Huge waste of money on something the developers rush out every year with 90% of the same content, at full price, and then want you to buy loot boxes on top of that. I'm glad you brought up Kerbal though. I just started playing Space Engineers for the first time and after having put a lot of hours into both Kerbal and No Man's Sky. I found space engineers to be the perfect balance between those two games. Kerbal focuses on realism and amazing physics that simulate launching into space and planet orbiting. But it lacks a sense of immersion - you barely have any controls when controlling a kerbal, there's no base building, no combat, no flying around for fun. Then you have NMS, which is the complete opposite of that. A very casual space Sim where you have combat, basebuilding, and so forth without worrying about having to build your own ship or worry about gravity and physics. Space engineers is the perfect in-between. You play in third or first person, any kind of equipment or machines of any type you want (ships, rovers, odd things like stationary drilling rigs) ALL have to be built by the character. You can buy ships and rovers, but you can also build your own. And when you do you have to worry about power systems, placement of thrusters, how heavy your ship is and if it will leave the planets atmosphere. It's just soooo good and I can't believe I slept on this game for so long.
8:48 holy crap this made me laugh. My wife and I bring this up randomly to each other every so often when the situation applies the zoomed in SpongeBob look 😂
When I read the title of this video, the first game I thought of was Beyond Eyes. It has some neat ideas. The character you play as is blinded in an accident so you can't really see normally, but it's a *video* game so there has to be a visual component, right? Well, as you wander around, the things your character perceives with her senses are represented visually. Bump into a fence, now you see a fence there. Hear a bird tweet, now you see a bird there. It's not always reliable, though. The sound of running water might bring to mind a faucet or a fountain, but when you get close enough to notice that it smells nasty, you realize it's more likely to be a drainage pipe. When you perceive something, it gets remembered. Problem is, things change. When you return to an area, the way it was might not be how it is now. There might be the image of a barricade from the first time you went through, but that barricade might not actually be there now. Also, you don't want to run into things or trip over stuff so your walking speed is horrendously slow. So yeah. Actually being blind really doesn't sound very fun, and the game captures that quite well.
Falcon this one's for you! Please don't leave us, for the love of TH-cam. I just watched a show and apparently falcons only live to about 25 years in captivity, I mean I love Jake also but gameranx without you is no gameranx for me.😢

I started gaming in 1982 on home computers and even back then we kids were obsessed with graphics and realism, such as they were 40 years ago, we didn't care if the gameplay was complete crap! Good see that nothing has changed, players and studios are still just as obsessed with graphics/realism over proper gameplay!!
Wow, that sniper game. 😮 Yeah no thank you. Not only does it look boring, but also I don't want that level of glorification in a realistic game. Nice of that one guy to step on some white paint before going on patrol though. Makes it so much easier to track!

The worst thing about Shenmue 3, was that by the end of that game, you're still nowhere close to figuring out who the main antagonist is. The entire game as a result felt pointless. Instead of taking advantage of the fact a new game was being developed, after being funded via Kickstarter, would give them the opportunity to close out the story after such a long hiatus, the designer thought they could use the opportunity to milk it further. They had yet more sequels planned out. Of course, Shenmue 3 wasn't financially successful, so those will likely never happen, and we'll likely never get closure.
The crazy thing is that a lot of wwe fans want that terrible sim-style back. The current games dont do it nearly as much, but I cant believe fans are nostalgic for games like wwe2k19.
I was pretty sure that Tarkov would be on this list. Good lore, good maps, decent graphics and gameplay ideas...but then there's the bugs, spaghetti code, lots of bullcrap design choices and the greedy attitude of developers that make it terrible.
In my opinion, the more realism the worse the game. Rockstar took almost every ounce of fun out of Red Dead Redemption with that sequel because of their desire for realism AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON KINGDOM COME DELIVERANCE, THE WORST GAME I OWN.
It isn't scummy to sell incomplete game as early access... that's what early access is. It's the culture around early access these days which is the problem... people seem to see early access as "VIP access", they go in with the wrong expectations, get disappointed and leave a review in bad faith basically saying "the early access game is unfinished"... duh. And ofc the publisher expecting big bucks from an unfinished product as well. On reusing code... well physics is the same today as it was 10 years ago so what's the problem with that. For me, IF KSP 2 was basically KSP 1 with better graphics and multiplayer i will be happy. KSP 1 is a great game, KSP 2 has great potential, hopefully the new owners are willing to invest in that potential.
Calling Trespasser a terrible game is a travesty. Trespasser is legitimately phenomenal in everything except for the controls. I would highly recommend searching for Research Indicates, they did an amazing playthrough with lots of backstory in an essay format and it's a great watch.
Day Z. For so many reasons. Basically every time that the devs try to implement "realism" they do so in a way that is unrealistic and on top of that, un-fun.
Some of this games could be completely saved by being ported to VR, there are some ideas that just don’t work on a flat screen due to the nature of controlling stuff through a controller/keyboard.
The worst things about the past 14~years of WWE Mainline games is the stamina system. Oh? You just hit 3 moves? Now your stamina is depleted and you can't attack or reverse moves. Funny, is when you're playing the CPU and they have seemingly infinite stamina.
Hearing him say Sniper Elite and Sniper Ghost Warrior are the same franchise hurt my soul. Sniper Elite used to be good up until 5 ruined it. Ghost Warrior used to suck until Contracts came out. Different devs entirely 🙈

Nice of that one guy to step on some white paint before going on patrol though. Makes it so much easier to track!
Dudes I swear, when I'm looking for content and can't find anything but out of nowhere I see you guy(s) made a video, it just lights up my world and makes me so happy. Peace be with you all, keep up the great work ❤ Gamers RULE!!! 💪💯
The Shennmue bit had me rolling on the floor
Hey uh, Sniper: Ghost Warrior and Sniper Elite are NOT the same franchise. Two totally different devs and franchises.
The Sniper Ghost Warrior games aren't part of the Sniper Elite franchise, they're made by completely different developers.
I dislike most "survival" type games where you have to eat and drink. It's just boring and pointless.
Next video make a top 10 games that look terrible but are great 😆
8:40 “WHERE IS SHE!?!?”
Imagine going to a game to escape reality for abit, just to find all the bad stuff of reality again but now in a screen
did he take a dump at 0:44 ?
In my opinion, the more realism the worse the game. Rockstar took almost every ounce of fun out of Red Dead Redemption with that sequel because of their desire for realism AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON KINGDOM COME DELIVERANCE, THE WORST GAME I OWN.
"You can't go around all CinemaSins on these things" ...I can. **DING!**
Gameranx isn't pragnent but they deliver at time.
Rocksmith was pretty good for guitar stuff with real guitars. There's a new one that I think needs a subscription but the 2014 one is sweet.
With the way things are going, I just assume that I'm always going to die, then go to jail. So pretty realistic.
I literally did a spit take on your Shenmue garlic breath bit 😂
3:29 I can't believe they actually showed the best waifu
I tried, but I could never play The Getway games on PS2. The realism proved daunting! Thanks Falcon and team!
Any time!
Notification : Gameranx uploaded a new video
Me 🏃💨
Honorable Mention: "Ryse: Son of Rome"
It's not awful, but golly, does it look _FAR_ better than it plays
It gets very repetitive imo
That game still looks amazing by today's standards.
Was this a gladiator game on the 360? I have vague memories of seeing it at a gamestop over a decade ago.
@allthatishere Xbox One. It was basically a tech demo
Damn! I actually liked it 😂😂
This has NOTHING to do with realism & EVERYTHING to do with just bad games.
Lmfao the shenmue rip is the funniest from game ranks so far. I can’t stop laughing 😂😂😂
Never heard of Rise of the Six String. Glad we still got Rocksmith and they did it right.
I just burst out laughing when Falcon mentioned the titty heart
My joke about "realistic games" is "Where is it on a scale from 1 to manual breathing button?"
0:55 I didn’t fail - I’m being Elon
Falcon has got to be the most talented bird ever to know how to play a guitar 😂😂
You had me dying at the garlic bit lol
Calling Trespasser a terrible game is a travesty. Trespasser is legitimately phenomenal in everything except for the controls. I would highly recommend searching for Research Indicates, they did an amazing playthrough with lots of backstory in an essay format and it's a great watch.
3:30
Is that best waifu *Speedwagon* from *JJBA* ?!
people think they want realism, what they mean is authenticity and consistency.
Day Z. For so many reasons. Basically every time that the devs try to implement "realism" they do so in a way that is unrealistic and on top of that, un-fun.
8:41 Falcon channeling his inner Rykard in a Shenmue setting was priceless.
For Jurassic Park, the actor that plays John Hammond is the older brother of Sir David Attenborough.
I don't think Gameranx will be able to do videos without bringing up The Day Before at some point.
Perfect timing for the Farming Simulator 25 release 😂😂😂😂. I enjoy these games but man, they are the opposite of FUN sometimes
Don't you dare diss my beautiful Kerbal space program
Alone In The Dark 2008 would have been a great game if it had another 3 years of dev time
No game got that level of development time back then. Unless I'm misreading your comment and that was the point!
I was just background watching this vid honestly. Then you went HARD at Shenmue 3, Falcon, and I was dying laughing
Hearing him say Sniper Elite and Sniper Ghost Warrior are the same franchise hurt my soul. Sniper Elite used to be good up until 5 ruined it.
Ghost Warrior used to suck until Contracts came out. Different devs entirely 🙈
