  • Great Wall Motors has officially unveiled its new motorcycle brand Souo S2000 luxury tourer.
This new Chinese motorcycle will compete with Honda Gold Wing and BMW K1600 as well as Indian Pursuit and Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited.
This touring bike is equipped with the world's only horizontally opposed eight-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2000 cc.
Power figures have not yet been disclosed, but the engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The developers have stated that the use of this transmission technology will provide the driver with smoother and faster gear changes.
It should be noted that flat engines are preferred in large motorcycles because they maintain a low center of gravity and offer better stability.
Great Wall Motors has equipped the S2000 with the world's first three-layer stepped front suspension, which also has a multi-stage adjustable electronic shock absorber.
The frame is constructed of cast aluminum without any screws, very similar to the Honda Goldwing.
Braking is provided by a four-piston Brembo setup.
The Souo touring motorcycle is equipped with heated seats, a windshield that can be raised at the touch of a button, a blind spot monitoring system and a 12.3-inch touchscreen that supports connectivity and updates over the air, as well as voice control, cruise control and electric reverse gear.
The rev counter shows a red line starting from 6,000 RPM.
This indicates that the motorcycle is tuned for torquey low and mid-range performance.
The speedometer has a maximum reading of 240 km/h.
The overall length of the model is 2660 mm, width 950 mm, height 1540 mm, wheelbase size is 1810 mm, and saddle height is 740 mm. Thus, the novelty is much larger than the iconic Honda Gold Wing.
The Chinese luxury tourer Souo S2000 is expected to be cheaper than the Honda Gold Wing.It will cost approximately $28,000.

I road a GL 1800 for almost 200,000 miles. Best machine I've ever owned but I know enough about high end Chinese manufacturing to understand that they are very capable of making high end, quality machines. The days of "made in China, must be junk" are past. Yes they will make all the cheap junk cheap people want to buy but let's remember Japan in the 1960's and how their products evolved from "ugh" to "wow". China is doing the same thing but better and faster. I for one would give it a chance before I develop an opinion on it's quality. If it's half the bike my Wing was, it's worth a shot.

If it was half the price, and you had half a brain. It is a blatant unserviceable rip off of a proven, bullet- proof 50-years-refined Japanese legendary performer. And it's resale value will make you weep.

Being I'm a motorcyle, Porsche owner and a gear head, I love the idea here. I rode a Gold Wing all over Colorado for 2 weeks and loved that bike. I can only imagine the power you could get from this 8 cylinder flat engine. 200+ would be easy if so desired. Hell, 300 no problem. Great video show casing this thing. Would I buy one. No, I'm a HD guy and love it. Got all I need in a bike to go anywhere for all day riding. But I get this bike. Get it out on the open road I bet if feels great. Somebody will buy it.

Honda has decades of experience developing their dealer (i.e. service) network, and refining their reliability through outstanding engineering. The Chinese are great when it comes to trying to copy others, but usually fall short on execution. I'll be looking forward to seeing a Souo S2000 on the side of the road someday.

I don’t know about that. Money can buy all of the engineers you want from wherever you want. I love GWs. I own a new one right now and have had them all my life. But this machine seems to address all of the short-comings that Honda has failed to address because they have been the only players in the game for so long. Clearly this is targeted toward an American fan base. I think they are in it for the long haul and I am here for it. I have struggled with Honda to fix some very serious issues that I have had since I bought my latest GW, and it still hasn’t been done. In June it will mark 3 years. 2021 DCT AB. I have a 19 minute video on my channel detailing this, if you are interested.

Just about every new motorcycle on the market contains a percentage of Chinese made components. Plenty of motorcycle companies have whole motorcycles made there and then market them under their own established names. The only difference with this one is the honesty about where it comes from. Replacement parts will be probably be available from AliBaba and will be as cheap as chips.
Chinese industry has been built on the greed of Western companies doing their manufacturing where it is cheapest and putting a big mark-up on the end product. It looks like those days might soon be coming to an end.

Honda should have kept the older Goldwing preload adjustment for the newer Goldwing. With the newer model, you either get not enough or too much preload whereas the older model you can adjust it step 1 to 25. This bike looks more the the Yamaha Star Venture with a Goldwing Flat engine setup. Will be interesting once its release in the market..

I don’t see a Harley owners going with this but I think this new brand will take a chunk out of Honda Goldwing sales for sure. If bike magazines critics show positive feed back, it may take off, then parts and service will be the main concern. Long road trips with very few servicing dealers are a main concern.

I absolutely agree with you, but just like any other market that the Chinese has managed to get a foot hold of, consumers are much more price/quality driven than anything else, offer a great product that works, it’s reliable, and at half the price, people will buy it. Simple equation really, thats how all the Korean cars started, look at them now. Hell that’s even how the Japanese cars started. 😂

As we learned during Covid, supply chains broke U.S. production because so many components come from Asia. The iPhone in your pocket came from China. Quality will probably be OK. The problem is the market. I'm a younger (63) boomer and I'm on my final bike. I won't be buying another big cruiser. Maybe an ADV. No one younger than me wants one. A niche product...motorcycles are dying out.
The interest in motorcycles is declining in europe and other non-developing countries....
Not sure who's gonna buy a 400 Kg elephant on two wheels....
A lot of chinese manufacturer don't do any market research prior to build something, they just build it to show they can do it.

Italian bikes are junk with myriad of electrical and mechanical problems! They are 3xpensive too.
In my opinion Chinese bikes will be better. Though they have a long way to come to Japanese quality.
