I watched the other day when you asked us to comment to see if we could see what you're working on. Someone replied that you were pushing into the ground. I didn't put my comment but you just confirmed it. This technique is also allowing you to clear your left hip more efficiently and rip through the hitting area. It's definitely worth persevering with. Thanks for another great video.
After watching another one of your videos Mark, I gave this tip to one of our golf members, she gained 6mph clubhead speed and distance in 10 mins, she couldn't believe the difference. Great vid, and yes please let's see you try it after a few workouts.
To be honest I'm trying to stop trying to improve my swing. I need to accept my limitations and just learn to get out there and enjoy playing with what I have.
Robert Court Somebody replied here on TH-cam to a comment of mine where I mentioned I hit better shots if I take a 3/4 swing but it’s MUCH worse if I take the club all the way back. He said “the 3/4 swing IS your swing”. I took it to heart and have played some of my best golf over the last two months (about 7 rounds).
@@mattwright6075 Athletic Motion Golf performed studies on lower handicap amateurs on this very subject. Attempting to go for max. rotation or turn on the backswing doesnt usually produce the desired results, since it USUALLY involves a very late pressure shift, while most of the professionals studied are able to create the pressure shift to the left side EARLIER, achieve max handle speed EARLIER in the swing...
Done this left heel lift for ages. Helps me to time it better and rotate my hips. I tend to turn my feet out as well as this helps rotation. Picked my speed up from 90 to 102 mph average for driver. Accuracy isn’t bad either and distance greatly improved. Keep up the good work bruh.
I've been training this technique and it is actually helping me find the middle more often. I think you can get more squat and more ground pressure and gain another mile or two of club head speed. Once you hone it and start striking the ball more consistently, I think you will find proper advantages. Ball speed is well increased for you and with better strike it'll only increase more. Keep working on it. I also find it gives me a better feeling of getting my hips to clear and point to target with less effort from my back, which is where I feel like the biggest gain comes for me.
This was a really good video and very interesting. I’m 42 and have been playing since I was 13 and learnt how to swing the 80s/90s way of fairway finding and maintaining smooth transition. Many of us in the Uk learnt the game watching Faldo and his methods from Leadbetter which was all about finding a reliable consistent swing. I’ve noticed that my swing speed is starting to slow down although improvements in technology are slowing this slide, so this move might be something I’ll try and see if I can pick up some more speed once I can I find the face. Great video mark
Seeing that mat move is so helpful. I took a few swings (on grass) but imagined I was trying to move a mat like Mark was -- and man they felt like strong swings. Next time I'm hitting golf balls I'm going to tell myself 'move the mat'
I love all the talk about gaining speed and distance, as a golf coach it’s very important to understand so that I can help youngsters with big dreams. Here’s a question for you though, do you think you’d be a better player with Coach Lockey’s distance or with his short game? If your trying to become a better golfer and your time is limited, like most players, where are you better off spending those precious few hours? This is also something that I have to weigh up with the average amateurs that I teach. Thoughts?
Hi Mark, really enjoyed the content and delivery in this video. Clear what you wanted to demonstrate and I liked the analysis of a tour pro to kick it off. Looking forward to more of these in the future and how it could benefit your driver swing. Cheers!
Evening Mark. I really enjoy watching your videos as you are always trying something new in your swing. You should always attempt something new when you swing the club, as this is the only way to improve your game which is what we all want to improve your game and get better.
Great vid Mark! I started an over speed training "journey" of my own a month ago. Speed drills, strength workouts etc. Jumped from an absolute max carry of 270yrd, to hitting one a couple of days ago at 300yrd carry. I say; build speed first, fix direction later.
Trying to use this time productively to work on my timing and sequencing. Loading up that left toe on the backswing not only seems to give me more in the way of hip rotation (I’m working on my lack of flexibility too), but then driving it through the floor kick-starts my downswing and makes everything feel much more consequential - rather than forcing the issue with a million swing thoughts - and therefore is much more repeatable. That feeling of pushing the left foot forwards at the same time also improves my general stability; where before I would have a tendency to fall forward on occasion. All of this will go to sh*t of course, when we’re actually allowed back out to play 😂 Keep up the good work fellas.
I have been working on this same concept with my daughter to gain distance, but the key concept is the fact it helps push the left hip away from the ball which adds the club speed as you are offsetting the force of the swing which makes it speed up at the bottom of the swing. I work on this on our channel ‘Learn golf with Cassie’ but we look at it from the pushing away of the left hip rather than jumping up which does feel like you will lose clubface control. Mike Malaysia talks about this in his instruction too. My daughter is 13 and we are getting 170-180 yards for driver now when she gets this working right. Great discussion starter Mark, but I think the results are from the left hip pushing away and the feeling you gave of using the ground is just a way to get this move result.
This is something I have been working at over the winter with my pro, the difference in compression and speed through the ball almost instant, just need to get out on the course when where allowed and try it out 💪🏻👌 stay safe out there
At last! I have been practicing this technique since week two of the lockdown, but only the technique. I've not got the facility to hit golf balls. I can't wait to try it. It has given me high enthusiasm to get back to the range. Only time will tell if that will last!
So interesting Mark. My swing has changed a lot from the work I have done in lockdown. I have a net and hitting lots of balls but I need to see it fly to really get a full understanding if my swing changes have made things better. Thanks as always.
I had a few lessons last year which completely changed how I interact with the ground in the exact way you are now.. my swing starts with the feeling of putting all of my weight into the front foot with knee bend which takes the club away.. then pushing off back through. I get a nice draw and better strike and distance... Driver however.. goes all over the place 😂 (course closed where I had the lessons so can't use the same coach to sort my driver now)
Like what Buzza found in his study. Keep trying to send it and you’ll learn to control strike with the faster swing and still find target. It’s using the strength you already have in a more efficient way.
as I commented on your FB post, Nicklaus and Hogan both used the ground a lot. Tried it at the range this afternoon (In Norway before anyone starts criticising) with only 6 balls and driver. No way of measuring increase in speed etc, but the difference was that the ball was still about 15 feet in the air when it hit the back fence, whereas with my standard swing (feet planted) it touches down before the fence, so I would definitely say that´s an increase in speed and distance (and less back pain)
I love this move, the one you showed with the skateboard really made sense. But its tough for me is to keep from coming over the plane and over cutting the driver.
Hello Mark, I was watching old course flogs, #lockdownfun, and thought "Where is Ryan Little?".... loved his music in the flogs. The music and drone shots combined.... almost modern art 😊
Having done all these sort of things for the last 50 years, have a distance driver swing for certain, but its all about distance control on the irons ( the most underrated skill of all)
Brilliant Mark. At 55 I am trying to increase my club head speed (EPic Sub maxing out at 100 mph) and get to distances i used to see at 25 when using a non-conforming Cobra SS370. Probably not realistic aspiration but I am definitely going to try this being a relatively controlled swinger and pretty straight but not long.
This swing thought helped my game so much! Especially with the longer clubs (with the shorter ones I started pulling my shots so kept it more sweepy). Length improved a bit but consistency was finally there! Played my best round on a tough long course after trying this on the range for just half an hour. Driver was a weapon instead of a weakness. I guess I wasn't using the ground efficiently before. Thanks Mark!
Great watch Mark. Noticed as well as the faster swing speed and extra distance with then7iron that peak height was higher by 6yards too due to slightly higher presented loft at impact. More distannce with a higher descent angle by 3'. Interesting. Definitely worth pursuing.
Love this video Mark. I started incorporating the ground power stuff last season but it takes some time. I have access to a simulator and really worked through this over the winter. I really have it incorporated subconsciously now and have found a few benefits. My back doesn't get sore, accuracy actually went up and so did my ball speed. My 7 iron ball speed went from 118mph to 129mph. It probably takes a full season of working through it before it becomes natural. It would truly be a journey and I'd love to watch you take it. Go for it Bruh 👊
I believe we are a similar generation of golfer and I agree, I missed the change in golf from the accuracy to hitting it as hard and as fast as you can. One thing I remember, I always have had a "sliding" left foot and remember having a lesson when a pro was trying to stop it, oh the irony these days, I should have worked with it rather than against it!
Brilliant video. Love the challenge. Not loading the right heel to the top seems very unconventional. Sprinters use big toe to develop efficient sprinting actions. Will give this ago into the practice net this afternoon.
Great video mark, this is what I’ve been practising over the last week, I feel like I get a much better turn in the backswing and more stable, I used to have a reverse pivot and this helps me get rid of that. Just looking forward to seeing the results out on the course now. Keep up the good work 👍🏼 stay safe.
Great video Mark. Really shows if we can use our legs there’s extra power in the bank. 4 mph is huge. Saved yourself a few months in the gym there mate 😃
This concept is best explained by PGA teacher Mike Malaska, in that you're not pushing into the ground, you're pushing away from (or offsetting) the momentum that the club head generates, thereby creating a whip effect. The more you push away from the clubhead, the more speed it generates like pulling back on a whip right when it's about to reach the end, then it can accelerate and 'crack'. You can see in Sadlowski's foot movement going back and away from the clubhead after impact, the clubs extending so fast, he has to brace his body in order not to fall forward if he went with that force.
Going back to the Buzza study... Hit it flat out when you have some face to path control. BOOM BOOM BANG BANG!!! DO IT MARK!!! Can you play a full course that way?!?!?!
Not the youngest guy anymore but just tried this with my speedsticks. I have no way to measure but it sounded faster. Quite easy to execute. Can't try it with a club and balls yet but will do when the time comes.
Playing my competitive golf in the Palmer/Nicklaus era, experimented with lead toe pressure/heel off ground on longer shots. Longer but the big miss would make me retreat to the stable platform approach. As a geezer, definitely sticking with pressure on left foot ball, and using ground when 10 yards can help but not cause penalties. BTW, i train hard and often as a top ranked masters javelin thrower. My experience: technique has a much bigger effect on ball speed than fast twitch/elastic/strong muscles.
Have been trying a variant of this move ever since your Jamie Sadlowski swing analysis ("LONGEST GOLF DRIVE I HAVE EVER HIT") video in March. A challenge to sync all the moves together but seems to be yielding results in higher club head speed. Golf is hard ...
Good stuff here Mark. I naturally lift my lead heal, feel more on my toes and my lead foot tends to slide back in my follow through. Probably too much but who knows. I definitely find when I try to control my swing more, my striking goes all over the place. #FreeTheSpeed
So this idea is defo very interesting. Would be good if you could cover in a bit more detail on 'the move' maybe looking at those Pro swings in a bit more detail so I can really understand how to activate that move correctly. So I'm a pretty slim guy and decided this winter to take the strength route as felt I could gain this way without having to make huge swing changes that you clearly show get harder the longer the club gets. Put on over half a stone in weight so far and my body shape has changed massively, speed training also (but you are right it's HARD work)! So really interested to see if this translates on the course when we can play again. I'm hoping that the extra strength not only gains me yards but also gains me control of the club then I could try exaggerating this jump move if I wanted for a double whammy. I think what you need to see as you said is your longest drives becoming your shortest drives to really make it work on the course but you have to have strike and that's the tricky part that takes time and patience. Please do more on this.
Hi Mark, thanks for the videos. I think it would be gr8 to see you out playing this way. From a practical point of veiw why not just use the mat to strike ball off and not stand on also to avoid it slipping?
Hi Mark, thanks for this video, super interesting! I'm always trying to figure out how to use my feet and legs better for more power. Maybe I'll get to try this out before the end of the year 😄 I think you should defo stick with this, strike will improve in no time and you'll surely gain more clubhead speed too with practice
Strength is the key here Mark, with the comparison to Jamie you can see how much more controlled he is with that move where your body is kind of freewheeling. I guess its a natural reaction to save yourself from injury from the over exertion.
Great video and very interesting. In terms of potential strokes gained your going to be in effect two clubs better off coming into greens. A move worth practicing a little more to make it feel more natural and improve strike consistency.
Been trying this into my net in the back garden for the last few weeks. Defo feels a lot faster and haven’t noticed any difference on strike. Also feels like it’s easier to make a full back swing.
Having watched the 1995 open highlights over the weekend, you could call it the John Daly paradox. Amazing footwork, distance and power, control a bit off, but still wins it.
In my experience a lot of long hitting amateurs I play with - brought along lower body "moves" from other sports (basketball baseball football) and they add it into their golf swing (without even knowing it) and they create speed naturally. Soccer players typically have really good hip rotation. Hockey players too
Hi Mark. From day to day my swing can vary quite a bit- it's usually quite straight (neither draw or fade) but I do have a tendency on an off day to drift towards the heel. Also fats and thins. I have a net in the garden and as it was a bit of a struggle finding a rhythm I thought I'd try your swing thoughts re: weight into the left toes and pushing up and away. I thought it would cause all sorts of problems but it actually seems to help! It's hard to know about consistency of direction just hitting into the net, but the feel is more powerful and it helps me to turn through and avoid fat shots. I think because it helps me turn more I end up slightly over the top, but I won't know if that's an issue until I see the full shot path. Cheers!
This looks really interesting and think you should give it a go - I've gone on the fitness train since Christmas and it is definitely having an impact - speed is up and strike improved - just waiting to get back out on the course!!
Mark, I've been working on this move for a few weeks. Really pushed my ball contact toward the heel of the club. Took a day of tinkering to solve it. Golf is hard.
Given that most people when trying a new technique go at it a little slow until it feels a bit less strange I suspect the gains will get bigger over time. I was interested in the way you described the feeling of getting pressure in the toes which feels so counter intuitive - I must try this.
I think you can certainly use that as a weapon when the hole allows for it. I’m 41 and growing up it was all about keep it in play. We all wanted to hit it further, but swinging harder was the only thing to try. This info would have helped tremendously! Where’s the time machine?
When I was a young teenager, our club pro had me take my normal stance with the driver and once set-up, move my right foot 1.5 to 2 inches to the right to widen stance and maximise the power I had as a kid. Maybe an old silly tip but interesting to play around with. Great content as always Mark
Amazing video! Thanks bruh. I’d love to see the fitness and strike journey. You touch in that dilemma tho, what’s important about everybody’s golf? Brill vid, and food for thought. Cheers
I know you dont normally talk about otger TH-camrs but have you seen Marcus Bell using this stuff in lessons...he also gets people using balance boards etc..he gets them to feel power and shape shots through using their feet ... I think these are similar ideas...by getting rid of peoples stiffness and giving them feel he always seems to get them more distance all from the feet
I would love to see you practice and take this to the course! I am doing the training, but it is a long slog, where as gaining this has the potential to be a faster gain, then grab extra over a 18 month period... it’s hard to keep this going during lockdown!
Hi Mark, Great video once again! Your new swing looks very similiar to what james Robinson does, especially with his feet. That new swing will give you results if you stick with it, I reckon!
I think it needs more practice before taking to the course. Like you say it’s all about having the time to do it. I will definitely practice it during lockdown, but I am not sure my G80 will give me the same feedback as GCQuad 😀🏌️♂️
Having your weight more towards the toes and balls of your feet makes sense to me. It should help you push against the ground better. The more force you can push against the ground, the more force you can put into moving the club while maintaining balance.
A few years back I did some experimenting with a "happy Gilmore" swing for just 30 range balls or so. It was powerful, but as it was a walk up of about the speed of a volleyball service and then front foot landing stop & swing there were far too many variables to control. That diagonal of the foot pressure picture was part of it. I found that the stride up was more productive with a 35 degree angled approach (coming a bit more than from 5 o'clock for a right hander) up to the ball. The power was there like going from 215 to 230 yards, but I didn't understand how to incorporate something in-between out of a controllable stance. I think you've pieced it all together. It will be great to give your foot pressure method a serious trial. I think only you know if you're wanting to play with it or incorporate it further; I'd guess you're searching for this for a reason and if its something you need to play with more or just go and do I'd love to see your journey through the videos.
Would like to see you try 3/4 holes on the sim using both just as a guide for now. Get that right with both clubs you could be talking 15 - 20 yards difference, that's a big difference. Since watching your speed videos in the last number of months I've very much focused my practice and training on speed, even if I'm less accurate, get the speed and learn to play with it.
Mark, my question is with the driver is it weight on the right foot on the back swing vs weight on the left on the back swing with an iron.?.great video

Amazing to see the footwork and how much it increases the speed and distance!
Will work on it!
Thanks for this great video!
Tried this move today and worked fantastic. Definitely longer drives and straighter. Thanks for the tip.

Why not start this "jump" swing and also at the same time with a low and high hcper... track data and check after 6 months what were the takeaways ? 😊

I have been experimenting the past few weeks with lifting the left heel slightly. I like it.
The Stack n Tilt guys have been right for years. Changed my game for the better.
This is really interesting, as a tapper golfer I’m keen to try this. Soon hopefully! Great video
Fascinating stuff Mark.
Been waiting for this one since the txg pod cast.
Super video and line of investigation.
Love to see you try a low spin driver/setting with the jump swing.
Strength is the key here Mark, with the comparison to Jamie you can see how much more controlled he is with that move where your body is kind of freewheeling. I guess its a natural reaction to save yourself from injury from the over exertion.
Great to see what you’re experimenting with and the effects on speed and strike.
Would be good to see how you get on with this on the course 👍
Great video and very interesting. In terms of potential strokes gained your going to be in effect two clubs better off coming into greens. A move worth practicing a little more to make it feel more natural and improve strike consistency.
Very interesting. Best vlog this year. Well done Mark. I going to give a go
Yes, try it! Great vid, thanks
Good video mark , keep it up 💪🏻
Been trying this into my net in the back garden for the last few weeks. Defo feels a lot faster and haven’t noticed any difference on strike. Also feels like it’s easier to make a full back swing.
Really great video Mark 👌🏻
Cheers!
Love how brutally honest you are
great video ,fantastic information .cheers
This is great I can see the left hip clears a lot quicker.
When I was a young teenager, our club pro had me take my normal stance with the driver and once set-up, move my right foot 1.5 to 2 inches to the right to widen stance and maximise the power I had as a kid. Maybe an old silly tip but interesting to play around with. Great content as always Mark
Great video 🤓Mark. Look at the launch and descend angles on that 7 iron. That will help you keep it on the green! If you hit it. 😁
Amazing video! Thanks bruh. I’d love to see the fitness and strike journey. You touch in that dilemma tho, what’s important about everybody’s golf? Brill vid, and food for thought. Cheers
Yes, you should definitely try playing like this!
Defo would like to see a swing change journey
I know you dont normally talk about otger TH-camrs but have you seen Marcus Bell using this stuff in lessons...he also gets people using balance boards etc..he gets them to feel power and shape shots through using their feet ...
I think these are similar ideas...by getting rid of peoples stiffness and giving them feel he always seems to get them more distance all from the feet
I would love to see you practice and take this to the course! I am doing the training, but it is a long slog, where as gaining this has the potential to be a faster gain, then grab extra over a 18 month period... it’s hard to keep this going during lockdown!
Hi Mark,
Great video once again!
Absolutely fascinating! The jury is out, but we know the verdict will be a safe one!
Fantastic video!
Mark, my question is with the driver is it weight on the right foot on the back swing vs weight on the left on the back swing with an iron.?.great video
would absolutely love to see you play this aggressive way on the course once they open
Hi mark is there much difference in what your trying to do than when you do the step through?
