My father was born in the Homestead Hotel in 1926, and my grandparents ran it. Later on, Bill Zuber bought the hotel and had a restaurant there for years.
John and his team really captured the magic of Amana in this episode. I lived in Cedar Rapids for two years with my wife, from 2020-2022. Amana was our refuge during the pandemic. It’s also home to Iowa’s oldest micro brewery, Millstream. The amber is fantastic!
I really enjoyed this.
I have family in Mount Vernon, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. We often take a visit to the colonies.

There used to be an old blind man who did the caning years and years ago.
We made a road trip there several years ago. BIG disappointment. Half the places and museums were closed.
You have to go in the right season and on the right days. There's a website and app where you can see when things are open.
