Michael Edwards doesn't need to settle in....he's been here before. He knows the ropes, he knows the club.
He just basically tell us about media rumour. I never seen any accurate transfer information here.
Gakpo didn't have a tough season last year at all. He scored what 16 goals? 7 or 7 assists? All while playing out of position. The only reason he hasn't thrived so far is that Klopp preferred a runner (Diaz) on the left. Whenever Gakpo has had a run at LW, he's been brilliant. I'll never understand fans of ours who argue differently.
It's extremely evident how accomplished he is at finishing, along with having top-class technical ability and composure that not a lot of forwards have.
If he's our main LW this season, he'll break 25 goals and maybe 15 assists imo.
The same fan base went from calling Szoboszlai the best midfielder in the league to claiming he isn't even good enough for us anymore as soon as his form faded. Fans have a talent for dramatics and a short memory. Gakpo has been very good for us, especially considering the factors you mentioned.
@@shiiiiiiiiiiiizzzzzzzzz 100%! I honestly don't understand how some of our fans think the way they do. For a start, the reason Szoboszlai tailed off, is the way Klopp was using him! Similar to Gakpo, Klopp tried to mould them both into different roles to fit his rigid system, rather than playing to their strengths. Obviously Klopp done it successfully, but it hurt a few players.
Your point about Szobo. Think back to his first 10 games. The key to how well and how free he was playing, was that he didn't fully understand his role in midfield. He was playing purely on instinct rather than being too rigid. Klopp said it himself many times in that period, "he's a very good player but he doesn't quite understand what we ask of him yet."
As soon as he started to understand what Klopp wanted from him, the freedom and expressive way of playing came straight out of his game. Klopp basically tried to turn him into Henderson, when a player like Szobo is so much more than that. He done the same to Gini Wijnaldhum when he came in. Gini was an attacking midfielder/forward at Newcastle, very similar to Szobo. Then he turned him into a more conservative, ball holding midfielder. I don't believe Szobo has the right skillset to play that position. I'm hoping that Slot allows him a bit freedom in the new system to show what he's all about (how he played when he didn't know our system first few games).
The point is proven further when he plays for Hungary. He isn't suppressed to a rigid position, therefore his ability is allowed to flourish because he's given the freedom to do so.
@@stuart_edward I also believe people ignore how young he is still and the fact it was his first season in the prem. It's obvious the step up in intensity had an impact on him. I remember hearing he exceeded his highest minutes played in a single season mark in Feb (I can't remember the source). He was over used at the start of the season as he became Klopp's go to man when the midfield was struggling.
You must of watched the motd highlights all season, try watching him play and you will realise he wasn’t good till the last quarter of the season.

No 6 role is much needed and priority, ugarte or Ederson would be a good addition to the squad.

He won't have the same run of the club as Klopp did. I think if he wants a player it will go to a committee to decide if he can put in a bid. He will have to work with what he is given.

If we keep them both then play Gakpo on left not his makeshift forward position. Luis sub fighting for his place and it will cause major competition on the left. Gakpo is perfectly fine to play up front but we bought a goal scoring winger who stood in for ST with Netherlands before we signed him. On the left he thinks less and plays his natural game imo. What the lad is really good at tho which isn't flash or fancy so goes unnoticed his his positioning for tap ins. For us / psv / NL he has scored so many simple goals due to being in the right place (its important) yet we look more at the wild boys like Nunez or Luis screamers. Don't get me wrong he scores really nice goals to but tap ins dont get noticed and thats why he has more goals than people think at the end of the season. If only he did so no look tap ins lmao. You think about it there is no point having a lovely team move to setup a goal but the guy on the end is never quite in the right place to finish it and tbh its been a problem at times last season.
Totally agree with Craig, FSG have done great things, the ground upgrade, the training centre, but spending on players is for a club of our stature is nothing short as embarrassing, over seven years our net spend was just £40 million, and in our big rebuild there were FIVE clubs who spent more than us, how many academy players do you believe will play in league games this season, for Arsenal, last year we used SEVEN academy players, if we do similar this season then top four will be a successful season.

If a new signing of Williams goes through, and he's on 250-300k then surely Trent Virg and Mo will want more money on their deals, if new contracts are presented to them, so that pool of wage money changes drastic like 🤷
Your opinion on Jones is so off, mate. You yourself were the one saying you were wrong on him just before he was injured. You literally said, "I'm glad Jones proved me wrong" with his performances. You're falling for a bit of recency bias, still frustrated at his last few performances after the injury. Remember the plaudits he was getting, putting in motm performances.
He was good enough to keep Elliott, Gravenberch, and Szoboszlai out of the team when he had rhythm. Remember that.
Jones is a top championship player, does anyone believe he would get into City, Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea or Spurs squads, not a chance, only reason he is with us is he is a scouser.

The media had been doing this with Liverpool since FSG came in... I'm not saying they are to blame but there used to b a lot more control of transfer stories B4 FSG.
