The real mvp here is TH-cam’s algorithm for introducing me to Pete recently and reminding me why risk is so fun. Once again, making it look easy Pete, good stuff!!!
I liked how all the strategies come together: taking calculated risk in using fog early at turn 1 to leave your cap unguarded to gain an early bonus, forging a one turn alliance so you can get your bonus and then betray at the right time since its in your best interest to do so - decisive action- , cleverly hiding white so you get the bounty, displayed good understanding of the flow of the game and correctly guessing the enemies probable plans in the fog, forging ahead at the right moments, and that your starting choice even though it wasn't what you thought was ideal turned out to be the best course. Nice job.
Hiding white was huge too because it led to pink breaking blue in search of white’s bounty. Pink thought blue didn’t finish the job and never even realized Pete was hiding him. It worked out perfectly.
I knew you had the W when no one else bothered the left side of the map. Big bonuses for basically free. The only opposition was their starting troops for the most part. Beautiful pivot off wanting that low center position.
I gotta say, after the practice and your analysis at the start of this game I just felt the win getting closer and closer. Progressive is just your playground.

Brilliant play! Taking a sub optimal capitol but having the foresight to realize you were out of every bodies way just let you snow ball. A few lucky early kills for some extra points really really solid Pete! It’s actually fortunate white capped where he did cuz idk if you capped where you would have if not for that. It really set you up

Wow these settings are great. Like you said, the insane bonuses prevent big stalematey moments. One of the other cap games in 2022 tourney lasted for nearly an hour and sets were in the 70+ range i think, with people having stacks of 300, this one ended much quicker. Beyond that, excellently well done game! 43/44 in 2nd round is absolutely nuts!

Interesting that in the 3 games posted here for these settings, the player in the top left snowballed hard, 3 point guard on 12, seems to play out well on these settings.
I'm going to sound crazy saying this but a couple months ago I played risk randomly with my friends and wanted to get better. I looked up risk world championship and killpete was one of the first videos suggested. Subbed when he was at 11k and now I check again he's almost at 40. Crazy how the algorithm works
The reason behind the easy win: All other caps were on the other side. Going last can often be helpful. You are not at the mercy of someone after you placing a cap poorly or inside you.
I haven’t finished the video yet, but it just occurred to me, maybe the way to incentivize more offense is if each capitol generates extra resources. 🤷♂️ Worth a shot
Interestingly I would have done the intro differently to you Pete. As a last player your troop bonus means you have a high likelihood of being able to bully white out of that capital, making it so you are getting a bonus for two caps. During practice games as a last player I frequently put myself in positions to exploit earlier players capitals and it usually lead to the win. Always love seeing how different players handle risk.
It's a shame Sterling couldn't join the match. He's a good player, brings alot to the table. Lol. Great strats. Caps suck. Caps usually lead to stalemates.

I think the bounty system encouraged more aggressive play this time than in other games randomly online. I think if more could be done by way of that example to encourage not stalling caps could be made better. I don't know if it's worth it but it was a thought.

Yeah you wouldn't have lost your cap (no way he rolls 6 v 4 on a cap) and then you have 11 to hit a 6 cap.
Sounds like an easy way to make sure someone targets you to attrition all game.
You probably got lucky, I doubt this is a good strat overall. Maybe on maps without much bonusses
