- In 1900, Kalamazoo was the celery capital of the world! The nearby “mucklands” are perfect for growing celery! In the second half of the 1800s, Kalamazoo was known as paper city. The Bryant Paper Company here in Kalamazoo became the largest Michigan manufacturer of book paper. And by World War II, a score of local mills made Kalamazoo the largest paper producer in the nation.

I was born and raised in Bavaria, Germany until age 12. Spent the next 56 years in San Diego. Moved here 8 years ago to be near my grandson. I love it here. Reminds me of my native Germany.
The people of Kalamazoo are amazing. Hands down, it's a great place to live and work.
So born and raised in the zoo. And I must say this was a fun watch glad to see the good side of this city sometimes
I studied at WMU in Kalamazoo in the early 90s and as a young person (and poor student) then, I didn't appreciate the finer things that the city offered. I live overseas now and I wish I could go back to K-zoo to visit the museums and places featured here!

I was born and raised in Kzoo but I’ve been living in the Washington DC area for 21 years now. I still miss home sometimes. Love seeing videos like this highlighting our great city! Kalamazoo will always be home to me 🥰
I graduated from WMU 17 years ago and have very fond memories of my time in Kalamazoo. I left Kzoo (and Michigan) for the West Coast when I finished school and haven't been back since, but miss it at times.

As a resident of the city of Kalamazoo, Michigan, I have to advise you that the city has been reducing the number of car lanes on the major routes to and thru the downtown area. My experience has been less traffic volume and more backups during prime-time travel. Four lanes of traffic in many locations have been reduced to 2 lanes and greater travel time. I have found it better to go thru residential areas and avoid the traffic backup, especially morning and evening rush hours. My personal travel time during the daytime hours has increased an estimated 15% in the affected areas. While curbside parking spaces may be a bonus, just limit yourself to avoiding downtown unless you just can't avoid having to be there. My viewpoint and observations

Kalamazoo-Portage is basically one city. Portage is the suburban part and Kalamazoo the urban part.
