Radical Design made right here in Holland 👍 There is also the Radical Design Cyclone. It's basicaly the same as the Chubby but longer and not so wide. The Radical Design Cyclone is a duffelbag on wheels. I use it for years and many miles and its very durable. Its handy for in the train were trailers are not allowed. Take of the wheels and you have a big bag you can take in the train together with your Brompton. The Chubby and the Cyclone, the best trailers. And last but not least, Radical makes every part themselves, so if one thing is damaged (the frame, the wheel, the bag, the dissel etc) they can send you always a spare part.

In 2 weeks I am going from Amsterdam to Vienna with the ICE (fasttrain) and take the trailer. From there I am going to jump into Eastern Europe and bike a bit. You just need the correct hitch fitted to the bike. Radical Design (the manufacturer of the Cyclone Chubby and Cyclone Trekking trailers) have different hitches for different sized bikes.
we bought a couple of Chubby trailers and went on a cycle tour of Andalucía a couple of years ago, flew British Airways from Gatwick to Seville no problems, great trailer!
Well Brian, with the newly purchased Brompton I just got (from FFB of course), I did a little practice packing this morning and within my Chubby trailer main compartment I can pack my folded Brompton, both trailer wheels, trailer front arm, and both axles and collars. In the top zipper compartment I can put my roll-top canvas bag. My T-bag can easily serve as a weekend bag. This all makes for a strong possibility for a Denver trip this summer. Going to start looking over travel and lodging options.
Only one thing missing from your video Brian. The batman-style WOW image on the screen at that moment when we all said wow together. The coupling to the Brompton frame & not the seat post (like many others) is another design plus!

Definitely the smartest trailer i’ve ever seen! Unfortunately too late ...... I just build myself one to be able to carry my 30kg 🐕 dog-and it even works on my birdy! But normally i pull that thing with my titanium randonneur,but for city commuting i more and more love the Birdy-I’m 191 cm tall,so the Birdy fits me better and it seems more stable than the Brompton. Also the gearing possibilities are better.So now i find myself digging in the web for tuning parts-easy wheels,better suspension for front and rear,and i will mount my old(but polished!) XTR 910 rear derailleur medium cage with BIG jockey wheels..... I have one of these trailers. I had to take one Brompton to have the rear wheel sorted earlier this afternoon. So I put the Brompton in the trailer and pulled it to the bike shop with my other one. No problem. The trailer is expensive but you get what you pay for. NB. I am just a user, don’t have any financial interest in this.
I find the multiple uses of their Chubby Cyclone trailer for Brompton to be very well designed, notably the possibility to move the wheels farther back in order to use it as a hand cart for shopping. But why is the main zipper opening in the back, instead of in the front, like in their Walking Trailers? If I want to put grocery store items in the trailer, I would have to zip the flap closed every time I add an item, or they will fall out of the back when I pull the trailer by hand. Wouldn't it be more conveniant for shopping to have the main zipper opening in the front of the Chubby trailer?
Thanks for sharing! All good points! How ever there are some issues to adress as well. 1.The wheels don't really fit in the top zipper. You have to deflate them to make them fit! However Radical Design in Holland can make you an extra Wheel bag for you that can be strapped on top of the cart to solve that problem. The trailer is also made for another small folding bike that have smaller tires... so thats why. And they also have a Wheel bag for those smaller wheels. You can also put the trailers wheels in the large Chubby compartment of course but then when handled at airport or whatever I can easily see that they will be damaged if not rapped up properly. An extra space especially for the wheels would at least make me more at rest. 2. If you use the trailer to shop grocery with, you will find that the zipper is at the bottom and you will have to unzip it every time to put something in the cart. Very annoying! Why didn't Radical Design not used a full size zipper all the way round? One good thing with all the zippers though is that you could put locks on them! 3. The carrying handle is a little bit on the weaker side. You can put 40 kg of the stuff in the trailer.... if so you would like the strap to have some extra seams to support that kind of weight if you ask me. They also sell an extra shoulder pad for an insanely 25 EUR extra. 4. Like any bag or backpack... why don't make the fabric water proof in the first place? If you want to strap gear on top of the trailer... how are you going to that that if you have the rain cover on? In my case I would like strap an extra bag and foldable solar panels... 5. The Quick-release axle with spacer made of rubber are one of a kind! Buy extras! Radical alos provide axles with a bolt what they call bombproof. At least buy some extra spacers! I 6. How ever a great trailer... Loving it! Stay safe and fair winds to you all! Happy trailing! 🇸🇪

Yes you are right in your assessment and I have not run into most of those issues yet, but so far so go with respect to the quality and performance. I definitely am making some extra padding for shipping the bike with checked luggage because I too get nervous with baggage handlers. I appreciate your input.
Well I'll tell you Brian. After investigating through a few other sources I have purchased a Chubby trailer through FFB. I opted for the slow boat to China shipping rate so I expect it should take about a week to arrive in Topeka. And while distance travel is a possibility, I'm looking forward to trying both in town and regional use as well.
You won’t be disappointed I am sure. This thing tracks much better than I thought it would. It’s perfect for travel and touring. I have another trailer I use for grocery hauling which I will discuss in an upcoming video. I really appreciate you buying from freedom... they really are good people and I want them to be around a long time, as they are knowledgeable and stock all the oddball Brompton parts that are so hard to get.

Nice one i have a cargo trailer for my ebike only a cheap one but I use it to carry my fishing tackle on my local waters . I must say don't know what I would do with out it now really like your content Brian
something like this makes me getting a Brompton even more likely especially as Brompton do an e-bike now. I have to have a bike which does more than just one thing to justify the price and if it can haul cargo as well then it makes it a far more useful bike.
I was hoping for a good solution to my cargo problem and this solves that problem for me. That’s why I got rid of my other bikes. I don’t need them anymore.

If you allow me to add my humble experience I love Brompton bike, It is amazing when you tour in the city, but it is difficult if you want to cycle and travel from city to city. However it depends on the geographical location for example in 2019 I had a touring around UK approx 1500 km but I did not use a Brompton bike because UK is a hilly country, on the other hand I used Brompton bike when I had a touring in Singapore it was amazing. Because Singapore is almost flat. What I wanna say that Brompton has max 6 speeds and can't carry enough weight for traveling except if you are strong enough lol
Well I use my Brompton for all manner of bicycle excursions and I find it surprisingly adequate. I plan to travel a lot as soon as this pandemic dies down.....if it ever dies down🤔. Thanks for watching and thanks for your insight.
Great video. I have tried both the Cyclone Chubby and the original Cyclone Trekking trailer. The advantage of the Chubby is for travel by air or for towing a second Brompton. The Trekking trailer is narrower (and longer - it has identical load capacity) and so fits behind the bike following its track. This is safer and more convenient in narrow places eg squeezing through town traffic or navigating fixed obstacles. The zip around it’s top makes it easier to fill with shopping. Lastly, and crucially for us here, the Trekking trailer fits through our front door and into our kitchen to unload. The Chubby was too wide for that. So I returned the Chubby and bought the (£50 cheaper) Trekking trailer from Radical Design (who btw are a delight to deal with).
Have a look on TH-cam at Brompton traveler. He's got a great system. This is the long-term system for me , traveling east Asia, India,and central American. Hope this inspires you, great video (subscriber uk), keep them coming 👍
Yes, the Brompton traveller is amazing, love his material and music he puts to it. We used his system while on holiday in the Netherlands, it worked very well. However having a system that helps you transport your Brompton AND turn into a trailer is amazing. I think on very difficult terrain you could simply put the trailer on the rear carrier as the Brompton traveller does with his backpack.
does it come with a sunshade? id buy this trailer to tour with my dog if it does. so many features that take care of so many issues while travelling by bike. love it!
Can you show the internal steel frame? Very curious to see how if protects the brompton in the travel scenario more like a soft sided bag or more like a hard sided bag. I found an 8 year old video off radical designs youtube channel that has the bag packed flat suggesting soft sides but didn't want to assume the design stayed the same. This is a really awesome trailer, glad you answered the Travoy question halfway through the video too.

That is the best bike trailer I have ever seen. I have looked at a lot of trailers and nothing comes close to the functionality of the Chubby. The price is completely justified on many levels. If you own a Brompton you shouldn't get sticker shock easily ;)

I fold my bike up and bring it inside and put it in a buggy. Then I fold the trailer up and put it on the rack underneath my buggy. I am going to get a cheap folder soon to go grocery shopping with, this way I can leave it locked up outside, bringing the burley inside without worry.

Very impressed with the Chubby but can you use it as a check in luggage to protect the Brommy? Is there room to pack the trailer with clothes for added protection? That would really make it insanely functional !!
I am told they let you check the whole trailer as luggage, and yes you define can fit cloths and cushion in the trailer with the bike for added protection. That definitely works.
thanks very interesting and full review - was looking for some options and this is very compelling. In particular the fact it can hold the bike itself for traveling - or even storage... had been looking at the Burley Travoy which also has some interesting functionality and options but the Travoy does not look very sturdy.
The burley Travoy doesn’t seem too stable to me. It looks as if it would be a good slow get around the neighborhood with the picnic stuff trailer, but for touring or going down hill fast around curves (not so much). I had a trailer like that-it attached to the seat post and every time I went around a corner at moderate speed it would flip.

Just checked out the radical design website, interesting company that looks very committed the quality of their products. Any ideals on anti-theft? This trailer is great, I've owned one for a long time and now I bought the same model again. The only thing that's a bit hard is security. My first trailer was stolen from my basement, for the second one I've added a movement alarm from Abus. It's okay but maybe there are better solutions?
Can't believe the presentation did not OPEN the trailer to show how the folded Brompton and trailer wheels fit and how much space is left (e.g. for clothes, sleeping bag etc). Better preparation next time!
@@roberthonan708 Radical Design will ship the Chubby trailer worldwide for a mere 15 euros. Unfortunately, they don't remove the VAT (Value Added Tax) which would reduce the cost significantly.
Outstanding video Brian. The Chubby trailer could be just what I am looking for, for my not too extreme bikerafting activities. It has the potential to carry my rolled up waterstrider inflatable raft when pedalling to or from my fishing destination. And carrying my folded up Brommy in it while rafting and fishing! An excellent bit of kit. Any idea what the towball download weight would be carrying 15 kilos of raft in the trailer bag? Keep em coming mate!
Cool product! Wondering whether I can use this trailer on my Brompton, but also switch over to using my twin kid trailer using the same convenient hitch. (I‘ve got the Burley D‘Lite X Double.) Great that the other way around - i.e. using the Radical Designs trailer on a full-size bike - is possible! So I‘m assuming the hitch used can be mounted on both standard bikes and Bromptons? That would be fantastic! Then I could switch back and forth between bikes and use either the Burley (with kids) or the Radical Design (when off bikepacking or on my way to a backpacking trail without kids.
Can this also be used to recycle your cans for cash as a recycling business joint and can this also wholesome groceries in in and can this be folded up and put underneath the bed out of the way or in the closet in the apartment life just wondering and I do like that neon yellow tarp on top of that
I think so, I love pulling this thing. The burley trailer isn’t designed for the Brompton and the chubby is. This makes the bike/trailer interaction seem less and gives the rider a pleasant riding experience.
@@ibikeunfolded The radical design company has 2 good designs, but for brompton bikes, for folding bikes, there are many other manufacturers. The model of your video is focused for travel, to transport and take on the train, plane, inside the car, when you take it apart. If you want to carry cargo with a folding bicycle, the Burley company has very good models. I have the D´Lite 2018 model and I am very happy about it. By the way, the Burley model, you can also take it apart, you can fold it to take on any means of transport. So do the other Burley models.

The Chubby trailer certainly solves a lot of the problems you encounter when traveling and having to lug the Brompton (plus luggage) a long way through airports and train stations.
The Dutch made Chubby is far and away the best trailer for a Brompton. Yeah, it is expensive, unfortunately. For those of us in the UK, it became much more expensive after the madness that was Brexit came into effect. So, I'm interested. How much is it in the States...? ... in case buying it from there makes more sense ???
You can order it directly from the manufacturer, but I recommend supporting your local bike shop. The manufacturer still gets their money, but if we don’t support Brompton bicycle shops, then they go away. I rather like have one around when I need something or have questions.
Could anybody buy one of these Bike Trailers without having to buy one of those Folding E-Bikes as well? I do like the Bike Trailer but it's a bit Small but it's a really nice Bike Trailer.

Actually the T-Bag is a rather amazing carrying device with a 30-L capacity and external slots, a zippered slot, and a liquid sleeve. Give it a look.
during 2018 we did a cycle tour of Andalusia with this trailer, British Airways just treated it as an oversize suitcase without charging extra.
It is a great trailer system. Like the Brompton, the functionality and versatility makes you forget the price tag as soon as you start using it.

Blue Yonder pulling it back from boulder I thought It would affect the handling, but surprisingly it did not affect it at all. It tracked nice.

something like this makes me getting a Brompton even more likely especially as Brompton do an e-bike now. I have to have a bike which does more than just one thing to justify the price and if it can haul cargo as well then it makes it a far more useful bike.
I was hoping for a good solution to my cargo problem and this solves that problem for me. That’s why I got rid of my other bikes. I don’t need them anymore.

I love Brompton bike, It is amazing when you tour in the city, but it is difficult if you want to cycle and travel from city to city. However it depends on the geographical location for example in 2019 I had a touring around UK approx 1500 km but I did not use a Brompton bike because UK is a hilly country, on the other hand I used Brompton bike when I had a touring in Singapore it was amazing. Because Singapore is almost flat.
What I wanna say that Brompton has max 6 speeds and can't carry enough weight for traveling except if you are strong enough lol

Great video. I have tried both the Cyclone Chubby and the original Cyclone Trekking trailer. The advantage of the Chubby is for travel by air or for towing a second Brompton. The Trekking trailer is narrower (and longer - it has identical load capacity) and so fits behind the bike following its track. This is safer and more convenient in narrow places eg squeezing through town traffic or navigating fixed obstacles. The zip around it’s top makes it easier to fill with shopping. Lastly, and crucially for us here, the Trekking trailer fits through our front door and into our kitchen to unload. The Chubby was too wide for that. So I returned the Chubby and bought the (£50 cheaper) Trekking trailer from Radical Design (who btw are a delight to deal with).
I got the chubby for travel and touring specifically. I got another trailer for grocery shopping which I will discuss in a separate video.

Yes, the Brompton traveller is amazing, love his material and music he puts to it. We used his system while on holiday in the Netherlands, it worked very well. However having a system that helps you transport your Brompton AND turn into a trailer is amazing. I think on very difficult terrain you could simply put the trailer on the rear carrier as the Brompton traveller does with his backpack.
@@stevem3439 Possibly, but keep in mind, Brompies do have recommended weight bearing parameters. I wonder about that with the trailer too?
does it come with a sunshade? id buy this trailer to tour with my dog if it does. so many features that take care of so many issues while travelling by bike. love it!
Can you show the internal steel frame? Very curious to see how if protects the brompton in the travel scenario more like a soft sided bag or more like a hard sided bag. I found an 8 year old video off radical designs youtube channel that has the bag packed flat suggesting soft sides but didn't want to assume the design stayed the same. This is a really awesome trailer, glad you answered the Travoy question halfway through the video too.

That is the best bike trailer I have ever seen. I have looked at a lot of trailers and nothing comes close to the functionality of the Chubby. The price is completely justified on many levels. If you own a Brompton you shouldn't get sticker shock easily ;)

I fold my bike up and bring it inside and put it in a buggy. Then I fold the trailer up and put it on the rack underneath my buggy. I am going to get a cheap folder soon to go grocery shopping with, this way I can leave it locked up outside, bringing the burley inside without worry.

Very impressed with the Chubby but can you use it as a check in luggage to protect the Brommy? Is there room to pack the trailer with clothes for added protection? That would really make it insanely functional !!
I am told they let you check the whole trailer as luggage, and yes you define can fit cloths and cushion in the trailer with the bike for added protection. That definitely works.
thanks very interesting and full review - was looking for some options and this is very compelling. In particular the fact it can hold the bike itself for traveling - or even storage... had been looking at the Burley Travoy which also has some interesting functionality and options but the Travoy does not look very sturdy.
The burley Travoy doesn’t seem too stable to me. It looks as if it would be a good slow get around the neighborhood with the picnic stuff trailer, but for touring or going down hill fast around curves (not so much). I had a trailer like that-it attached to the seat post and every time I went around a corner at moderate speed it would flip.

I find that this trailer is good for longer tours. The burley Travoy is better for hauling things to and fro on campus or around town.
Any ideals on anti-theft? This trailer is great, I've owned one for a long time and now I bought the same model again. The only thing that's a bit hard is security. My first trailer was stolen from my basement, for the second one I've added a movement alarm from Abus. It's okay but maybe there are better solutions?

Lots of people are using Airtags.
If the Air tag is missing, your trailer is gone.
Can't believe the presentation did not OPEN the trailer to show how the folded Brompton and trailer wheels fit and how much space is left (e.g. for clothes, sleeping bag etc). Better preparation next time!

Outstanding video Brian. The Chubby trailer could be just what I am looking for, for my not too extreme bikerafting activities. It has the potential to carry my rolled up waterstrider inflatable raft when pedalling to or from my fishing destination. And carrying my folded up Brommy in it while rafting and fishing! An excellent bit of kit. Any idea what the towball download weight would be carrying 15 kilos of raft in the trailer bag? Keep em coming mate!

Cool product! Wondering whether I can use this trailer on my Brompton, but also switch over to using my twin kid trailer using the same convenient hitch. (I‘ve got the Burley D‘Lite X Double.) Great that the other way around - i.e. using the Radical Designs trailer on a full-size bike - is possible! So I‘m assuming the hitch used can be mounted on both standard bikes and Bromptons? That would be fantastic! Then I could switch back and forth between bikes and use either the Burley (with kids) or the Radical Design (when off bikepacking or on my way to a backpacking trail without kids.
Wheels look a bit too exposed to damage on air travel if they pile other bags on top .

It would work, but the burly trailer works for hauling odd ball shaped items. I use this trailer for touring and camping.

I think so, I love pulling this thing. The burley trailer isn’t designed for the Brompton and the chubby is. This makes the bike/trailer interaction seem less and gives the rider a pleasant riding experience.

The radical design company has 2 good designs, but for brompton bikes, for folding bikes, there are many other manufacturers. The model of your video is focused for travel, to transport and take on the train, plane, inside the car, when you take it apart. If you want to carry cargo with a folding bicycle, the Burley company has very good models. I have the D´Lite 2018 model and I am very happy about it. By the way, the Burley model, you can also take it apart, you can fold it to take on any means of transport. So do the other Burley models.

The Chubby trailer certainly solves a lot of the problems you encounter when traveling and having to lug the Brompton (plus luggage) a long way through airports and train stations.

Airlines might not let you take your battery with you, so that'll probably reduce the utility of being able to use it as an airline bag.

The Dutch made Chubby is far and away the best trailer for a Brompton. Yeah, it is expensive, unfortunately. For those of us in the UK, it became much more expensive after the madness that was Brexit came into effect. So, I'm interested. How much is it in the States...?

You can order it directly from the manufacturer, but I recommend supporting your local bike shop. The manufacturer still gets their money, but if we don’t support Brompton bicycle shops, then they go away. I rather like have one around when I need something or have questions.
