  • It does have a 20 inch micro groove barrel. the full metal jackets were factory and the hunting and hp were reloads, so less power so they shot lower

I really want to buy one now. I like that short throw. And it makes a nice companion piece to any M-1 Carbine.

My cousin before he passed an I were hunting partners for many many years , he used the 30 cal. Short throw lever rifle in heavy woods and scored a number of deer with it . I have been looking for one for many years - his went to his oldest daughter , she hunts too.

Sellier & Bellot - .30 Carbine, 110gr, FMJ, box of 50 and Federal makes it in 110grn SPRN in boxes of 20 (hunting rounds).
Reason I stopped by today as there is one available on a local gun forum for $1200.00 Canadian shekles.

    The .357 is the unicorn.
I have seen a pic of one, but never in real life.
As for hunting deer I have always figured there is not enough choices in bullets, but you have HP ammo, so that would be fine
When I had my .30 carbine Blackhawk I could only find FMJ. It got sold to a buddy with a M1 carbine.
    Still a smoking round.

Finally, a video of someone shooting the Model 62 in 30 carbine. Thank you!

I’m wondering as well, seems to me if the Army wanted a handy carbine in the 40’s for accurate fire out to 300 yards. It would seem that 150 yards and in on deer would work. Just my guess.

I bought the 30 caliber carbine a few years ago. I was given a scope so I bore sighted it and took it to the range. Shot 4 rounds in the bull, packed it up and haven't shot it since. The greatest lever action I have ever owned with the shortest travel. Excellent video!

Like you Paul i have been on the hunt for one of theses for over 20 years. i have loved the old 30 carbine military rifles. however one day years ago a guy at work was talking about one in a marlin lever that him and his brothers would fight over ever year before opening day of buck season. doing some research on it i tried to buy it to a laughing nooo way, so the search was on and on and on, you can only imagine the excitement when i found this one. could not get the money out fast enough

I've wanted 1 of these for a long time. They're hard to find and when found can be pretty expensive. Ammo is also very difficult and very expensive these days. It makes shooting my 30 carbine less fun than it used to be.

You didn’t open your action on either weapon on that table or flag the chambers, with that you would be fined or removed from our club. By the way I have one of these and they are good out to around 150 yards, be safe.

Shot placement is capable of taking a whitetail

I have one, can't wait to shoot it. Thanks for the video. What scope bases are you using? I like the 2 separate ones vs. The long one piece scope base.

Ok, "is the .30 carbine round suitable for deer?"... it depends. A couple of states expressly forbid it as a deer round, so there, hard no. Everywhere else? Well, it still depends. The .32-20 was used for deer in brush for decades, and performance is about the same. If you have the discipline and talent to only take soft close range shots (no shoulders or quartering), sure, it'll work. A heart or spine shot buck wont know the difference at 25 yards between carbine and .45-70. Gut shot probably not either (youre gonna need your hiking boots either way, lol). But catch a shoulder even at conversational distance, youre spending a long day tracking, at best. Id personally want more rifle (same with .357 mag, honestly), but i wouldnt brand you negligent for bringing one, so long as you only took clean soft close shots, and if it was all i had and i needed a freezer load of venison to survive, id make do with it. Of course no mulies, no elk, just fat young whitetails at "across walmart or closer" ranges, lol

Why don’t you eject the last round? You did this twice.
