    He went from "these laptops are as venerable as the postman's truck" to "these things are unusably slow" to "ah screw it, let's just tear it apart and see what makes it tick".

    You should attempt to install Windows XP on that machine. I believe it's possible.

    That has got to be the best warning sign ever: do not baby.

    It's 2023 and this device is still working. I've got 2 and I must say: someone please give this thing a raspberry pi cm4 board! The shell is unbreakable. If only the hardware was a little bit newer...

    I heard even Apple was willing to provide an operating system for them

    • @grappydingus
      @grappydingus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but OLPC turned them down, because they wanted a completely Open Source OS... and Apple would not provide that. :)

      @@grappydingus Same story for Microsoft. Only Linux could have possibly provided them with an open source operating system! 😁

    This is something that could be sold at walmart as a child's laptop instead of those really awful " my first laptop trainer " things.

      I second you on that. I would buy one of these, even at the age of 14.

    I bought one of these when they came out. I could probably locate it again. I may try if its possible to remove the logic board and replace it with a pi or pi cluster.

    I believe that it was Connor Wolf that did a video on the logic board. Im watching his video on it now, and I think that might be the video you were refering to.

    I wonder if a RAM expansion would be easy to perform...

    ive always wanted one of those laptops, there was a time when they gave intel classmate laptops but they were controversial because they paid more than what they had to pay for them, teachers barely used them at all, students would watch porn for the thrill and in many cases students would give them away or sell them.

    Hey dude: I know this vid is old but I've been wondering if the display could work inside a mini laptop or as a mini external. Thoughts? (No manufacturer really picked up the transfective gauntlet.)

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It may work, but you’re better off making your own transflective screen - I’m sure it can be done by splitting apart a normal screen and changing the light filters and such out

    • @misterb9786
      @misterb9786 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bbishoppcm thx4reply! Yeah, U're probably right. Just hopped I could pop this in a case w/a controller that would allow me to bounce between transmissive to transfective in steps like the XO/Pixel Qi screens do normally. I haven't really seen a DIY transfective solution posted online. Guess I need to do more google digging or be the 1st. Thx again.

    I just realized the XO-1 Logo is pretty much just the Cingular Wireless logo bolded! How did they get away with that?

    A touchscreen in 2007 with would've been not come cheap though, this thing was supposed to cost 99 bucks, I did want of these things though, but I a) didn't have the money and b live in Canada

      @Lukeno52 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Simple touch screens wouldn't have been that expensive (the older types that need styluses to use) - the issue would have been durability, in my opinion.
