    Great demo Geoff and thank you. Very clear, concise and well demonstrated processes which really will fast track those of us who don't do this professionally but need to get some jobs done at home. I'm about to build a bunch of built-ins for my wife and the kids and appreciate your time and effort. Only problem is - now there's another new Festool I just _have_ to buy! 🙂 Cheers from Sydney - Dave

    Wow I've been looking for the PVC 1mm edging for so long. I always see IKEA edging which seem so much thicker than the normal melamine tape. I ask around everywhere but no one seems to have any idea about it. Thanks for this tip, I'm going to seek out the product!

    Thx for the clarifications between those 2 types of edge banding. I could not find any tutorial about the 1mm not pre-glue edging I bought. Eventually I don't have this glue at hand now, but what types of glue can we really use for this?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you don't have the spray adhesive at hand, the other alternative is to use the contact glue which you can buy in various size tins. This will need to be applied by brush to both surfaces, waiting till touch dry, then sticking together carefully as seen on the video. If your from Aust, then here is a link:

    Great video. I like the look better of the PVC edging, how does it hold up with the spray glue, I'd imagine it probably lifts I'd it in an area above the stove or something?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you purchase a good brand spray adhesive it should hold up well. Above a stove should be okay providing there isn't a constant build up of moisture say, from steam and the edges of the cabinet door are always dripping (that would be extreme and your exhaust fan is not doing it's job!)

  • @sidenote7555
    @sidenote7555 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video Geoff. Could I ask how you detail the corners? Does it matter which edge u do first? For example for cabinet doors?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I round the corners using a sanding block then wipe clean with edge cleaner. When edging doors for example it depends what is seen first as to weather I edge the long side or short side first. E.g. if the doors are exposed and you see the side of them then I would do the short side then the long side last so it covers and that’s the final surface you would see, if that makes sense.

    Fantastic and so helpful thank you. Can you use any planer blade? And how do you work with iron on edge tape with the inside curve of a pantry?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there,
      Thanks for Watching and for your feedback. I prefer to use the 300mm/12” planer blades as you can control them a lot easier and also because of the long length it runs flat along your material better giving you a more flush finish on each edge. As for using an iron edge on an inside curve, that may be difficult as the iron won’t run flat along it. You might be better of doing this with the 1mm edge tape and contact glue. Try heating the edge tape up with a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the edge tape (where the curve area is) this will make it more playable when going on around the inside corner. Make sure you use something flat to also press it in so you eliminate any gaps between the edge tape and the shelf edge.
      Keep watching thanks again

    Good vid, but would have been helpful to know what setting for the iron, and what grade sandpaper

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Put the iron on the highest setting, usually linen or cotton, so it’s HOT. As for the sand paper, obviously use a fine grade so you don’t rub through you newly created edge too quickly (say 240-320 Grit) good luck with your project

    This is the best demo vid out there. Quick question about the chamfer tool. Would I be correct to assume that if I am applying 1mm edge banding that I would need to buy the 1mm chamfer tool?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      With the chamfer tool, the 1mm/0.6mm is referring to the size of chamfer it’s going to produce.

    Hi Geoff, just found your videos, so clear and informative; thank you for taking the time to mske. What are your thoughts on using a router table and flush cut bit for trimming the egde banding?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Michael for your support. Yes I think it’s a good idea using a router table (have you seen my table build?) hint, hint, you just have to make sure you get it set up perfect with a lot of trial runs. You can actually do a small round over for the edge which I have tried before works well. Good luck 😉👍

  • @harrywest6624

    Very helpful thanks! You reckon a heat gun and roller would work ok in place of an iron?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could try but may not get as good results as the warm iron melts the glue on the under side as well as providing a flat surface helping to press down the edge tape. This principle is only good by the way for 0.5mm edge tape. If I were you I would stick to the iron, trust me...Good luck and thanks for watching. 👍

  • @captainsmith8842
    @captainsmith8842 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Im trying to use 1mm pre glued PVC tape and the iron just doesn't seem to make it stick. The heat gun works better but still has areas where the bond isn't great. Is pre glued not ideal for particle board?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No for 1-2mm edging I always use a contact glue method were I prepare both surfaces with the glue, wait till touch dry then apply. I only use 0.5mm pre-glued with an iron otherwise the whole process gets time consuming

  • @mickeykat92
    @mickeykat92 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's very informative! I do have a question though. We have some unpained mdf cabinet doors. I want to paint the fronts and apply the iron-on tape onto the sides. Which would I do first? I have a feeling that if I painted the fronts first, the cutter would scratch the paint off

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael
      Yes I would definitely edge first then paint, you would probably see a colour difference also if you didn’t when opening the doors…something else to consider 👍

    What is your routine for cleaning the conturo?

    • @geoffsjoinery4990
      @geoffsjoinery4990  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there,
      I haven’t had to fuss to much in regards to cleaning it, the roller mainly gets strings of glue on it which can easily be peeled off. The beauty of this machine and the glue puck system is it only heats up what it needs not like the cheaper Chinese versions which take small glue pellets. With those type of systems they have a glue pot set up which heats up and cools down when your finished with the machine. That’s the main issue with those type and why you eventually get crusty bits from the burnt or dried out glue in the pot which turned me off. I am not sponsored in any way by Festool but I am happy with this machine, it’s one of those “buy once, cry once” puchases!
      Cheers thanks for Watching
