Thank you Fr. I'm struggling with a totally distractable nous, yet to attain a spiritual Father yet, I'm flying blind. My Priest has just returned from Mt Athos (I haven't met him yet) I can't wait to gain some one on one instruction. So this clip has been a blessed admonition, thank you much. Glory to God.
Father whenever l seem to slip with complacency, your podcasts have helped me immensely with constant reminders of staying focused with Nepsis constant prayer and keeping the sacraments with regular attendance of my church. In addition not allowing secular concerns overwhelm me to a point where it interferes with what really matters! My constant love of Christ through the Jesus Prayer and with my love of the most Holy Theotokos.

Dear Fr Mikhail. Father bless. I'm David Robles. You asked for suggestions on what things we would like to learn from your videos. I can think of a few things that always peak my interest: 1. Humility and the practice of silence and meekness. 2. God's Providence in St John Chrysostom and the teaching of St Seraphim of Viritsa 3. Love for one's enemies in St Silouan the Athonite and St Nikolai Velimirovich's Lord Bless my Enemies 4. On double mindedness and the healing of the will 5. The Jesus Prayer, Repentance and purification of the heart.
Finally a useful and for me a very needed understanding ,as a long lived protestant now orthodox, I searched for this knowing my lack. Please go deeper.
Thank you, Father. Excellent and very helpful topic. I liked the visual presentation, as it helped me focus more on what you were saying. However, I also like seeing you as you speak, as you are the human vessel God is using in each of these videos, and it's good to see that as well. So maybe some sort of combination of the two could be helpful. But I have no idea how that could be accomplished, as that is definitely not my area of expertise. At any rate, thank you for this message!

its like the rooster that peter heared and repented, the rooster is a wake up call mindfullness . buddhism have this practice of mindfulness and what i love about orthodoxy that it has all the tools of all spirtual teachings orthodoxy is the full truth
There’s a huge difference between Orthodox watchfulness and Buddhist mindfulness. Be wary of the fallacy of equivocation. Very different telos and very different applications
@@living_orthodox whats the difirance ? I used to watch tich nhat he is a famous buddhist monk that taught mindfulness , to be mindful of the present moment , but can u please be clear on the diffirent view ? Is the technique diffirent ? Or ?
@@thenarrowdoor7 yes the technique is different in that the practice of watchfulness isn’t solely within the power of the Christian. It’s the prayer to God, the Jesus prayer that powers this practice. It’s also not a close your eyes and meditate type of thing. We aren’t seeking to simply let thoughts go, but to know where they come from and to eventually attack the passions. It’s not a passive endeavour. In being watchful, you’re on guard against temptations, and the thoughts the devil tries to sow in our hearts. Mindfulness is more akin to mindlessness and the abandonment of the watch of the heart. In disabling our faculty to judge thoughts and temptations we more easily can be overcome by passions when we least expect. Buddhism is ultimately nihilistic and demonic. Taking anything from it is like eating food that’s been in contact with disease and filth.

is nepsis watchfulness against evil thoughts that come from demons? or just from racing thoughts is it what paul was referring to "take every thought into captivity"
This is something that stays timely & was on my line, certainly. Thank you, Fr. Michael. I would like to immerse myself in this further to better absorb it. Might there be a source where a transcript would be available? I'd like to have a copy to read.
I am glad that the wisdom of the saints and their teachings were of value to you! Most of what I made use of came from Themes from the Philokalia (which as far as I know, is out of print), the spiritual counsels of St. Paisios and excerpts from the Philokalia. I’ll see about having a transcript made. I’ll also be adding some of these on my website. living-orthodox.com
@@living_orthodox Thanks. I will visit your website to see what you make available. This was so helpful that i'll go back and write your message down bit by bit & figure out the parts where the auto-translate is wonky. Glad to find your channel here.
So basically prayer, being baptized & participating in the sacraments are tools at our disposal to help us keep watch. Are there any others as well? I feel like even though I try to do this I'm still bit vigilant enough.
There are! Confession helps with this too. In confession we are aided by the Church, in prayer and in guidance to avoid the passions, or rather, to uproot them. Of course this is a sacrament. There’s a powerful tool to help with watchfulness and the passions that many overlook. The psalms.
@@living_orthodox We found it after asking you the question! Thank you for your answer as it might enlighten others as well! Thank you for your work and God bless!
So, one has to be in an organized church to be able to practice. What about the desert fathers, who mostly stood outside any church, but were forced by the church to enter a church? Constant prayer only distracts from being aware of what is right there. While thinking about Jesus, you cannot even fully enjoy an ice cream.

They were part of the Church this is a very anachronistic argument you’re presenting.
