This feels like a segment from The Grand Tour back when they had the tent, absolutely love it. Richard is the greatest ❤. We may have lost The Grand Tour but at least we still have Drivetribe for the Trio.

Richard after all these years still acts like an 8 year old kid behind the wheel. His smile says it all but most of all, he'll give Izzy the confidence to drive the hell out of that Mini. I can't wait to see Izzy & Richard take this out racing. This has been an excellent series.

All these years and Hammond still remains absolutely precious when driving a car and experiencing his rides. This man is the epitome of find a job you love and never work a day in your life. Though, we know the blood, sweat and tears involved throughout his career. He is an inspiration to us all.

Minis are excellent fun and they do make the best inexpensive track day cars...I've got an original mini by British Leyland and managed to take up to 135hp and on twisty roads its an absolute mentalist....I'm just waiting for the day that I hear the noise of metal snapping 😂 Ps ..Thank you Richard Hammond for all the years of entertainment and Cars you provided.
It literally isn't... it is great as a race car because they break all the time and minis break whether they are a race car or not so they don't have to worry. Now if you are daily driving it then you are going to be paying a lot for repairs.

@@siimot Well you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. You seem to think that you just get some more hp and then you are done. Even track cars need different suspension, better brakes, roll cage and a host of other things and then you have to pay if you want somebody else to do it. Pull your head out.
Izy's mini is pretty much what the early 2000's JCW Mini's used to be like. There is one series still using these early mini's in the non S variant called the Vertue Mini Cup.
Speaking just for myself if I had a track day car that I also planned on using to "run down to the shops" as Hammond mentioned, I wouldn't have it fitted with a role cage and done out in all those decals. That's just asking for trouble. Looking like a normal, run of the mill Mini but with all those upgrades would make it a nice sleeper car.
A £1500 Mini with £25,000 of mods is not a "fifteen hundred quid" Mini. The only original parts are the engine block and the chassis. And even those have been modified. All that aside, nicely done and i thoroughly enjoyed the vid!
I actually have a FWD car that I put a fancy diff in. Makes a world of difference, but a very involved job to do yourself. Basically had to tear down the transmission to install it.
$1500!! God we get screwed over here in Australia. Cheapest I found in a quick Google was $7000. Even allowing for the exchange rate, that's more than double. Still, that's a cracking good car. Izzy will have lots of fun with that.

Absolutely love this video and the format. IT IS NOT a £1500 car though is it? It has had £25000+ spent on it, so would be interesting to see the Lap time of a standard R53 £1500 Mini Cooper S JCW compared to this now rather expensive track day car.
This is demonstrating the journey most of us take....you start with your first car, then you get something significantly better, eventually you get the best you can afford and realise you can't maximise its abilities on the UK roads at all....and that you actually had far more fun with something smaller. Every biker realises this....start off with a puddle jumper, then you get a 400cc or a 600cc....you end up with an R1 or a Hayabusa.....but then you realise that the best bike, that gave you the most fun....was a 600cc Sports bike. You can ring it's neck and it feels fast....the R1 is actually much faster but you can't ring it's neck because it's so fast....so you appreciate the 600 far more after that..... Same with Hammond right now....hot hatches really are the best cars.....not the exotic hyper car.
Just my opinion, I would suggest that he has little feal for mid apex grip. It's not how fast you enter the corner It's all about exit speed! I would ask Stig if he agrees?

@Richard Hammond, Izzy should race her Mini in the CSCC Turbo Tin Tops series. There is a class it would fit in to and be competitive with other R53s. And you are often at CSCC race meetings with the MGBGT anyway.

I had an R53 Mini. It was a wicked car, wish I had the knowledge then what I have now. Sold it for peanuts. Now? Wicked bang for buck machine.
