Sonic Generations is a big, important, special celebration of what Sonic is and was! No matter how bad his games were, he will always be special to all Sonic fans everywhere.
Little known fact: For the console version's credits (not sure about the 3DS version as the footage for the stages in the 3DS version were not from the actual game in this video), in order to get the footage of the gameplay of the original levels, SEGA executives actually played the respective games themselves and recorded the footage. That means a SEGA exec actually played Crisis City, and in turn, Sonic 06. Oh, and that slowdown? That's not put in for dramatic effect, that was just slowdown from the actual game itself. I hope playing that level taught that exec something.

Also the slowdown IS put in for dramatic effect (or rather, to lengthen what tiny moments of "good" looking footage they could scrounge together), I've never had slowdown at the (mostly scripted) moments they use in the footage. God I wish there was slowdown during the last act of Crisis City in the original, might've made it remotely playable instead of a death gauntlet of havoc physics.

God, I love the attention to detail in the order of the songs here. Casino Night being after Chemical Plant just like in Sonic 2, but the opposite holding true for Mushroom Hill and Sky Sanctuary where the latter is the one after the former just like in their home game, then doing the same for Adventure 1 (Emerald Coast being before Speed Highway in Sonic's story), then putting the hero story's City Escape before the Dark story's Radical Highway for Adventure 2, then Water Palace being sandwiched inbetween Heroes's Seaside Hill as Rush was released after Heroes and Sonic 06's Crisis City as Rush was released a year prior, and finally putting Tropical Resort before Planet Wisp as the former is literally the starting stage of Colors while Planet Wisp is one of the later unlockables. It's freaking beautiful.
One of the best timestamps ever is 13:45. The crowd was shouting "Happy Birthday Sonic!" If the Sonic Conventions do this from around the world, (even Summer of Sonic and Sonic Boom from 2012-2016) this would be a ultimate masterpiece for all the Sonic Crowd.
I do wish the 3DS was more focused around the handheld experience. I suppose aleast Water Palace and Tropical Resort are more focused on the Sonic rush part
+IPlayGames Check me out! You're right that it's not lag, but the slow-mo didn't happen in the original. I think they just added the slow-mo to the video in order to keep the footage as smooth as possible because the game looks as bad in motion as it feels to play (jerky movements and clipping through things etc). They basically took a few bits of footage from the parts of the level that are referenced in Generations' remake, squeezed out some short clips of specific moments that don't look terrible on their own (single jumps, homing attack chains and scripted sequences etc) and strung them out as long as possible using slow-mo.
Some poor bastard at Sega had to play a stage of 06 and do so well at it that the game looks good, just for the Sonic Generations credits reel. Which by itself probably took them a million tries.

No the adventure games were the transition from classic to modern. It had the homing attack, but no boost mechanic. Both were in Sonic Rush which is the official start to Modern Sonic

Yeah, it felt really weird to go though the stage as Sonic. But then, I started to think of it like this, Hero and Dark stories, where the console had the Hero Sonic first stage, and 3DS had the Dark Shadow first stage.
I like how they’re ordered by appearance in the game, so chemical plant is before casino night, but sky sanctuary is after mushroom hill. It’s the little details :)
After all these years. Even if the 3DS inclusions are a bit unfair (Doubling the number of classic stages) I STILL Prefer this mashup. Especially that version of Radical Highway

Heck! Normal Mario can go *kart-racing* IN SPACE!)
Rush was my first sonic game, and I loved it as a kid. I recently went back to play it and it was still fun, 10+ years after release. If you have a ds, new or old, give it a shot
7:50 Even after all these years my eyes immediately zipped to the timer while that sequence was playing out, to see if you were going to beat the 3 minute time limit mission D set you back in the day. You wouldn't have (a second or so too slow), but I'd been in that position so many times it was a familiar feeling.
I've grown up with sonic my whole life. My first game was sonic 2 and I was addicted I played sonic everyday when I got home and it's just so weird it's been 24 years now... I played all these games (except sonic colors) and I can say that although it was a bumpy ride for sonic, I'm content with all the games
My first Childhood sonic game, Were Sonic Heroes. That game is fun, I mean me and my friend played 2 players, we battled and we even raced but we both weren't good at that.
I'm Fourteen, and I played every single game that had a level inspired from a classic Sonic game, including the 3DS Version (AKA Water Palace). So yeah, this reminds me of the first time playing through a Sonic game, even though SA2B was the first Sonic game I, myself owned. My sister had a SNES & Genesis, and I played Sonic's 1-3&K all the time back then.
Call me biased but Sonic Generations IS the most emotionally brilliant way and the very best way how you celebrate a 20th anniversary title in style! 😃 :’)
I know right, and also, even though I don't have the 3DS version and I haven't played it, I have some issues here from 3DS version. First of all, in Sonic Adventure 2, you play Radical Highway once as Shadow, why does that lever need to be there? Yeah, I get it, everyone likes that lever but why can't they just recreate another memorable Sonic lever from Sonic Adventure 2? Secondly, Why do they have to get footage of Blaze's Water Palace? Why can't why just show just Sonic's Water Palace instead of both Sonic's and Blaze's, they did get footage of Sonic's Crisis City but not Shadow's or Silver's, so why can't they just do the same thing with Water Palace? And thirdly, why do they have to get footage of Tropical Resort from the Wii version of Sonic Colors? Why can't they just get the footage of Tropical Resort from the DS version of Sonic Colors?

These are the best versions of Crisis City and Radical Highway imo the guitars in these are just so fucking badass and i really love the subtle percussion thats more prevalent in radical highway
Fun Fact: This game, so successful, would almost have a port for PSP, and still has a deleted phase in the files of the same that seems to show a little bit of the Lost Kingdom of Sonic 2006 to be Inclued.
Yeah, I'd actually like to see a Frozen Factory stage from Lost Worlds make an appearance in a Generations sequel. Also a stage from Sonic Boom, and maybe a few other stages from games that haven't been announced yet. And also, there were a lot of Sega fans that got pissed off that their favorite stages weren't in Generations so then there is that... There are a lot of possibilities.
Vivian Lee Sonic Boom is a different cannon. Which means that it's more than likely not going to be Sonic Generations 2 (If they ever make one to begin with) Just like how Shadow The Hedgehog's level wasn't in generation

I want a port of Sonic And The Black Knight to come to Switch with button controls as an option. It’s a fantastic game. I love it so much.

I've grown up with sonic my whole life. My first game was sonic 2 and I was addicted I played sonic everyday when I got home and it's just so weird it's been 24 years now... I played all these games (except sonic colors) and I can say that although it was a bumpy ride for sonic, I'm content with all the games

I'm Fourteen, and I played every single game that had a level inspired from a classic Sonic game, including the 3DS Version (AKA Water Palace). So yeah, this reminds me of the first time playing through a Sonic game, even though SA2B was the first Sonic game I, myself owned. My sister had a SNES & Genesis, and I played Sonic's 1-3&K all the time back then.

I know right, and also, even though I don't have the 3DS version and I haven't played it, I have some issues here from 3DS version. First of all, in Sonic Adventure 2, you play Radical Highway once as Shadow, why does that lever need to be there? Yeah, I get it, everyone likes that lever but why can't they just recreate another memorable Sonic lever from Sonic Adventure 2? Secondly, Why do they have to get footage of Blaze's Water Palace? Why can't why just show just Sonic's Water Palace instead of both Sonic's and Blaze's, they did get footage of Sonic's Crisis City but not Shadow's or Silver's, so why can't they just do the same thing with Water Palace? And thirdly, why do they have to get footage of Tropical Resort from the Wii version of Sonic Colors? Why can't they just get the footage of Tropical Resort from the DS version of Sonic Colors?

Yeah, I'd actually like to see a Frozen Factory stage from Lost Worlds make an appearance in a Generations sequel. Also a stage from Sonic Boom, and maybe a few other stages from games that haven't been announced yet. And also, there were a lot of Sega fans that got pissed off that their favorite stages weren't in Generations so then there is that... There are a lot of possibilities.

Sonic Generations should have Westopoils form Shadow the Hedgehog and Pirate Island form Sonic Rush Adventure. And also Angel Island Zone form Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
