I never comment but wanted to mention how helpful this video was. I watched a lot of other videos trying to figure this out and this one was the magic ticket for me. Thanks so much for your time and explanation!
Clamping scrap to the underside of the worktop with some sticking out catches the overspray and makes positioning the bottom of the strip easier..- just saying.!!😁
How long did you wait for the glue to dry? I HHHATE doing edgebands, I've messed up so many. Here in the US, there's glue already on it, and I heat it up with a heat-gun but it never sticks. I hate cutting this stuff, and i hate even more the edges.
When you offer the edging to the work top, why not offer the factory edge to the top? And then when you file, it is only necessary to file the bottom edge, which will not be visible, and there is nothing there to damage.
I do this for a few reasons, one it’s very hard to line the edge up perfectly two the factory edge is never great, you don’t notice it in the bottom but you will on the top, much nicer finish when you trim it to suit
@@LTWCarpentry Try this?: Remove the tape, clamp a length of clean straight timber over the top edge, then gently push the strips factory cut edge ( check for best ), up to it and in. polish off with wet and dry, - dry on a flat pad. No risk of damage to the w/top at all. ...Perfic!
I prefer the brush on glue at least you wouldn’t have to clean the customers brand new end panel after the instal 😂😂.. well presented still dude..I assume you probably never even noticed what happened until you viewed the upload ..
Hi, my strip came off just a little bit on the corner, on the passage to the kitchen, probably was hit by something. It's maybe 1 cm, can I glue it back with superattak, or does it have to be specific glue? thank you
This is veneer edging correct? it's much easier to snap and work with and it's thinner. Laminate is much harder to deal with as it's much stronger and a resin based product.
I tend to use a router and then file & sand, but looks fairly quick this way. Not used that spray before, does the overspray wipe off the end panel easily? Might try it next time.
Yeah I have done it with the router before aswell, I just find this is cleaner then routing indoors. No it was a pain to get off the panel, I should have covered it up. But I deffo prefer the spray, so much easier to apply
I was apprehensive about tackling this job on my new worktops. Followed all your guidance and ended up with a flawless, professional-looking finish. Very glad I watched your video before I started! For me, I found a half-round file worked better than a square-edge file for removing the top edge.
Have you ever done a long run of edging tape which has held up? I've got to make a massively awkward worktop and have little choice but to use ~2.5m of edging tape to edge it after tapering a 1.2m section from 800mm wide to 570mm with a little radius transition.
Just building myself a new PC desk using a kitchen worktop on top of IKEA Alex drawers. I didn't know how to apply the laminate trim.... You came to the rescue! Best order some contact adhesive now. Big thanks matey. Apples 😂
Funnily enough I just did this today _before_ this video popped up in my feed. Well done TH-cam! I used the pot of contact cement, but watching this the spray-on looks easier for sure. The adhesive dripped a lot but I had the sense to tape plastic over the side panel and floor. A couple of things I could have done better (pre-trimming the edging lengthwise... duh!) but overall I was happy with the result.
Thanks for sharing this step by step process, i DIY our kitchen to save the install costs and this was one those critical cosmetic jobs that I wanted to finesse .
@@LTWCarpentry I was surprised has strong Evo contact adhesive was, I applied it with a brush. (following instructions on tin) .My edging was same dimensions as worktop so just cut to length, I used finer grit paper just to be on the safe side, just to finish the corner of. I’m currently in kitchen Reno planning stage on a budget. I’m in love with this worktop - is there any chance you could tell me what it is please? Thanks for a great video 😊
@@LTWCarpentry I actually done it today and wondered if pva glue would be better, but I used a tin of contact adhesive and it worked well. It was scary using the file as bits broke off but all worked out well! I even cut a curve on a laminate worktop which was scary too 😂 Good old you tube and good old you for sharing your skill 🥰
I always trim the bottom not the top edge, its much easier and you dont have to worry about damaging the worktop
Q - why would you not put the strip (new edge) level with the top of the bench, rather than the bottom of bench?

Great idea Ian ! Why didn’t I think of that !
Cardboard and sellotape, I've just done this very thing on my kitchen worktops and it worked a treat.
@@nathancloke8970 awesome buddy ! Anything to keep it looking tidy !
good idea
Spray glue over the end panel 🤦🏻♂️ should have covered that first mate
It wipes off mate

Before gluing any cut edge on chipboard I make sure all dust is removed from the paws in the chipboard using a vacuum cleaner.
Good point. Or use air gun.
I use my makita leaf blower (mini one)

Again nice job. I use a wallpaper seem roller to make sure edging is all on. Its a 2" rubber wheel does a good job. Saves your hand.
Why wouldnt you glue the top edge flush and file the bottom edge flush thrn sand ? Just asking
Because the edge as it comes from the factory can be sharp and uneven so it’s much better to cut your edge down to what you want it to be
Where can you buy the side strip. Could please recommend so hardware shops in Manchester
Most places that sell worktops will sell the strip, try b&q and wickes 👍🏻
Thanks! Quick, to the point, good filming, no BS or waffle. Just what I needed.
Thank you very much buddy 🍻

Hi, yes I have. It’s the same process just a longer section. Hope this helps
I can see the wood exposed where my edging strip is on my laminate worktop. Have the fitters filed/taken too much off?
Very hard to say without seeing it, feel free to send me a picture on Instagram if you like
Good video Lewis. Looks much quicker to use the spray glue also easier to get a more even coat. 👍
