  • Every attempt from the Elephant Bar Deadlift, Event 3 of the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic, now in a condensed edit with no lag time between athletes or lifts. Original event date: March 4, 2023, Columbus, Ohio.
    With this challenge, each athlete has 3 attempts to establish a max weight (inside a 60 second time cap). The Elephant Bar challenge also doubles as a Rogue Record Breakers event.
    Coming off a great showing in the Austrian Oak, the foursome of Trey Mitchell, Bobby Thompson, Mitchell Hooper, and Rob Kearney once again set the tone to start Day Two at the Arnold, as all four look capable of flirting with the 1,000 LB barrier.
    Check out the Rogue TH-cam Channel for more great Iron Game moments, past and present.

    This Elephant bar Deadlift should never be compared with the likes of 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 ASC EBDL where *Hafthor: 1046, 1041, 1026, 1011, Jerry: 1031, 1006, Eddie: 1025, Brian: 1021, 1021, 1016 and JF: 1021* showed us what BRUTE STRENGTH is.
    In 2020 Hafthor retired, and 2021 RI saw a max pull of only 926, hence they changed the EBDL to T-Bar Squat in 2022 ASC and even gave them a suit and still only saw a max 966 "equipped" squat. In 2023 ASC they not only allowed briefs at the EBDL but also had the audacity to compare those brief-equipped lifts with Hafthor's World Record which was done raw. Having said that, I'm glad this year there will be no briefs allowed.

      @@neal520 Dr. Terry is a massive inspiration to Hafthor. When he placed dead last in 2012 ASC, it was Dr. Terry who approached him and said, Hafthor you are a big guy, you can win this someday. He progressively improved throughout the years by climbing up the ranks being 8th, 7th, 5th and emerged the runner up by 2017. Then 2018 emerged and the rest is history!
      Dr. Terry passed away in July 2018 and he only saw Hafthor's 2018 ASC win with the 472 WR and him winning WSM in 2018. Unfortunately he didn't see Hafthor winning the World's Ultimate Strongman or the 1100 Powerlifting total with a 5 week prep, let alone the 2019 ASC win with the 474.5 WR and the 501 miss let alone seeing Hafthor as the 3 time back to back Champion. Hafthor has immense respect for Dr. Terry and he paid beautiful tributes to him by 1.) tattooing his slogan Don't Weaken in his upper shin, 2.) wearing Dr. Terry's own kilt which was gifted to Hafthor by Dr. Jan, when he broke his own Highland Games weight over bar WR with 20' 3" during last Rogue Invitational ¹, and 3.) sharing the story I said in my first para about Dr. Terry believing in Hafthor, after he won his 3rd consecutive ASC in 2020 while being interviewed by Arnold himself.
      ---
      ¹ For those who don't know, Hafthor broke that world record more than 10 times, ever since he cleared 19'5" in 2015 and to this day, remains the only man to clear 19'6" or higher.

    Crazy that the winning weight was a routine, casual opener for Thor in 2018-2020.

    For those saying that these performances dont compare to previous performances in this event.
    1. This was the first time that the deadlift at the arnold wasn't the first event and was instead on the 2nd day. The athletes had done the wheel of pain the day before this.
    2. Many athletes do not focus on top end deadlift strength the way Eddie and Thor did in their prime.
    3. Pavlo, if he wasn't injured, probably would have still done 1k+.

    • @Hesher93
      @Hesher93 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      At ASC 2020 the Deadlift also was on the 2nd day (after 3 events instead of 2 and without briefs like they had 2023)
      The average Deadlift was 10kg higher then 2023 (with Briefs it would be more).
      And at that Comp you also had multiple injured athletes like Shiv, Pritchett.
      JF Caron didn't even do his 3rd attempted, cause he already secured 2nd place.

    • @Don_of_KingsFall
      @Don_of_KingsFall 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Hesher93 which goes along with my other point. All those names you mentioned are retired, and few athletes today focus on heavy 1rm deadlifts like they did. Also if Ivan, Graham, and a healthy Pavlo were there the numbers wouldn't be that different

    • @Hesher93
      @Hesher93 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Don_of_KingsFall Maybe, but you still can defintily compare the numbers and see that they are down.
      I was more arguing against your 1. and 3. Point.

      @@bmstylee Its insane to critisize what Rob is doing considering he is so undersized but still manages to pull crazy weight, nothing is stopping the other guys from doing what he does, but he is uniquely talented in doing those movements, so why shouldn't he be allowed?

    • @papasauce234
      @papasauce234 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i agree hitching is ridiculous but its allowed in strongman, because in strongman you are allowed to lift things pretty much however you want as long as you get it up, it is not a particularly strict sport, its not like powerlifting for example where you need 3 judges and have to meet certain criteria to get a good lift, if you lift it, its good 99% of the time in strongman@@bmstylee

      1. Few strongmen specialize in deadlift strength like Thor and Eddie did and instead focus on being more well-rounded athletes.
      2. This was the first event of day 2 of the competition after the athletes had done the Wheel of Pain the day prior. None of these athletes were at 100%.
      3. Pavlo probably would have still pulled 1k had he not been injured.
