One of the neat things about the Jingle Disk was that it was green. It would always stand out in the disk cases/boxes because of its color when all other 5 1/4 disks were black.
@@SteveGuidi Indeed. They led to to searching for colored disk to categorize mine collection. YIKES!!!! They were about double the price of the black disks!
Hi Robin, this question goes out to you or anyone who might know, or in particular to those who worked in the stores back then. How did the program get into the C64. According to my knowledge they must have used tapes and a datasette. The floppy disk 1541 came a year later. It would have been possible to have a cartridge with the program, too. Does anybody know? Great videos and great channel! Thanks and Merry Christmas!!
@@syncrow76 As far as I know, the 1540 (which required a ROM upgrade for C64 use) and 1541 disk drives were available in 1982 along with the C64's arrival. Maybe you're thinking of the VIC-20 which had no disk drive available at launch? The Commodore Christmas Album (aka Demo) could have been saved on cassette as well though. It wasn't available on cartridge that I know of; bank switching to support large programs on the C64 didn't arrive until mid-1983's Magic Desk cartridge.
@@8_Bit Thanks for the info, so I was obviously totally wrong. The burning question ist: Was there a disk that came with the demo for the stores? What did it look like? Was it already spread with pirate copies (which I doubt very much due to the lack of copy programs and knowledge)?
it was so cool finally see your face! I must admit I imagined a bald guy with tufts of hair on the side and circle glasses (I guess kinda like Mr. Garrison from South Park). Tell your kids they did great jobs in the video, too!
Your son's reaction to you singing while sitting next to him on the couch is hilarious. It's a catchy song. Thanks for your hard work giving us so much great content over this past - sometimes difficult - year. Happy holidays and happy New Year.

Robin, please always trust your instincts - this was the most perfect Christmas video. I watched it with my wife on Christmas Eve and smiled the whole way through. The bass playing was beautiful. Thank you for being you and sharing so much of yourself. Don't ever change. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I don't know if it is my best Christmas C-64 memory, but I can report a recent one. I recently got a C-64 Maxi, and my daughter lit up when she saw it. We've spent hours recently playing Pitstop II, the Epyx Games collections, and other titles together. It makes me so happy to be able to share with her.
Heartwarming! Thank you so much for the music and the insight into your private life! And as always: great video in general! Its a pleasure to watch them! "Fröhliche Weihnachten!" from germany!
My family always hosted 20-30 people for Christmas in our basement. I used to set up my C64 in the corner and played the Christmas demo on repeat. I was so proud of it, and of myself! Of course it didn't last long. Either an adult turned it off or my cousins and I started playing Ghostbusters or some other game.
20:08 Hard enough playing those tiny piano keys, must be way harder with gloves on. :D 36:58 Yup, another year of challenge, but your videos make the year brighter -- looking forward to more in 2022. A very Merry Christmas to you Robin, and your family!
Every kid back in the day, myself included, loved to cuddle with their c64, I still do it today 😍 happy holidays to all of you and have a great time! Thank you for the great content Robin!
Perhaps I shouldn't at my age, but absolutely loved this, the retro/c64 equivalent of a UK Christmas variety show. I've found many of your videos very useful or inspiring, but this was just pure nostalgia. You and your family have a great Christmas, and looking forward to your 2022 c64 content.
One of the disks I ended up with during my Commodore 64 days (I no longer remember if it came with the rummage-sale 64C, my grandpa's collection, or the huge box of disks my friend gave me) was the John Henry Christmas carols. I don't think I ever had the patience to go through all of them in one sitting, but I'm planning to use it as a "yule log" this year on Christmas morning... in VICE on the laptop because I still can't figure out where I stashed the disk drives (and I suspect the disk is no longer in usable condition anyway after being in an uninsulated attic for ten years).
Wow, what gets me here, is what a wonderful fun dad you are to wonderful kids! As ever, a most enjoyable video. What I also see, is that you seem just as exited about these computers as you were in the day, and getting older has not stopped you having fun. Thanks Robin. And Happy Holida... no, MERRY CHRISTMAS! to you and your family. All the best for the new year :)
I used to love those commodore christmas music and graphics apps back in the day. This brought back some nice memories of Christmas 1985 for me. The SID sounds in this one were very impressive to me, first time I saw the Seasons Greetings from Commodore christmas demo, it was being run in a Canadian Tire in London Ontario, circa 1984. Canadian Tire, Zellers, and a few other stores in London stocked the Commodore 64, and had one of those glass cabinets that had a backlit glass Commodore branding. Visiting the Shrine at Canadian Tire was a ritual for me until the day I arrived at the Canadian Tire with my money in my hot little hands, and bought one.
You know what platform doesn't change and break all its software with programmed obsolescence? The Commodore 64! Thanks for sharing this video, it was a joy from start to finish. Merry Christmas to everyone here.
My Version said $595.00 in 1982 as I was saving for it! So $895.00 must have been Canadian! Nice to see some of it in action! Thanks and Happy New Year!
Thanks for reminding me of what 1983 Christmas was like for me. I too wanted a C64 Christmas and was over the moon to have gotten the computer and a disk drive. Bought the monitor in the summer with lawn mowing money. Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing!
Ash & Dave yeah lots of demos and some were amazing! Snowball Sunday was a early demo it was neat to see the text move across screen so smoothly! At the end the whole screen moves horizontal to the left and I do it and it looks sluggish! Cool Duo!
I always like to fire up my C64 for a bit of nostalgia at Christmastime, but I'm traveling this year and didn't get the opportunity. So thanks for sharing this wonderful offering! Your hard work is appreciated.
Wow, NICE, Robin Harbron! I especially liked your video with your kids, watching you play the uke and hearing your other instruments with it, along with the pro-style video editing! HAPPY CHRISTMAS! Mike Christensen
@ratspam Could you scan and upload that flyer to the C-64-wiki, please. Would be very interesting to see. By the way do you have any idea on which medium that demo was loaded into the first C64 in 1982. I guess it must have been from tape. Or did they have a cartrigde of it? Merry Christmas to you!
The Christmas demo ran continuously during the seasonal sales at Canadian Tire. We sold many 64s, 1541s, plus the Commodore printers & monitors, and even a couple of SX64s. At the time, we even rented out VHS & Beta tapes and the massive VCRs (including RF modulators) to play them with.
Cool, I bought my first C64 cartridge (Lazarian) and joystick (Slik Stik) at Canadian Tire. (I've probably mentioned that in some video). I had no idea CT rented out video tapes and players though! Do you know if that was Canada-wide? Seems like something they might get into in the smaller towns.
@@8_Bit I was at the Steeles location in Brampton 84/85-ish. I’m not sure if the video rentals done were at more stores; I think franchisees had some leeway. It was a popular place on Friday afternoons! Can’t remember how big the software selection for the 64s was. Only Commodore machines were sold there, though.
At our Thunder Bay store in mid-1984 they had all the C64 games and accessories (like joysticks) locked up in two glass cabinets. I circled around and chose the particular cartridge and joystick just based on what the boxes looked like, and the price :) I'm pretty sure it was the cheapest joystick they sold, but it was still pretty good; sturdy, anyway.
