Thank you for this incredilble recording of Et In Unum. For me it is the most beautiful recording of this wonderful piece of music and I know many of them, because I am a musician too. Today I burried my sister, my only relative and your recording comforts me more than everything else. Thank you so much and greetings from hamburg, germany.
I hope these people realise how incredibly lucky they are for having the talent and the ability to earn a living by making music as beautiful as this. What a dream!
Lucky yes, but the work is long and hard. That’s not a complaint; I want to make sure you know that it doesn’t just happen this way. It takes a great deal of work.
@@Tinker1950 of course it is! I am just saying it because I have been studying and taking singing lessons for half my life, and I still do not have what it takes to earn a living on music. And it's my greatest frustration in life.

Yes, the ensemble is wonderful and the voices are beautiful, but would someone please mention the gorgeous playing of the 2 Baroque oboe d'amore players! 😀 👏👏👏👏
A beautiful Bach rendering! Great to have Katie's voice showcased so well - a really great alto voice, often rather hidden in the full VOCES8 ensemble. And goes so well with Barnaby's counter-tenor. The baroque players are exquisite too. Altogether a tour-de-force, thank you all.

Very uplifting. It is amazing how each generation of talented musicians can continue to bring new life to a piece written more than 250 years ago, and performed countless times.
It is not only sheer beauty, Barney and Katie seem to live the music they are bringing to us. You can see the joy all the musicians are feeling. The meaning of the words is put forward emotionally so that you can feel the faith of Bach in this excellent performance.
Oh mein Gott.. Bach und VOICES8.. Was für eine Verbindung. Komposition und musikalische Interpretation in allerhöchster Qualität.. Thank you very, very much. I love VOICES8..
Whoa!! Give me more! Barnaby's voice has grown intensely enjoyable for me - a unique timber that adds so much to the music. And what about Katie? Not only a beautiful voice in her own right, but she makes everyone better providing the undertone for so many of Voces8 pieces. Would love to hear Katie solo or duet more - she seems such a happy, delightful person. This duo should produce more and keep Katie in the spotlight!
It is a joy on this Ash Wednesday to hear JSB sung by two marvelous voices who normally sing interior parts. What a treat! 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️

Superbly sung and played. I find myself fascinated with the gestures that Barney and Katie use to achieve the best interpretation and tonal quality - such movements are not normally allowed in live performances, but in my own limited experience, they are very helpful.
When I walk past a small group of 10 people in a supermarket, or in a walk in a park, its hard to imagine that they could ever come together and produce such amazing heavenly music and ethereal singing...Wow...never underestimate how amazing people can be. Such a lovely performance from all. Thumbs up and subscribed.
Katie.... just exquisite, so well nuanced, joyful, effortless well beyond her normal alto range, a delight to listen too, especially in tandem with Barnaby.
Sweetest possible version of the sweetest piece in the mass. Love the informal setting, up to and including the first violinist chewing something, maybe sunflower seeds, while performing flawlessly.
What a brilliant piece of music, the Mass in B Minor. Along with the St Matthew Passion, the greatest religious music ever written. Composed near the end of Bach's life, when he knew he had only a short time to live.
Sublime!! My favorite duet from the B minor Mass. Barnaby and Katie's vocals are pure fire! I'm always getting ragged for loving baroque played on period instruments - the sound is pure and just 'right'. On a closer look, some of the violins appear modern.
It always amazes me when I hear their solo voices outside of the group. Incredible! Voces8 singers are so talented (is if that weren't obvious already) 😉
Agradecendo aos músicos envolvidos. Dueto perfeito. "E em um só Senhor, Jesus Cristo, o Filho unigênito de Deus, gerado de Seu Pai antes de todos os mundos, Deus de Deus, luz da luz, Deus verdadeiro de Deus verdadeiro, gerado, não feito, sendo uma só substância com o Pai por quem todas as coisas foram feitas: quem por nós homens e para nossa salvação desceu do céu." ALELUIA!
I have played the Bach Mass in B Minor several times but, being a French Horn Player, once I was done with the Bass Aria, Quonium Tu Solis Sanctus, the only Horn Obligato part, I usually dozed off, so this wonderful duet aria was a revelation! If I had had soloists as spectacular as Barnaby and Katie, I would surely have made the effort to stay awake!! ;-)
I don't know of an expression of the necessity of beauty for human lives than this exquisite contribution by Barney and Katie! ! The longer they go on doing this the better lives will be for us all. Bach is the building block,...devotion to his contribution is fundamental and devotion a necessary prerequisite.
I might not be the most sophisticated music connoisseur, but to me this is perfect. Perfect. The intonation of the whole ensemble, the dynamics, the stunning dialogue and echo of the two voices. The tempo. The pathos. It's a text a bit boring (credo in unum dominum, not a lot of poetry there), yet it brings you to tears for the sheer beauty of it, and the execution is so perfect to seem almost transparent, as if the ensemble is not there and the music plays itself.
Absolutely beautiful - I listened to it 4 times in quick succession! I'm a big fan of VOCES8 as a whole, and it's great to be able to appreciate how brilliant they are as individual performers,
Brilliant Baroque solo work by Barnaby and Katie! I love watching VOCES8 members in working recording sessions where they are free to gesture to help themselves focus their phrasing!
Yes, and the two oboists are swaying around to the point of being quite disconcerting. Surely they would be more focussed without expending all that extra energy.
Thanks, VOCES8 for letting us share this lovely music. The two voices and the ensemble in perfect harmony. How much poorer the world would have been without J S Bach!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the eight of them, with a band like the Illyria Consort, really ought to record the entire B minor Mass. (I can understand if they feel it would be too tiring to do the piece on a concert tour.)
More Katie. Hidden gem!

The only thing better than a good countertenor is a good countertenor together with a good alto. And nothing, really, is better than Bach.
Hard to argue with that.
