Thanks Dave - she is fine! My thumb took the worst of it. It doesn’t seem to have fazed her - she still goes wild playing with other dogs when I take her to the park.
@@brighteng7938 Thanks! I think the key is having it under bright lights and quite close to them really allows the light to get everywhere. This one actually sits on the edge of a shelf and so it only gets hit with intense light on one side, so I regularly rotate it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting and welcome to the channel my new friend! 🙏❤️🌲
I'm glad to hear that Mabel is apparently ok, that is not a situation that would have me so calm when talking about it. This is a sloppy transition, but, have you seen the Portulacaria afra Snowfall? I found it at Home Depot, it looks like a variegated Lilliput with smaller leaves. I picked up a 2-inch pot, unfortunately there were only two pots there.
I did see a plant that sounds like what you describe! They had one that was in bad shape and I passed on it, but I now must find one! 🤣. Super super tiny leaves. I saw mine in Seattle - where are you based? I am wondering if this is a new variety.
@@CoffeeandBonsaiwithTom I am in Maryland, the other side of the country LOL I'll have to go look at the other stores here, there must be 10 HD's in a 20-mile circle. There are too many people here.
Looks fabulous. I agree that the pot is a bit deep but does give the roots room to thrive while still a work in progress. Do you grow moss in any of your compositions?
Great question! I wish that I I could grow moss. I get some in the early spring but my soil is too dry to maintain it for long, so by summer it is all dried up. Indoors it’s just not humid enough to maintain it either. I get some going in my unheated basement grow area, but those are all crassula and, once again, as soon as I put them outside, the moss dies. I have experimented with using sedum and other mini succulents to take the place of moss, but have not found something yet that I like. Thanks for the great questions. Nigel gets moss on his, but I think that is at least partially due to having a humid greenhouse. Someday!! 🤣
@ I have several beautiful varieties of moss growing around me. Just started growing them in my screen room. Not sure if I should put them on the bonsai. My favorite so far looks like a soft thick fur. Will be interesting to see if it grows on the bonsai.
@ Great Idea! You’re in Seattle moss basically grows on anything I mean, I’ve even seen it on cars! It’s just so moist and so cool it thrives. When I had mostly deciduous and evergreen trees, I always had thick luscious moss on them which really makes a huge difference. I mean, it really makes a bonsai pop. Best of luck with your moss!!
Does the 70% alcohol work on 'White Fly' also...I get it knocked down and it shows up somewhere else which is causing me to rethink having an indoor work area...This composition looks good but seems a 'little' over-whelmed? Always enjoy your content and remember, Its a jungle out there...TFS...
70% alcohol will kill white fly adults...your problem is probably that the soil has larvae and eggs that are hatching days later. Neem oil sprayed on the surface or diatomaceous earth on the surface of the soil will kill off newly hatched white fly.....you have to be diligent with the process to stop the life cycle
I’ve found it kills whatever I spray it on, but if there are eggs or if they are in the soil, then it will not get them. Diligence is key! 🤣 In agree the forest is a bit thick and plan to thin it out once the trees develop some thickness and character. Thanks for the compliment and always appreciate your great comments and questions. And, yeah, it is a jungle out there interspersed with areas of our paradise! 🙏❤️🌲🤣
Poor Mable, hope she's okay...Did you go get the chance to verify that the aggressor dog had current Rabies vaccine tags? Happens sometimes...Hope your thumb and psyche recover soon...Makes you want to carry a stun-gun in your back pocket, Neh? Wink, wink, nod, nod...
Yeah, I did report it and in those cases they want to keep the dog quarantine at home for 10 days. But I didn’t have the contact information of the owner. I just wanted to get the hell out of there. So what they do instead is patrol the area every day for a week which sadly is a lot of extra work for the animal control people. They said the odds of rabies are extremely small, but gave me some things to watch out for. The dog was extremely healthy looking and friendly to people just not other dogs apparently. The thumb did get infected, but it’s fine now. And I have ordered what they call a job bar I think? It’s basically almost like a ruler that allows you to slip it into their mouth and then you can easily turn it and have them open their mouth. So I will be adding that to the stuff I take on our walks. I have a friend whose manages a lot of dogs and she told me that best thing to do is to just grab the aggressive dog by the back legs and pick it up and it will immediately open its mouth and release whatever it has. I took a much more hands-on approach! 🤣

@ @n8tyler I think you’ve got an excellent point there! We were extremely lucky that the dog wasn’t aggressive to people. Not sure how that would have turned out, but not good. I didn’t realize they were so easy to get and inexpensive. It seems like the most humane option - no permanent damage.

They make great forests and so easy to propagate and add more!! 🤣
