This video is awesome. Broke my ankle a few years back and when getting back on the golf course could only swing slowly at the beginning. It allowed me to find my true golf swing, lower my ball flight, swing on plane and hit the centre of the face more consistently. It changed the way I approached the game and started shooting lower scores. Great video guy!

I can totally confirm this, yesterday I won our club championship with what was felt 50% speed with all clubs. With my drives I lost perhaps 10% distance but gained 1000% accuracy and shot the best score of my life so far. Oh and I only play with one arm. I still get GIR distance wise easily, but these days, especially us men have become obsessed with distance to an unhealthy degree. It's not what you need to shoot low scores, surely not if you can't control it. But I suggest we start focusing our worshipping more towards ball-striking. TBH even when I was a bit obsessed with distance, I always got more tingles from watching Oosthuizen or Els hit an iron, than Dechambeau destroying his driver...

Had one of my best rounds after pulling a hammy playing footy. Strapped up and in pain it made me swing slower. Generally my driver swing is too hard for my age and body!! This is a wonderful video that reminds me to swing more in control rather than smashing drives. My bad back thanks you both 😁

Great experiment - I find when I slow down everything coordinates better with only a minor loss in distance & id rather have a more accurate shot than an extra 20-50 yards as that 2nd shot off the fairway vs out of the rough with trees lowers my overall score & is a more satisfying game 😁

Something I learned when I used to club fit for golf galaxy back in 2014-2016… most players when trying to “crush” the ball, swing about 5mph SLOWER than their “fairway finder” swing. For me at the time, I swung about 107-110 trying to kill it, and about 113-115 swinging “smooth”. (Now I’m fatter and have a bad back and those numbers are more like 98-102 😞)

This is such a great idea! I can't tell you how many times on the course I have thought "just swing smooth and get this in play" and it ends up being the longest drive of the day. I did this yesterday on the 18th hole with several friends and hit the longest drive of my life on course at 310 yards of total distance, and I would guess it carried around 290 - 295. I am not historically a long hitter as my average carry with driver is around 265. I have started a new routine with driver the past few weeks that seems to have helped a lot. My first practice swing "feels" like a 60% swing, then I make practice swings back and forth until it feels uncontrolled, losing balance on the follow through or I lose the feel of the clubhead/face control. When I step into address the ball I try to feel like I'm swinging roughly 10% under where I lost control and I've hit the best, longest and most accurate, drives of my life. I'm also peppering the sweet spot with ball marks on my driver which is a great feeling. The dark colored cnc milled face on my Cobra Speedzone shows impact marks extremely well like most drivers with dark colors. It's like having built in strike spray!

I coach high school golf in Michigan. I do coaching session called "Driving School" . I have the kids swing as hard as they can with out stopping 3 times. Then I tell them the speed limit is 50mph (50% power) once they start hitting efficiently I bump up the speed limit to 70mph (70% power) . They usually find that they hit more fairways and don't lose much distance.

Best round of golf I've ever had was after a car accident. I had a broken ankle, bruised ribs, strained neck, concussion and countless bruises and abrasions. The best I could do was a ten percent swing with limited range of motion. My drives were all over 290 and I hit 16 greens in regulation. Two holes in one, two eagles and on albatross. Truly a magical day, I don't remember any of it because of my morphine drip but my friends tell me about it every time we play.

Seems like 'the smoother, the farther'. I recently hurt my back and my physical therapist said that, if I want to play golf this summer, I had to swing at no more than 50-60%. I am now swinging really slowly but I have never driven the ball better. My backswing doesn't go past 90 degrees (about to my stomach) and I have to take it back extra slow (think Matsuyama tempo with John Rahm's backswing length). I then start down slowly and accelerate after the ball, but not massively. It feels like a long pitch shot. But I am not only hitting more fairways but, because I am hitting the middle of the club face more with the much slower swing, I am only losing about 8-10 yards. With my irons, I lose almost exactly 1 club. I was shocked because, I figured a 50-60% swing would equate to about 70-80% of the distance, but my distance is about 90-95% of what I was hitting before the injury. If my back starts feeling better, I want to ramp it up to 70-80% swing but, based on what is happening and what you saw in this video, I should be getting closer to my old distances without feeling out of control. I will no longer swing at 90% or higher - I am almost 60 and back injuries don't just go away. GREAT VIDEO.

Since we’re on speed & distance, I have a question maybe you can answer here, or maybe address in a video…. My home course, hole 8 has a wide creek about 280 gets there, takes 300 in air to carry. Anything that lands near 260 gets there when it’s dry because the landing zone is significantly down hill. My 3 wood often gets into the creek, but my next club down (3iron) leaves me a solid 40 yards short cause it doesn’t touch the slope. This leaves me a long 2nd on this par 4. Is there a good way to take some off of 3 wood?? (like 10 yards max) tee it higher? Choke down? Just want to know the general consensus option here.

I think every amateur needs a radar device like prgr or simple speed radar.
I spent years! Trying to hit a bucket of balls 300yards(actual yardage 180-200). Speed sticks did not work initially. Until!! I got a prgr.
    Now:
I see mph! Now using prgr with speed sticks got my speed from 92mph to 100-104 currently.
Problem I spent years thinking I was swinging 100-120, but I likely maxed at 90mph.
PRGR got me to rethink swing mechanics(dr kwon). Now I know in the morning my approx speed and some days it's 95mph. I know with this speed my bucket is only going 95x2.5 approx.
    Making progress slowly.
Key is swing mechanics and loading properly.

Swing “speed” is unique to each player. It’s easier for me to draw the ball, by smoothing things out. However, my fade requires me to turn fast. This makes perfect sense for me. A patient swing allows me to come more from the inside, and release the club a little earlier. Swinging fast kicks the shaft out more, to slightly cut across the ball, and the release is slightly later.

    • @jamiesloan7259
      @jamiesloan7259 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Roenie I actually did that yesterday when my buddy hit one in play(scramble). I felt myself slide hard, but not get too “spinny”. I think it’s where I swung so hard, my left side felt the need to apply the brakes. lol. The result was a longgggg ball, with a little draw. I play ball control golf, and usually shoot somewhere around par. I don’t feel comfortable swinging at it that hard. However, I might be onto something. Haha Great post by the way…. I understand what you’re saying. I’ve literally experimented with everything. The right shoulder down, under, and through is actually when I play my best golf. Great advice for ANYONE, my friend.

I had some terrible driving days trying to "hit" the driver, turns out I don't deliver the club properly doing this. Now my main swing thought is "senior swing" as I gently hit the center of the club face up into the ball, the ball launches with very little spin, and I'm happily on the fairway. When I TRY HARDER, it all goes to hell :/

Hi, I get the prospect of more consistent direction/results and that the lower % feel does not lose so much speed but isn’t the loss of carry really significant vs stock when you drop % effort and for people like myself with much lower carry getting to GIR wouldn’t happen, certainly at 70% or less effort. If stock shots are widely inconsistent and low effort is the remedy that would be different but isn’t the need to get consistent distance (remedy the core issue) in order to get to GIR?

I recently did the same after a disastrous round... On the driving range I reduced the power of the shot on every club and the results surprised me... I was able to get the same distances I usual get with every club but with 50% swing speed and my accuracy went way, way up... On the next round I played I dropped 17 strokes off my score using 50% swing speed...

I’d say my gamer swing for my driver is 90-95% swing at 112ish MPH? I’d be curious to see what speed training would do to this concept…a gain in speed but a 75-85% swing but maybe closer to what was previously 80-90% swing.

Slower swing increases consistency of strike. Finding the middle of the club face will improve strike and accuracy 100%. On Saturday morning I'll still swing out of my under crackers 😂

The compromise between head speed and face contact location is what undoes my drive. So I no longer put all my energy into a drive - it's probably around 80% effort. Off-center strikes make a total mess of any flight direction or curvature on the ball. At 80% I get a regular strike and more reliable results. However, my stock drive at 76 years of age is never more than 200 yds.

I need to figure how to get get better sequencing and tempo into my swing to increase my speed and distance. My current 92-95mph swing speed just doesn't carry the ball far enough for the effort I put in. I guess I'm not finding the middle of the face either!

The harder I swing the straighter it goes. I have to feel like I'm accelerating. If I ease into it, I steer, and lose accuracy and power. If you understand path and face, and ball flight, you can swing as hard as you want and keep it in play.
