  • I'm a gigantic fan of the MacBook Pro 13. Its just about the perfect blend of power and transportability that you dont really see on too many devices.
    But is the cheapest version powerful enough to be your only video editing computer?

    The question I always have in my mind. You answered it.
    The base model might be enough for editing here and there but it's not future proof. The specs could not last you maybe at least 3 years. Eventually, if you do heavily on editing, then that could be a bit of an issue.

    Good video thanks for sharing your thoughts. You should use multicam mode in Final Cut for your edits and combine then into one file, then you can switch between cam a and cam b and cam c if you need it- would make your life a lot easier. Final Cut can sync them up based on sound - so just clap as you start recording. You are very good on camera - very natural, subbed ! Also worth buying Compressor to send the files to it direct from Final Cut Pro - then you can time them easier and it opens up a lot more final rendering modes for you too including batching.

    I really liked your videos and reviews, and that's the reason I had my company order this model for me. And yet, I couldn't be more disappointed! The Macbook Pro 2020 13" (Intel 8Gb 256SSD) is so slow! And I'm not using it for video editing... It takes ages to boot/reboot, it lags when opening an application, it freezes when you have many browser tabs open (and sometimes it looks as if the GPU cannot handle them), it cannot handle many peripherals attached to the dongle (which in itself is a poor design)... At least once a week it freezes and reboots on its own. I found it to be a substandard product considering the price tag. As it is still covered by warranty, I will contact my IT department to return it to Apple - I hope they will offer a newer model, because this one seems to be a flawed model.

    I'm using a 2017 MacBook Pro base model for video editing. I bought extra ram and that was fine, it was when the memory data through rendering was starting to use the ssd drive was when I Really became unstuck. Fortunately as it was a 2017 mbp I was able to swap out the ssd drive, something you cant do on the 2018 onwards. I reckon a 2020 should manage 4k easily. But then I also have a 12 core 2012 Mac pro that does the job just as well.

    Hey everyday dad! Could you consider adding the render of the Bruce X performance test? It’s a really small file and let us realise the relative performance between our laptops and the ones that you review. This way we can see the actual difference in performance and the total gain that we will have if we purchase the laptop that you are reviewing. And if you already rendered, could you post the amount of time that took you to render? Thank you!

    I don’t know much about computers and all I wanted to know before buying this computer was will this base model be enough to handle editing. And this video answered my question perfectly!! I ended up upgrading my RAM to 16GB hoping that’d make it run faster than my current 8GB but I also don’t plan to store any of my videos on my actual computer. Do you think using an external hard drive would be better?

    • @ToriDanielle
      @ToriDanielle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So your 8gb is running slow right now? I was going to order the 8gb one but went with 16gb one today.

    • @xitsbiebzforever
      @xitsbiebzforever 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tori Dixson yeah I had a 2011 MacBook Air and I feel like it was even slower coz it was so old. I feel like everyone automatically assumes that you need to upgrade the storage and you’ll be good but if ur gonna do more than just web surfing and you wanna run programs ur gonna want a faster computer which is why the RAM is important. You made a good decision!

    I had the 4 port Macbook 2020 but returned it. With a simple 1080P 15 minutes video, trimming or even zooming on the time line would make it freeze, sometimes requiring me to restart FCPX. Now waiting to see if Apple fixes this bug. I was surprised to see the Base model do so good. Might need to get the 16inch. Thanks for the review

    Great video, thanks! I'm rocking a fairly high spec 15inch MBP from 2017 which performs great but it has that keyboard and is feeling kinda big these days. I'm so drawn to this base model, but being a recovering GAS sufferer the 2.0/2.3GHz keeps calling me also!

    Hmm the video rendering speed was not bad. 440Seconds render time / 5 Minutes clips = 88seconds avg per 1 minutes clips.
    I might buy this model for some video editing and school.

    I use my MacBook Air as my daily machine and folks use their 12 inch MacBook and even iPad Pro as their everyday machine. There is not one Apple computer with a keyboard that cannot be a daily work machine for video editing in 2020.

    Hey Gary I like your video and style very much, I bought a base model after watching this, and if you don't mind, I would like to ask for your permission to share this video to a website in China for the embarrassing reason that TH-cam is blocked in China, It wouldd help a lot of people with their decisions. Of course I will link the original video so those who have access to this can find your channel. Thank you very much!
