Giles, as a senior, I very much appreciated this instruction. It cleared up a few things for me. More advice for the older generation would be welcome. I see so many of my older friends that took up golf later in life that struggle week after week with little or no improvement. Thanks for the efforts you put into these videos. Regards from Portugal.
Thank you for being so frank about the obsessive turn culture. Please do more videos like this. The average club golfer will benefit massively from this.
This is by far the best online instruction video. I will be 79 before Ontario’s next golf season. Last October I added 15 yards to each of my shots . Because of Giles’ instructions I am excitedly looking forward to April when I can use what I have learned to further improve. Thanks Giles!!!
Giles, I love the videos they have helped so much. I have a teacher at GOLFTEC who teaches a lot of what you do. However seeing you do it and explain it has helped more than you will know. Thank you. I needed a swing that doesn’t hurt my back and is easy to understand and learn. I do have a request though, is there a way you can put a short game complete video together covering: pitching and chipping, bunkers from all lies together??? I am almost 61 and would love to see you explain it like you did the senior swing. I went out today and really started using your lessons. My teacher helped me a lot, but yours was finishing touch. I started hitting my driver well over 200 and all my irons are at least 2 clubs longer. It is absolutely amazing and no pain. Thank you. 😅😊
I enjoy your videos and you come across very well on camera. I am 56 and struggle with the downswing a lot regarding inconsistent ball striking due to weight transfer issues and I found this very informative and relevant to me, keep up the good work and more swing techniques for us older golfers would be very welcome thanks.
Hi Giles, love your videos related to senior golfers. I am 86 years old and can relate to all your comments. There are too many videos on TH-cam related to a professional golfers swing. Appreciate your senior videos, keep it up we need your help.
Maybe consider senior videos for the older seniors say 65 or 70 and older. 45 years old is quite a difference from how one can play golf compared to older seniors. Something to consider. You are by far the best golf instructor on the internet and I look forward more of your videos.
I’m 47 so barely in the target demographic, but I feel like these videos will be very helpful to build a swing that I can stick with for the years to come. Please make some more content for those of us not quite in our prime anymore. Thank you
Great video, thanks. Yes please keep us senior golfers in mind. I have been using less side-bend for a while, as it is kinder on my back. Adding more arm speed seems to be working for me.
@@Gilesgillgolf For sure. I used to try to get more club speed by turning my hips faster, which seems to work great for my club pro, but not for me. He is 40 years younger and a lot fitter :)
Excellent information and instruction. Those are not just faults that occur in people 45 and over. They occur at all ages due to poor teaching and bad concepts that are being taught to golfers of all ages. I suffer from excessive side bend (likely from having ingrained faults from years of bad instruction), and know it, but struggle to find a way not to have it occur. I'll try the feel of keeping the rear shoulder at its top of swing position during transition and downswing. Thanks for the tip!
You are 100% correct! I see a lot of juniors struggle with this as well and ages of all golfers in between. It sounds like the final part for you is the most important in this video
Excellent job Giles in suggesting ways to escape the 3 biggest swing killers for senior golfers! As a senior golfer, I am using your suggestion of "standing taller!" But, I also was trying to elongate my backswing which ruined my timing! I am now working on "dropping or pulling the arms down" and "turning and rotating" through the ball! Although it's a work in progress, I am seeing results! Well Done Giles and Thanks for all you're doing for senior golfers!
@@Gilesgillgolf Since I live in Southern California Giles, I have the luxury of playing golf year round! All I have to endure is a little wind and 65* temps once in a while! I'll definitely be working on this on the course! Thanks again Giles!
Thanks. I don’t view your videos as ‘giving tips’, more than that they are helping me rebuild my swing and enjoy my golf so much more. As requested by others here, short game tuition would be extremely useful.
You are absolutely correct that instructors show you the swings of the world's top players and then compare to your swing. They would do better to compare to players on the senior tour. Thanks for the excellent instruction
Good one Giles, trust me, the message is more important than the mild verbal miss at 8:29 (LOL) I love your emphasis on the timing of the weight shift, not the forces involved with the move. Coming from a deep but shallow, inside takeaway swing heavily depending on toe flip timing, I suffered from back pains. Granted, my posture was rather too upright (quite the opposite of Adam S). I started embracing a simpler stack & tilt swing, plus my club fitter did two things after my first swing last year, commenting his back started hurting simply by watching me :-) : 1) improved my posture exactly like you showed and 2) put me into 3 degrees upright, which helped as well (being 6'5" tall). Simpler swing mechanics, quieting down my wrists (the hardest part, I do still close the face a little too quickly with irons in between P6 and P7 as Hackmotion keeps pointing out to me) did the rest: I can play 5 x 18h a week now if I want to without painkillers.
Great information. I’m 60, 5’8”, 160 (so the same size). I don’t want to lose the distance I currently have as I get older. Keep this type of training topics coming.
Excellent Senior information. At 60, and a five handicap, I'm still looking to improve, find ways to maintain speed, distance while also maintaining fitness. Nicely done. One suggestion. Toward the end of the video, when you were showing how to put everything together, ads stared showing up. You might want to start the "review action video" slightly earlier, while "reviewing explanation" at the closing; thus the ads show up while you're speaking not showing the motion. GLAD I found your video. I subscribed today as well! 👍
Great suggestion! However, I find that if you struggle with a shortest backswing then you need to focus on the second thing I went through in this video. Unless you’re not swinging it to left on parallel then your backswing length is absolutely fine
Great comments, especially that side bend because i've often thought that was crazy. It killed Zalatoris! Senior content is always appreciated by old buzzards like me. I'm 80 & last year was my best year of ball striking. Winter training in effect now.
I'm hitting the big 6-0 in January. These tips were very useful. Seems to have greatly improved my swing and swing consistency with my irons. I will continue to practice this. More content for senior golfers, please!
I really like your videos. Ever thought making a video how to play without using the hips? I for myself cant use my hips because my right hip isnt developed
Hi, Giles. Thanks for the great tips. Im 63 restarted golf recently after 15 years break dedicated on growing three kids up. Well, i tried the you called stupid tilt as I was doing 15years ago. You are absolutely right! I injured my hip and IT band. I struggled to keep my lead arm elbow straight during back swing bc my body dont have flexibility any more...post any tips you might have to gain consistency with lightly bent elbow, would be appreciated.
I personally struggle with consistency. I tend to not sequence my weight shift properly leading to occasional poor contact and a lack of power. I’m 69 years young and play 4 to 5 days a week. My typical score is low to mid 80’s with occasional high 70’s round when everything comes together. My consistency issues starts with my 7 iron through fairway woods. I tend to hit shorter irons pretty well. Hope this helps!
Thanks, Giles 🙏🏻 I’m 72 years old, and 6’1, and I think I have a tendency to bend over too much at setup (.. and probably swing too hard). Yes, standing taller is so important for all golfers as well as senior golfers. That paws will just help you sequence the body a little bit better. I won’t be afraid to say senior then 😅
Giles.. got question... im 69 lady just healed 2 broken vertebraes and cant wait to golf again.. and im left handed... how can i drive safely... when i "normally" drive even before back injury.. if i would do a full back swing the ball would either go left or right... but if i only do what i call a 1/2 swing then put "power" in swing as its coming down to strike ball.. it will go straight? i dont twist i stay straight and just rock back n forth like you are showing in this video .. any suggestions or am i swinging ok ? im just a recreational golfer here in fla ... your mother gave me your channel name as i am a subscriber to her channel also ...
I would say, if you are missing the ball along way left and right then that is a clubface issue. It’ll be coming down more than likely and then you’re having to flick at the ball to try and control the face. I would look to see if there is something going on in that area Great to hear you’re enjoying her as well!
Pros don’t rotate as much as they can. The data shows that the only their hips around 30 to 45°. Actually, most amateurs turn more than pros do in the backswing
@ but that’s not a good thing. The more you turn in the backswing the more you have to turn in the downswing so actually you’re creating a sequencing nightmare for yourself. Go look at a lot of the AMG stuff and they will show you how it’s not about turning as much as you can. It’s about sequencing your body correctly
