Why Did Jesus Change Water into Wine?

In the brief account of Jesus’ miracle of water into wine, several key OT themes and episodes emerge: three days, wedding, Jewish purification jars, ritual water, a profusion of fine wine, and an allusion to Pharaoh and Joseph. When we shine Genesis 41 and 49, Leviticus 11, Isaiah 24-25, and some extra-biblical literature on this miracle, what becomes visible is Jesus as the new Bridegroom, the better Joseph, here to signal the arrival of the messianic age of the new covenant, complete with the equivalent of about 150 gallons of wine!
