Marie Anne I love the little things you suggest for outfits. It's amazing how just little things can really spruce up an otherwise boring outfit. Like belts, shoes, necklaces, rolling up sleeves or even French tuck a t shirt. I love that look. Thank you!

Loving your channel! I have a plus size friend. We were out for the day. She had on nicely fitting jeans and a T shirt. I suggested tucking in the side. She liked it and posted a picture on facebook. Immediately got a comment that asked if she had lost weight. She was thrilled! We are going shopping soon with certain pieces in mind for each of us. I'm looking for white trousers for instance. She has decided she needs to return 3 dresses she recently purchased because she realized they just were not "right". She is "petite and curvy". I'm so excited to be on this journey with her! Thank you, Marie-Anne!

Hi Marie-Anne. I just had surgery, and my destress includes weekly yoga, more vegetables, and walk-induced life that is dwindling my stress weight. What I love about this video is it is so versatile for people who are transforming into better health and weight and refuse to go in public wearing leisure wear and monster shoes. This is a great selection, I have very similar pieces and did not think about it.

Living in rural Australia I'm not so much an elegant classic dresser anymore rather a hippy/Gypsy/boho style lady, in my little van out camping. Through you however I have discovered I can still employ your advice and create a somewhat elegant boho look and even a classics style too for when the desire strikes. My wardrobe has been such a jumbled mess for so long that I have been wearing the same frumpy style clothing to hide my weight gain without remembering what gems I have hiding in there. I never thought I was much into shoes either but today I started putting my clothes and shoes into categories. I have been pleasantly surprised and a little shocked as to what my wardrobes have to offer me and the number of shoes I possess have shocked both myself and my daughter. What is the greatest surprise is I instinctively own many of the things you recommend as the staples. I really enjoy your videos, thank you.

Great video! I love how you demonstrated the look on different body shapes. I was initially confused with the plus-sized example- to my eyes, the jacket and the pants were not in proportion, but having a shorter jacket would not be flattering. Then, you mentioned that the pants would be better if they were longer, and I thought "A-ha! That's what it is!" :) So, thank you for showing the compromises one can make to create a look that works.

As a 60 year old post-menopausal woman with the dreaded extra tummy weight and large bust, I can relate to your comments about proportion. I always carry a medium to large sized structured handbag and I get my hair cut in a way that allows me to create some volume in my style. As you suggest, I buy tops with V or open U necks, and although I prefer no pockets in the bust area, I will buy a shirt with a flat pocket of the same colour and fabric, but I never buy tops with chest pockets that have flaps.
I am a bit taller than most women and I always try to get that long legged look with my trousers, jeans, linen pants etc… and my shoes are often in the same colour as my bottoms. I used to wear capri length pants, but I have donated them since I started following your French Chic advice. When I shop, I feel like you are by my side coaching me with a critical eye for style when I’m in a dressing room trying on new clothes. I have walked away with no purchases many times, whereas before I would have bought impulsively. Merci beaucoup for your expert teachings.

Definitely accessorize with vintage belts, brooches, earrings and rings thrifted from Vintage Boutiques and Op-Shops and Garage Sales. I like to mix and match Classic clothing with some bohemian clothing (maybe hats, and boots, jewellery, and a Pashmina). I never wear more than 3 colours. Two basic or neutral ones, then an accent colour for a pop of interest. Hi from Australia from a 60 year old - maturing and getting better at having fun as I grow up!...lol..😉😂😂

    Thank you, Marianne!
I am considered plus sized. I feel like the plus-sized model’s jacket, with both belt AND breast/hip pockets adds too much bulk. Belt, okay. Hip pockets, okay. Breast pockets, just too busy.
And yes, trousers needed to be longer.
Frankly, it was just all too busy.. the stylist couldn’t decide what to leave out, so didn’t leave anything out.
With big gals, less is more…
I love how you were able to “cobble together” your personal version of the original outfit. I have shift dresses with matching jackets for office attire, but I often mix and match the jackets with skirts or black trousers, or other shift dresses in different (but complementary) colors.
I do tend to stay away from wearing true navy blue and black together…. Not sure why, but it just doesn’t feel right… almost like I’m “trying to get away” wearing two pieces that don’t quite match.
Would you wear a solid navy blouse/top and black trousers/skirt?
PS, do you still have the navy dress with white piping/trim that you wore early on in your vlogs? I remember your chat about the Tidy Closet…. Sitting in a elegant parlor…
    Loved that dress!

    Hello MARIE-ANNE,
I am a big apple shape. I have decided to love wearing the fashion even though I put on the stress weight around the middle. I dumped the toxic people in my life and am feeling better. I decided to reward and pamper myself big time by keeping the black and white checkered jacket that I purchased from banana republic. It's a boxy cut and stops at the top of the hips. I wear it open but with either all blacks, all whites or all neutrals on top and bottom. Sometimes I add a really noticeable belt. I love the look. I am discovering wearing the tailored larger size actually is very slimming and at least I don't look like a sausage about to burst if the clothes are too tight or made of that clingy polyester. I stick to mainly natural fabrics that are tailored and are lovely to look at and elegant. I love the baggy high waisted pleated tailored trousers (its like the 1930s and forties and fifties look.) The high waist actually helps me to hide my tummy even with the pleated trousers. I do wear dresses that hit below the calf or pencil skirts that hit below calf or around knee length. I love the below the hip blazer length. It really does help to flatter the figure. I tend to stick to the rad tailored monochromatic looks and wear discreetly printed feminine blouses. I find frilly, gauzy, slightly flamboyant blouses to be more flattering than shirts with the blazers and trousers. The blouses are lacy, frilly or perhaps slightly see through natural breathable materials. While I am on my new selfcare path, I also purchased some new exercise wear. When I lose the weight, I will have my lovely new wardrobe altered and pick up a few new items to celebrate, hopefully a couple from lilysilk. Thank you for all your style advice. Also, there was a jacket I just loved. It was cut on the much smaller side and of course I looked like a sausage about to birst. So I decided to size up a couple. The jacket is now wuite loose but it looks really good!!! And i dont look like a sausage about to burst!!!❤

Wow, there is so much to learn from this video. What a great example of taking a look from the fashion pages and adapting it to one's body and style. You always add that little bit of flair to an outfit, and the trousers with the godet at the hem is just perfect! Also, the silver chain belt. I have recently begun using the French tuck method for my tops and find it adds the shape I want, and I wear belts. This is due to your wonderful inspiration. My mind is whirling with possibilities! I think if she had slimmed down by getting rid of the pockets jacket, also she could have have selectedd a slightly shorter jacked! with the a thin red belt peaking through! The shoes are just all wrong, I agree! Personally I would have gone with a smaller bag in red perhaps to accent the belt! Longer pants with nuetral heel of course! Loved it! 👏🏻 so many great points! Especially with the last outfit which had too many accents … print of the jacket, fabric of the jacket, golden buttons, numerous pockets with detailing, two-tone belt, chain on purse plus lots of detailing on the front of the purse, and shiny pumps with green heels 😅… too much fuss, and all the accents are scattered all over the outfit … you don’t know wear to look 😜, your eye is kind of jumping all over. Would love to see more of this content, helps with sharpening the eye ❤️. Thank you!

Bonjour Marie-Anne, I really like this video, it also relates to plus-size ladies which is good. I am between a 14-16 although I try to stay in a size 14! I love these ideas, I regard myself as guitar-shaped ha ha, I tend to cheat and have two sizes in my wardrobe, sizes 14 and 16 but it's really handy because then, there are no nasty shocks in not being able to squeeze into things and it saves you having to keep buying new if your size tends to vary from time to time but I do admire you French ladies for your discipline with your waistlines.

Like the plus sized jacket. So many things are styled for smaller figures.

Chanel style buckle fabrics can be bulky. The ones that were once part of my collection, I have parted with partly for this reason. I would opt for an all cotton Italian style open weave Jacket, one in either Madras plaid, Tartan plaid, a low contrast Glen check plaid, houndstooth or window pane or Tattersal check rather than a Buffalo plaid in red & black or white & black (blue & black is a lower contrast and thus lowering the enlarging effect) like high contrast French Gingham check or an Argyle plaid.
Yet, rather than a high contrast bolder prints, I prefer lower contrasting with smaller checks, yes, even the two featured in this video. Even an Argyle works in lower contrasting colors like a light grey & medium grey or a black & tan combination.
I have a houndstooth black and white wool skirt which stretches two guidelines, one, of avoiding bold patterns and two, of using primarily solid colors on the bottom half.

You did not make something of it, but I thought you're version of this outfit looked even better when you pushed up your sleeves. I guess it's just how natural it is for you to be so chic all the time 👌🏻🌿💕

You look beautiful in this outfit; I especially like the chain belt, which emphasizes your flat tummy and slender waist. Thank you for these ideas.

Chain belts can also become necklaces if wrapped right.

@@americafirst9144 Yes, you are so right! I have worn my chain belts as long necklaces. One with charms on it was a real hit! Thank you for bringing this up.

@@nataliamiles7109 My step sister actually got the inspiration. She helped me put together an outfit and it was smashing: black turtleneck, zebra skirt, black ankle boots and chain belt necklace!

@@americafirst9144 Now that is the kind of outfit I love to wear! I really need a zebra skirt--or giraffe print. I have a leopard-spotted pencil skirt from White House Black Market and I adore it. I love the whole idea of your outfit that your step-sis created: very modern, youthful, but also still elegant.
