It is full of hilariously slightly off translations, but one phrase that really puzzled me today was "Better is it that you should not now, than that you should now and not pay" 与其许愿而不兑现， 还不如不许愿。The Chinese side appears to be saying something to the effect of it is better to promise something and not to deliver, than to lose face by not promising something?

@@robinsonner5461 I think there are some words that are quite similar but actually there is a lot of differences when it comes to sound! I grew up learning more Chaozhounese than Cantonese so I tend to mix both languages. 😅
About 很 , while I was studying in 辽宁 many years before, I learnt using 贼 as an adverb (for example: 贼冷 , wich is so true in the Northeast by the way!); but I think is a kind of local slang...

should be okay if it is a modern one and not a historical one :D that could be weird picking up words and sentences from there xD
You just have to be careful with historical dramas. It would be the same as learning English from Lord of the Rings etc./larping talk.
