Thank you for that video :) I majored in Chinese two years ago, and since COVID happened I couldn't carry on a master degree, so I kind of gave up studying Chinese for a while but now I'm getting back on track. Chengyu were ones of the trickiest things I met upon my studies ahah (and also 古文 class). I just wanted to say thank you for adding example sentences, it shows us how we can actually use the chengyu. At the university, what I've learnt is that learning a Chinese word isn't useful until you know how to properly use it and put it in the right place in your sentence, so now thanks to your video I can see how certain chengyu are mostly used as adverbs with 地 or used as adjectives or with the 是...的 structure ! Good content! But I personally wouldn't ever include timed offers in a TH-cam video. Links to Patreon are great, but since TH-cam is forever (i.e. we use it to look up old content ALL THE TIME), times offers really degrade the value of the video once the offer expires, and detract from the overall experience.
I think the expression is 更何况 (and not 跟何况). In English, this is usually expressed as "let alone" or "not to mention", which is then followed by a phrase whose meaning was already included in a previous phrase, but is mentioned again anyways. A typical example could be: 连大人都不能开这辆车，更何况小孩子。 "Even adults cannot drive this car, not to mention small children" If adults cannot drive this car, then we need not mention that small children also cannot do this, but we mention it anyways. (In the English sentence, "not to mention" could be replaced with "let alone".)
總是 can be either positive or negative , depending on the context but only used with adjectives. Positive - 他總是待人和善。(He is always friendly to others.) Negative - 你不要總是這麼粗魯。(Stop always being so rude.) 老是 is more negative and only used with a verb。 你老是犯錯。（He always makes mistakes.) 一直 described consistency in behavior, movement…e.t.c. Mostly, it is used with a verb. 這輛車一直前進。(The car keeps moving forward.) 不要一直煩我。（Stop annoying me.) 一向 described consistency in attitude or behavior. It is used with a verb or an adjective。 這小孩一向喜歡玩耍。（The child always likes to play.) 這裡的警察先生一向非常粗魯。（The police officer here is always so rude.) There are other ways to say”always”. For example, “一如既往”。 他一如既往地上下班。（He commutes to work as always.) 他一如既往的難搞。（He is hard to be pleased as always.) Note that if you use an adjective, it should be 一如既往”的”. On the other hand, if it is a verb that follows, it should be 一如既往”地”. This principle is universal in using adverb before either a verb or an adjective. Hope this is helpful for you. :)
How common are these used in everyday life though? I never heard of any of these... my parents (who are born in Taiwan, 70 years old now), never used these either, to my knowledge.
I‘m no teacher, but what I've noticed is this: Wordier=emphasis. It's almost like a golden rule. I know, because even some of my Chinese speaking friends will randomly use a word I perceive as "formal" to drive home an otherwise "normal" idea. My advice is check online dictionaries for context!
For me, using 实话实说 feels more natural in some circumstances such as 那我就实话实说了, but yeah it does feel a bit extra although it's only one extra character lol

I like to think of this sentence as: 他对公司的贡献是(一种)有目共睹的(贡献) The thing is that 有目共睹 is an adjective, meaning "obvious". But 是 cannot be followed by an adjective. It must be followed by a noun, or noun phrase. Such as: 有目共睹的贡献 ("obvious contribution"). But, since 贡献 was mentioned earlier, it can be omitted. However, 的 must be retained. A simple example of this very common structure would be: 我的猫是黑色的 ("my cat is black") The meaning is the same as: 我的猫是一只黑色的猫. However, 一只, and the 猫 at the end are usually omitted.
As a beginner learning Chinese or trying to I should say, it's so frustrating learning that one Chinese word has a million different meanings. I learned that yi means the number 1, but in this video I see you use this word never meaning the number 1..... When I read the pinyin in the video I recognize some words but it seems most of the time they don't have the same meaning compared to what I'm learning. Frustrating.....

I just wanted to say thank you for adding example sentences, it shows us how we can actually use the chengyu. 小時候甲乙本、圈詞本不知道花了寫幾百個小時在練習，聽寫和段考還是錯得一塌糊塗
到了國高中側重的就是枯燥乏味的國學常識和文言文
文言文和現代白話文大相徑庭，所用文字也變得更加生僻
艱澀難懂之餘更殘忍的是還得死記硬背那些古文古詩

I think there is also 不停地 ("non-stop"). And, as an idiom, I have heard 没完没了 ("on-and-on", "endlessly").
總是 can be either positive or negative , depending on the context but only used with adjectives.

As a beginner learning Chinese or trying to I should say, it's so frustrating learning that one Chinese word has a million different meanings. I learned that yi means the number 1, but in this video I see you use this word never meaning the number 1..... When I read the pinyin in the video I recognize some words but it seems most of the time they don't have the same meaning compared to what I'm learning. Frustrating.....
