    It might be a Mini, but the smiles that it creates are not.
    Thanks for watching! Do you dig mini coopers?

      lol I can't wait for you to review a Cobalt SS / SC .. I do like mini coopers but it was until around 2015 I realized they came supercharged but then converted to turbo... They are cool, I just wont buy one because of Size, since I am 6'2" which is also why I like bigger cars and will probably never buy a miata or anything small like that..

    I bought/traded 12 cars within 2 years looking for the perfect car for me. I went through VW GTis, Audis, a Miata, Chevy Cobalt, and a few others. I finally settled with a 2005 Mini Cooper S and I haven't had the urge at all to get rid of it. They're just so damn fun, quirky and unique.

    I am 6'7" and I don't even have my seat all the way back in my 03 Cooper s, quite honestly there is more room than in my WRX 😂

    The clutch does NOT get stiffer in sport mode. The steering gets heavier and the throttle becomes more linear, but that's it.

    • @AnOddSmellOfficial
      @AnOddSmellOfficial 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Carter it feels stiffer in my opinion. maybe it's the throttle adjusting like you said but I never drive it in nonsport mode because it feels disgusting. lol

    One of the guys who works at a hire shop next door to my workplace has a widebody (I say widebody.. I guess it's more like super wide overfenders) Classic '94 Mini Cooper it's swapped with a Honda B18 and has an AWD conversion.. It's mental. I used to hate them with a passion, but his Mini has made me fall in love with them and their potential.

    I have a 2008 r56 Cooper S. Most of the main issues (recalls) were taken care of early on it it's life (30k miles), under warranty. The car is currently at 140,000 miles and everything that was repaired early in it's life, have not returned. My suggestion is to drive these cars, don't let them sit. I commute 120 mile round trip to work 5 times a week, this car has never left me stranded. Pay attention to the warning signs and address them asap, don't let leaks/noises go unchecked, it just makes things more expensive. Lose the run flats and the ride becomes bearable.

    I owned an 07 R56 Cooper S for 4.5 years until recently. It was a really fun car to drive and there's lots of options for customization. It really wasn't reliable though and I didn't even put that many miles on it (77,000km when I purchased and 107,000km when sold) every time I took it in for service the dealership always came back with a huge list of work they said needed doing and I always felt like they were trying to rip me off a bit too. The MINI is a great 2nd of 3rd car but as a daily driver I'd advise against it. I traded mine in for a BRZ though and love it!

    • @JQ_Unity
      @JQ_Unity 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heel & Toe yeah the BMW dealership is the absolute worst for maintenance. They charge a very hefty premium for the parts... that you can get online a fraction of the cost, like $100 off in some cases and they still are 100% OEM. for example. they charge $250 for each injector (so x6) for my BMW n54 engine. I can get a whole set for that price!! You gotta do the work yourself on BMWs/MINI

      do you miss it ?

    • @colt45magnus
      @colt45magnus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I miss it a lot actually when I think about how fun it was to drive. Mine had a Q300 catback and a Manic Stage 1 tune, it was at about 16psi without its overboost feature kicking in, and it would hit spikes of 18-19 in overboost. It was making about 220fwhp which was plenty for the weight and was a solid little car. Plus the 2012 had the N18 motor so it didn't have any of the real bad issues the N14 motor from the 07-10 models did. Sadly I had to sell it though, because though it didn't carry those issue over, it wasn't without any. It was at my local dealership 8-10 times within the year and a half I owned it. Thermostat breaking twice, HPFP needing replacing twice, and my seat popped off its rails while I was driving! Bent the rails when it came out. Dealership wanted to charge me $800 for a new seat with new rails because they said it was my fault lol. Ended up having to fix that myself. The killer that made me pull the trigger on selling it was an issue with the sunroof drain, where it would clog and get backed-up and leak water into the cubby area where the main computer for the interior/dash which was located in the driver footwell. If the water damaged it or shorted it out, it would end up costing almost $2500 to replace as the dealer would need to rewire EVERYTHING. I pulled the panel off it one rainy day and saw water. I made a decision right then and there to get rid of it as fast as possible. Then bought a 2016 WRX and haven't looked back since.

    Im rolling my mini summer only, and maintain it the more as I can. The car still very healthy and never put me in trouble in 5 years. 2005-2006 R53 are known to be more reliable than the 2001-2004. Maybe one day i will have no choice to put an amount of money into it, but untill this moment, I just enjoy it, this car makes everyday better! Dont go with a mini if you want nothing more than go from Point A to point B. Dont go with a Mini if an harsh ride makes you angry. If you really want a Mini, nothing gonna make you change your mind.

  • @odallard

    6' 0" , 2009 R57 (Base) , 7 years with only the thermostat failing on me recently (known issue). It's very responsive and smooth, hope to have it for life. I'd like to add, though, the tires really only touch the fender if you lower the suspension (I haven't, so no scraping so far).

    The bolt pattern is 4x100 so you can also put any aftermarket wheel for older Honda/Acura models. 4x100 is a pretty common pattern. I guess the only thing you would have to worry about is the wheel offset. I love the look of the 949Racing 6UL wheels.

    my wife and i had an R53 - a supercharged 2004 cooper s in british racing green, and we regularly refer to that car as the best mistake we ever made. we ended up selling it to get out of debt after we were given another car, but since that moment we've missed it. they do develop intractable rattles in the interior, but i don't think that should be a deal breaker for anyone.

    Interesting to hear other peoples perspective on the driving position. I bought a 2008 R56 less than a year ago, and coming from a Porsche 944 and 951 the mini is high, you sit up right and visibility is terrible in comparison. That being said the mini is a blast and I love it!

    I have a 2002 Mini Cooper non S, not that quick but on turns it feels so rigid, it sort of reminds me of a CRX I had long ago but better cornering. Either ways I LOVE it, had it for 6 months so far, zero issues, feels nice. Previous owner kept it in good condition, only had 117000 kms on it when I bought it. I've always been into the low weight rather then high HP, but would love to get it up in the 150 hp area. So far it's at 115 I think, but only weighing 2400 lbs, you feel the pull, 1st gear is very long which I like... I recommend the Mini Cooper

    You said that the torque steer was manageable. It may have been in that instance but a lot of the time it isn't in the Cooper S. I essentially learned how to drive in my mom's Cooper S and I remember it being one of the most unpredictable cars I've ever driven. Ever tiny bump sends the steering wheel from side to side sporadically lol.

      Diarmuid Marsden also when we went to drive one although it was amazing around the corners because I was coming off a 1971 vw super beetle with a clutch that was extreamy heavy I botched a gearshift because of the placement of the reverse gear (I kept thinking I was in reverse)
      And although I had definitely rosted the clutch it wasent that bad but I then smelled clutch the entire 20 min test drive so it made me nervous about the longevity of it also ive never botched the miata like I did the mini I may have stalled once or twice but overall it was much easier.

      ***** superbeetles are cool, and so are mx5s. Also david says they're spacious, but for the size they are they really aren't. I mean a 500 is a much smaller car than the mini, and in terms of use of space, the 500 is pretty bad imo. For the mini there's plenty of space in the front, but in the back it's pretty cramped and uncomfortable. That said the interior is quite nice, with some nice colour combos available as well.

    Loved my old R56 Justa. You just need to buy the right year and mileage. 05-06, 11-13, or the new F56 generation. Avoid anything 50k+ and try to get it inspected before buying and a warranty is a huge plus.
    Super fun cars but not totally reliable.

    I was first introduced to the mini coopers when my dad traded in our Honda Odyssey for a '05 Cooper S (Supercharged). Sadly, some dipshit rear ended it going 50 mph. Luckily my dad was ok, and the car stood up great to the accident, but it was still totaled. Then he bought an '06 civic Si, but he missed the Mini so much that he traded in the Si for an '09 Cooper S (Turbo) that we still own today. The '09 Cooper S was the car that I learned how to drive manual in, and i actually found it easier to drive in sport mode for some reason. So far, the only thing major that I had to replace on it was the thermostat/housing and it was a bitch to replace, but so far, the car is still running well with no issues.

    Hold on, 240hp at 12psi? As a Mini owner that sounds wrong, unless there's an upgraded turbo on there, which I highly doubt. Stock these make like 180hp

      172 crank stock for the N18, 181 for the N18. I'm pushing 20 psi and make 220-225 at the wheels.

      Bee Rice but hondas have notoriously high power for the engine size.

    • @89crxsidohczc
      @89crxsidohczc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carter yeah that doesn't sound right at all. They're at 10psi when stock. So 60-70hp with just 2psi? Definitely not. Bee Rice yeah the n14 only revs to 6500rpms. And they have less displacement. 2 ways of making more n/a power, increase displacement or increase revs. That's how Hondas make their power. More revs.
