Thankyou Fr. Dcn. Charles for posting this here. I consider this work by st. Theophan the Recluse and Metropolitan Anthony Bloom's book "Beginning to Pray" to be essential reading.
Thank you very much for this record. Theophan's writings tranformed my life. I heard this in Russian and now I am happy to discover this spiritual treasure in English
Glory be to Jesus Christ. Thank you for your work to put this into this format for the benefit of others. Question: where might I be able to find the singing at the end of the video? I would like to include it in my daily songs.
Perhaps the devil, is in the misleading that comes from misunderstanding that statement. If a person with an honest heart hears believes, he shall find himself moving throughout his life, making it a prayer; given freely and wholeheartedly to [YHWH]. Making of his assigned time a work of faith by itself. Yet I agree that the institutionalized principalities cast a lot of darkness in the form of presumptuous assumptions among their followers, outside of it being one specific denomination of faith.
@@soifrane merci beaucoup Soifrane.
This seems like very wise and useful advice for sit-down prayer rules but not for the Jesus prayer, as some of this (chiefly the advice "don't pray while doing things" and "seek to fill your soul with emotion") contradicts most instruction on the Jesus prayer. Just wanted to make that distinction.
The steps noted of considering Who God is, turning your mind from worldy concerns, and filling the heart, are all effects and I assume goals of the Lord's prayer. ❤️
One of the best introductions on prayer I’ve come across. St Theophan pray for us ☦️
Lord have mercy on us, may we draw closer to Him through a life of prayer. ☦️❤️🤲🏻🛐
Thank you so much for uploading this and including the link in the comments. This has been up for 10 years and I only now have discovered it!

@@cjoiner1234 Thank you!
Excellent!
This is very deep and through. Honestly I think I should maybe have a spiritual Father to help me
29:46 a major plot of the devil; telling Protestants that in order to be saved you just need to believe, no ceaseless prayer or works necessary

Fr Deacon, do you conduct classes in Greenville?
Yes I do at the Saint George Greek Orthodox cathedral. I also mentor an online class on the Orthodox faith.
It's a pity there no translation in french. I can't find this book anywhere.
