My goal was to surpass my previous high which was 15. I have completed 18 and I have served myself War And Peace as my desert. There is little chance that I will finish by years end, but I'm okay with that. Thank you for your encouragement. All the love.

I think it's same for me, around 18 books. And also I'm currently reading Anna Karenina which I won't be able to finish this year 😄

Pushkin is, for Russians, the equivalent of Shakespeare. It is studied a lot at school and for many a favourite. I'm happy to see someone giving him all this love that he deserves❤

I made my goal 55 and read 101 so far! Before the year ends I want to read Castle in the Clouds, which was a wintery book recommended by emmie here on TH-cam. I think it will be perfect for the holiday season!

Currently reading My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry. So glad to know about Backman! Each year I either set a goal to read all of one author’s works or a series. This year it was The Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Reilly-incredible! In 2024 I’m going to read all of the Brontë sisters works.

I've met my goodreads goal for the year (35 books) and now my only remaining goal is to finish the doorstopper that is Les Mis. I'm on page 950/1300 and I started it on the 7th of December... last year lol

I think I am about 15 books behind! But right now I am finishing up The Wizards Guide to Defensive Baking, Jurassic Park, Fourth Wing, and The Girl who Drank the Moon. My Christmas books are A Christmas Carol l, Hercule Poirot‘s Christmas, and The Enchanted Sonata. I am expecting lots of time off for reading in the near future.
Also, that sweater is doing an excellent job at bringing out the colour of your eyes 🥰

Thank you so much for recommending Small Things Like These, Carolyn! I absolutely loved it, and will continue on with the rest of Claire Keegan’s novels. I am reading Little Women, currently, and hope to delve into The Penguin Book of Christmas Stories and An English Christmas by John Julius Norwich in the run up to Christmas and in the week before New Year’s. Happy reading…I hope you reach your goal!📚📖♥️

I met my goal of 50 in July. However I’m trying to reach 100 by the end of the month- 93 finished so far. I am a third of the way into Atlas Shrugged and have a pile of graphic novels, manga and shorter books suggested by my young patrons at the library where I work in order to reach the mark. Thank you for letting us know that Game of Tomes will be back. I like to plan my yearly goals in January and will keep twelve open spots for the book club ❤

Every year I will read some version of The Nutcracker. This year I'm reading The Enchanted Sonata for the first time. I'm half way through it and am enjoying it! Little Women is the other book I always find myself reading this time of year as well.... one of my favorites.

You can do it, Carolyn! I also love reading The Night Before Christmas every year. I have the Hallmark pop-up book version, which I've had since childhood. It's such a nostalgic reading experience. :) I'm hoping to finish The Cricket on the Hearth by Charles Dickens before the end of this year.

I don't tend to read for the season. I'm currently reading Red Comet by Heather Clark, and it's a Sylvia Plath biography so I am not finishing it this year. On the side I am reading January by Sara Gallardo, and that will probably be the last book I finish this year. I made my 2024 reading list back in June, I couldn't help it!

I just finished book 170 yesterday with Hamnet (HIGHLY recommend btw) and had a goal of 100 books. It was a great year of reading for me and part of that was because I stopped being so stuffy about "what books counted" in my book count and I devoured a about 35 manga this year. I'm rounding out my year with Little Women and A Sword Called Kaigen.

To help with Twelfth Night, try to watch the Globe production from around 2013. It’s historically-accurate (I.e. all-male cast), hilarious, and stars Johnny Flynn as Viola, Stephen Fry as Malvolio, and Mark Rylance as Olivia.

Carolyn! If you give your local Barnes and Noble a call, they may have already put Heartstopper vol. 5 out on the sales floor. My husband works at a B&N, and when I went to visit his shop this past weekend I saw them out in the YA section! I didn’t even realize they were supposed to come out on the 19th. Worth a shot, since if they weren’t marked “strict on sale” for their store, maybe they weren’t for others too. Just a thought, since I lept at the chance to buy it too! Love this series so much!

I personally haven’t made a reading goal in terms of quantity in a while, I just write down a few books that I know I want to go through. Also, I love to read slowly so if I only read 10 in a year and they completely become a part of me, I have no problem with it.
If you haven’t read The Idiot, I think you would enjoy it for next year!

I think reading goals are very helpful. I read Count of Monte Christo and it derailed my early momentum. So I too had to play catch-up in late Nov and Dec. I concentrated on some short books, something I rarely ever do. Since mid Nov I have read: Peter Pan, Small thing Like These, End of the Affair, and Hemingway's Paris. I'm almost finished with Checkout19 (which is super-creative), and Id like to read Letters from Father Christmas (your recommendation) and Washington Square before the end of Dec. I think I can do it. Good luck. Happy Christmas.

The Polar express, I want to watch the film before Christmas. I have over twenty library books I need to read, some of them are Christmassy and some not. Janet Dailey's The Sleighbells is one; At the Pond an anthology; Santa's secret diary (picture book); just to name a couple. I'll be concentrating of the library books over this Christmas season. I have leave for 3 weeks so I should be able to read lots, especially since where I'm spending Christmas is hot, hot, hot. I live in Australia, it's Summer and the temp's go into the 40's C, which I think for you is in 104's F abouts! So my mum and I kind of hibernate indoors and read.

I just want to say that you really inspired me to pick up a Shakespeare for fun *gasp*. I had the experience of being forced to read Shakespeare in school in a way that I don't feel is conducive to actual enjoyment of his craft, an experience which I imagine many others share. I recently picked up Taming of the Shrew and legitimately laughed out loud while reading it. If anyone is feeling turned off by the idea of reading a Shakespeare outside of academia, trust me when I say that you CAN enjoy it (with enough effort and a good Folgers edition 😉). Thank you Carolyn!

Hey Carolyn, Merry Christmas! I'm working on three things: First is a textbook that I'm slogging thru a few pages a day in preparation for a big exam I plan to take next year [fingers crossed]; besides that is another chunker in which I'm making steady albeit slow progress Does God Exist? [I'll let you guess the final answer bc I don't want to spoil the ending should you choose to read it]; the third is much shorter but in French so I can't go as fast as would like: Comment je crois. The author was a French Jesuit who had some trouble swallowing the Genesis dogma, particularly with respect to original sin. His writings were on the banned list until he passed and possibly he's still not the most popular monk writing biblical interpretation.

As someone who doesn’t celebrate Christmas, it’s so nice to hear you acknowledge that not everyone does! I don’t normally read multiple books at the same time but somehow I currently have 4 books on the go (2 books, 1 ebook, 1 audio). Dombey & son (first time reading), Jane Eyre (my all time favourite book any time of year), Poor Miss Finch by Wilkie Collins (first time reading) and No name also Wilkie Collins. I’m not a prolific reader so I doubt they’ll all be finished by the end of the year.

Right now, I only have one book I want to finish before the end of the year, that is Our Violent Ends by Chloe Gong.

😂 why are you so worried about meeting reading goals? Read for fun only.
I had been reading some books but was not able to finish. Maybe I will push harder in the last two weeks if I can due to other commitments. To me, important is to grow from my habits like reading, training or any learning. I don’t want to spend time on finishing books to meet my reading goals and then regret for the opportunity cost I paid.
