"Say what you will about the Splicers of Rapture, but at least they weren't racists." That made me laugh out loud. I think that the entire Bioshock series has a lot of cautionary lessons about ideals run amuck in-between action sequences. In all honesty, I feel like a lot of the storyline is unfairly overlooked.

Therefore, I believe both curious facts are worth mentioning them.

Wow ! The fact that you stopped playing, bought the steam version, and replayed it all to the restaurant just to experience the base game. You have definitely earned much respect from me for doing that. You are a true gamer in every sense of the word. The story in this game is very convoluted and just plain weird so I know you will love it.
One hint, I know you don't usually like using sights but you may find that you are wasting a lot of ammo with some guns, especially rapid fire stuff w/o sights.
Infinite has tougher enemies and less ammo then Rapture so beware. :).

The anachronisms in this game are one of my favourite parts - slowly realising a song playing in the background like the barbershop quartet (God Only Knows by the Beach Boys) is actually a very real song redone in the fashion of Infinite's setting is great, and the mystery around it is also very good.

A lot of TH-camrs and even when I played the game, just don't pick up small things like you do. Like how Lutece was the name on the quote at the start of the game and the card, and how in Bioshock 1 you pretty much called the entire plot twist from a mile away simply because of your involvement with the plot. Awesome stuff.

Wow that first church-like room upon entering into Columbia is beautiful, but the accompanying music makes it ethereal

  • @TuxedAaron
    @TuxedAaron 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yes, as I'm sure you've discovered by now, Columbia and Rapture are polar opposites in many ways. But one of the biggest differences between Between Bioshock 1+2 and Infinite, is that where Rapture is concerned, you come into the story at a point where the city has already collapsed. With Columbia, on the other hand, Booker shows up at a point where the experiment is still WORKING (at least, as far as the people who are benefiting from it are concerned). And while he isn't the root cause of the city's downfall, he IS the catalyst that triggers everything. So you get to watch as, little by little, his presence strips away this little slice of Heaven, and essentially visits HELL upon these people. And frankly, whether or not they DESERVE it is not for him to say.

Already putting things together! I was concerned you'd miss the barbershop quartet as a lot of people trigger it but then head to the flower shop before they have a chance to realize there's something just ahead. The little (and not so little) things in the game are great, and I think you caught everything there was to see in that first section, except for the cops introducing the sky hook just before the fair, but that one is really minor and not any foreshadowing.
There's lots of historical references in the game that are important to both the plot and themes; refreshing your memory on them may be worthwhile if any of it is a bit foggy. The Boxer Rebellion is the only one that is fairly different in the game (IRL the US was a very minor player, but the US also didn't have a floating city full of racists visiting China at the time), so things like Yellow Peril and the Chinese Exclusion Act would be more on point for what the game is referencing, in this case.
I did find this game's combat to be more difficult than the first, and had a bit of trouble getting out of bioshock 1 & 2's logic for how combat flows. Since this is your first time doing an FPS on a computer, I'd say it's ok if you want to reduce the difficulty, but it really doesn't seem like you need to.

I’m a *little* older than you are at 54, but I am very impressed at the references you get and knowledge of the past you have (for example, knowing the meaning of Vox Populi). I think that’s a somewhat rare thing nowadays. My favorite part of the video so far so far is when you saw the Lutece’s through the telescope, noticed they weren’t there afterwards and thought it might be a glitch. I also appreciate the fact that you look at all the misc posters, signs, etc and are trying to piece the story together. It reminds me very much of the first time I played this when it was released. You have a very soothing southern accent, the classic ‘Gone With the Wind’ kind, much less grating than most playthroughers. Speaking of voices, I still believe this game has the best voice work of all time. Bioshock Infinite is still in my top 3 games (and I started with Pong back in 1975), mostly because of the relationships between the characters. I actually play through this once a year on my birthday, unfortunately there are no surprises in the plot any more. :)

YAY for the PC playthrough! Two quick tips for playing on PCs, as you said this was your first shooter with a mouse and keyboard; set your in-game aim sensitivity so that a comfortable range of motion of your wrist is about a 180* turn ingame. This will allow you to flick your wrist to aim instead of moving your whole arm, and you won't need to lift the mouse up as often. Second, use sights whenever possible, as PC versions of most games don't rely on aim assist.

Having just watched the RDR2 playthrough, it`s cool to see the paralels between these games in regards to the time period. Columbia must have been built around the time RDR2 takes place. I know they`re in no way connected, but it`s just interesting in what ways a time period may be applied to a video game`s settings depending on the developer`s inspiration and creativity.

Enjoy your excitement when you equip with deadly hardware for your protection. Sounds just like my youngest daughter when she's all wound up and into the story.

I’ve played this game at least 3 times and I decided for nostalgias sake to click on this. I never noticed the tear on the Lutece statue that’s really cool

You probably don't recognize the voice. But that woman scientist that keeps popping up is voiced by none other than Jennifer Hale a.k.a. Commander Shepard :D

I love this game/series but I have to play on Easy because I’m 74 this year and did not grow up playing video games 😁 You’re one of my two favorite TH-camrs to play through Bioshock 👍🏼 I’ve never seen any other gamer on TH-cam understand what’s happening in the game as quickly as you do.

I also just got around to playing this a few weeks back and I cant believe I waited so long. This is easily in my top 5 of games ever played. The story was amazing, the visuals are unreal, and the gameplay as a shooter just feels so good. Playing the DLC now because I just cant get enough.

I just discovered your channel and I am enjoying your playthrough. BioShock Infinite is one of my favorite games. You pay pretty much attention to the dialogues and the audio logs, which is always nice to see.

    You mentioned to post recommendations.
This brought to mind Dishonored (sneaky steam punk dystopia).
Also Call of Cthulhu (H.P. Lovecraft psychological mystery).

Love this game, hope you will too. I second the recommendations to play the DLCs.
I don't think it's been mentioned: When you enter Columbia the priest says "Is it someone new?" and when you entered Rapture, the splicer said exactly the same thing.
