    Sitting here in front of a screen, a freshly cooked steak in front of me in an insulated storage box I call my home watching a man sleep in a snow shelter on the other side of the world... man I love technology & new survival Russia videos

      Exactly! If you wouldve asked me 15 years ago that it was normal to watch a man shelter in the snow while youre taking a shit at home, i wouldve absolutely called you crazy... but i bet that out of all these views, a certain number will have been sitting on the toilet at some point lmao. Technology is so cool youguys.

    I spent a night in very simple snow cave high in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. I simply dug into the snow that had accumulated on the lee slope. After digging about 4 feet into the snow, I hit the ground, so I made a 90 degree right turn and dug out a tunnel of about 6 feet. The tunnel was higher than the entrance. That night, there were high winds and the temperature dropped to about minus 20 Fahrenheit. Inside I slept in a minus 20 degree NorthFace Polargard sleeping bag inside a Goretex bivy sack. The bivy sack was great due to the melting snow dripping on me all night. It was very calm and pleasant inside despite the high wind and frigid temperatures outside. I spent the night with the sleeping bag unzipped and me half out. I believe that I could have been fine with a plus 30 degree Fahrenheit bag. It was a very enjoyable experience.

    My older brother and I used to build snow forts (shelters) all the time. The hardest part was finding the right materials to give the fort (shelter) enough structure to not collapse during the night. The temperature differential of -20F outside and +20F inside always made them sag. The best one we ever had was arranging some dead standing into a teepee and then piling snow in circles up to the top. It took hours to build but held together for months.

    Lars a fellow member of the Stanley vacuum bottle society! Here in Saskatchewan Canada we have documented cases of wolves killing humans , and as you say about the natives knows best well our Cree people have a great respect for wolves, and not as friends. Finally Finns make the best equipment for the Boreal Forest!

    • @bezzerwizzer6448
      @bezzerwizzer6448 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The truth.
      I am a bit upset about the "rewilding evolment" have told so many misleading stuff about wolfs (lie by omission, and such...at best ) , that a lot of people actually think they are just as an misunderstood dog.
      Well.
      (Expect the really strong instinct , that is...)
      Anyway. To make a shelter in this kind of cold, is just impressive.
      It is hard to phantom how cold it really is, without standing in it for a while.
      It can be really cold in Norway to , espesially some places. I have felt how it is so cold it is hard to breath, and even the lashes freezes to ice .
      But still...To sleep in that type of could...

    Best advice i can say is don't bring a damn ounce of cotton with you else you freeze to death! And no leather I only had 100% wool...everything😉
    (Cotton and leather have the tendancy to absorb moisture and hold it)

    Great one, again, Mr. S. R. !
    Just one thing: in the morning, as well as at at night, always show at least a glimpse of the making the fire, heating water, cooking a meal. Those are key moments,. especially in cold weather camping. Makes us almost want to be there gathering sticks, lighting them and once the fire's going and something's cooking...
    And at daybreak a quick 360 pan of the camera so we feel like we're seeing the scene as you do.
    If it's possible a bird's eye view from a drone is great too. Tells us where we are.
    On another topic, another vehicle project this spring would be fun. Maybe a classic Soviet snowmobile. Military spec? Or some other military vehicle, not another huge one like the tank.

    Word from a photographer; be careful with heating the camerabags, it is possible that when cold camera is put to the warm bag, the condensation can appear and thats not good if its done multiple times. Just like firearms jam when exposed to temperature changes, cameras can also suffer from icing and deicing of the condesated air. Brilliant video, terveisiä suomesta!

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is always a concern for me. I of course know about condensation issues. When it is this cold, the cameras are only out for a short time, so they don't really get cold. Many people have suggested me to attach heating elements to the cameras. I'm sure it would damage the cameras more than it would help. What do you do with your cameras in the cold?

    • @upjaakkola231
      @upjaakkola231 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SurvivalRussia I usually carry mine in the bag or in sling, but batteries are in a warm pocket, and when going to warm place I put it on bag. The bag is cold so the temperature chance is going to be so slow that little to no condensation happens. I believe that the bag holds some kind of own climate, so the camera warms up with the bag. I dont know exact temps but thats what ive been doin and my camera still works after manymany -25 to +18 cycles.

      @SurvivalRussia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@upjaakkola231 Thank you for your reply. When my cameras are really cold, I put them in a plastic bag filled with cold air and tie a know on it. Then I bring the bag into the house and let it stand for an hour or so. This also prevents condensation well.

      Right. Spooning others or dogs help big time. I learned in the Marines that's it not gay to get 3 or 4 Marines under a wool blanket to stay warm in freezing temperatures. Got to stay toasty and doubling, tripling, or quadrupling body heat can mean the difference between freezing or staying warm. It sounds funny but it surely works.
