soon warms up when you get your feet inside too 😉 Best wishes from Canada 🇨🇦 Michael!

Thanks Lars, fantastic entertainment. The only thing I could think of whilst watching this, after watching all your gulag camp ones recently, is how utterly miserable it must have been, underweight, no food, basic clothing and no fire or modern sleeping bag. How these people even survived one night at these temperatures is beyond my comprehension. It would be super awesome content if you could find out some of the tricks the people used in the gulags to try keep warm and what kind of clothes and sleeping arrangements they had which enabled them to survive a winter there.

The fire gives particulates for your breath's moisture to condense around. If there's no particulates in the air then your exhalations won't have anything to condemse around.

This is the second person to say this. Dust has nothing to do with your exhalation condensing and being visible. The dew point determines it.
