I have a very simple plan in mind... the goal is also simple, to become fit again. I've neglected my fitness but now it's time to do something about it. I've overcome addiction in the past and that took some serious determination so I am sure I can stick to this simple plan. Just do some sort of physical exercise every day... some days it won't be pretty, it may just be walk, but it's important to keep that body moving.

It’s easy to say you swapped one addiction for another addiction, and beat yourself up , but maybe look at it as you’ve swapped one bad habit for a great habit . If something makes you happy and leaves you fitter , it can’t be bad for you as long as other parts of your life doesn’t suffer for it (job, relationship etc). You’ve created a TH-cam channel out of it . Beer wasn’t going to give you that !!! Cycling has been a huge benefit for you . See it as a blessing . It’s not an addiction. ❤

On another note - I have no tattoos at all but your work is true art, keep it going we're all behind you.

In 2018 I recorded something on Strava every day… by the end of the first month… the tally 31/365 became a habit I didn’t want to break and even went on the turbo trainer in the Keller at 11pm after a business trip, just to keep it going…
I really cut down on alcohol (an alkoholfrei bier is only 15calories) and ate salads everyday… but I agree with you that is only part of it… I was also going to gym 3x per week and a club ride of ~85km on the weekends…
I lost 20 kg over that year… 5 years later, I have put most of that back on, but food and drink habits are the same. I need to get back to the “doing something” everyday as you said at ~7’50”.

Well done on the "dry" phase Thomas. Used to think Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" was a "rebellious" "lively number" !
It's not until you closely read the lyrics ! :(
Ask Pasta de Maria's if they do wholegrain pasta ! :)
No need for a stuffy room full of "Gymtimidation", you're in a sunshine zone, outdoor press-ups, few dips, few pull-ups on the monkey bar in the back garden, sorted :) 💪

I took up cycling after giving up a 20 a day, 20 year smoking habit and it’s changed my life. I completely identify with your desire to do something every day, I have a 20 minute TH-cam workout playlist that I use for those really busy days when time is hard to come by and that works really well. Oh, and I hated running too but once I ditched music for audiobooks my opinion completely changed, Cav’s autobiography narrated by the man himself was quite inspirational!

I usually dislike to even spend time in the comment sections of youtube for obvious reasons but i had to comment on this after you said you want to do SOME sort of physical activity every day.
Since you have a dog and you have to walk that dog every day, i can TOTALLY recommend rucking to you. Its the most convinient form of whole body strengh and endurance excersise there is. Ive been doing it for many years now and its become my go to because its just so convinient and so multifunctional. Basically just load up a backpack as ergonomically as possible (means; the weights should be as close to your back and and as far up as possible) with some weights (start slow, and never go above 30% of your total bodyweight) and start walking. It increases balance, endurance (its low impact on your joints), it increases bone density, trains literally every muscle from neck to toe and all you have to do is do what you have to do anyway, and thats walking! Additionally, what i do is, when i ruck i add some bodyweight excersieses like squats, lunges, suitcase carries and push ups (or other excersises like shoulder carries, bear hugs and so on) to my walk and it becomes the most convinient and functional workout you can do when walking a dog (id also argue, its the most functional and primal form of excerise there is). I feel like a tank ever since i started rucking because of the stability and the bone density increase. Recently i had a bike crash where i crashed with my entire left side at some speed between 30-40kmh against the pavement and i didnt break a single bone. That just speaks for itself.
You go glen coco, im sure you got a backpack at home and some water bottles or books or dumbell weights.
And you have zero excuses to not do it because you have to walk your dog anyway, so no chance of postponing.

When i said don't be frightened to say no it's probably no what you think.
We like in a funny world where many people are desperate to fit in and be liked. Many think they're in the wrong for saying no. Many wont say no in case it upsets someone. We now live in a world where feelings come before facts. If you don't like something then say no. Many simply go with the flow simply to please others whilst leaving themselves disgruntled. Shame we tend to adopt these ways when we're older. Hope all is well dude and press on.
      PS..

you've moved to paradise but you don't have your social ride groups you used to ride with in the uk, so not as easy to stay motivated. There's no use riding for no reason, yes we have health and fitness to consider beyond that I'd say you need to target a few fondo events (so close to you alps, dolomites) aiming ultimately for the marmotte etc, that will also provide you with great cycling content as there's only so much solo riding videos you can do - people watch to be motivated or entertained I think that needs to be interwoven with some goals. Put up some plan ideas see what your audience thinks. Just a suggestion.

Never use extendable leash for your dog! It looks very "comfortable" but in reality may end up very bad for the dog walker. In particular with the larger and heavier dog. My friend's mother had accident, while walking her dog. She was releasing a leash, when it finally it stopped and her arm got dislocated and she was taken to hospital. It took her over a year to recover.
