All of these items could have been donated and I believe the business could then take a tax write off. I’m glad that you’re donating to women’s shelters. I used to volunteer at a couple of them. Many times those women ran without taking any possessions so they have nothing! Thank you so much for donating these items. This just blows me away!

One of my all-time dreams is to win a large lottery so I can use the money to build shelters and feed the needy; to basically make the lives of others better. You are doing that type of work. At my age, however, I am unable to do that. That is why I need the big $$$$$!

New friend here. Way back before phones were invented I lived in a college town. Sundays & Mondays we would dumpster dive and get 2 to 3 - 55 gallon bags full of cans and make some serious money. When college was over them kids threw alot away. TV's, VCR's, and various other items, can't mention them, and yeah. So cool on your outreach. Much love n Stay Safe. ✌️

That's crazy. That's new stuff being tossed when there are churches & non-profit organizations that donate items to people in need. 😮 I really didn't know ppl tossed stuff like that. I struggle to donate lightly used or items with tags just because I'd prefer it be donated to people in need as opposed to places like Salvation Army that resells, sometimes for high prices, considering it's a thrift store
The dumpsters in my city are padlocked. Store dumpsters have always been locked, but dumpster diving has gotten so out of control that residential dumpsters have to be locked now. If the owner/owners don't lock their dumpster and someone gets in and makes a mess, then the owner gets a ticket.
Pillows, blankets, and clothes are the only things that i don't think i could take back home with me unless it could fit into a dryer at the local LM to kill any bugs like bed bugs OR lice lol (if that would even kill them, idk)

I dont get why companies dont donate unused stuff to shelters, that would be some good pr and kindness. Not to mention the huge amount of stuff that would not be filling the dump.

Its technically legal in all 50 states. Though most stores will take action to stop you, including calling the police and having you trespassed. They do this because if you get injured they can be held liable. You should always look up your specific city and county ordinances though because they might have fines. Also be careful not to throw things onto the ground outside the dumpster while you search because they can hit you with a ticket for littering. Some stores, though rare, will actually do things to make it easier though. My first full time job was a Walmart and they used to leave the side access door on their massive dumpster open so people could just walk in and take the display models. But then the companies who give the display models demanded that the displays be destroyed before being put in the dumpster and that put an end to that.

Cuz they don't get the right tax write off when they donate. They get more of a write off when claim it as a loss.
