I want this beautiful song played at my funeral. It expresses everything I believe. "Some may come and some may go, people surely pass...we are but a moment's sunlight fading in the grass. When the One that left us here returns for us a last. I was 18 when this song was popular, now I'm 70, but I'm still the same person inside.

Actually, tune was released in summer of 67, and played on the air on underground stations like The Marconi Experiment in Phila., Pa. Then it was rereleased in late Summer of 69 , right after WoodStock mid-8/1969 , and became a big hit on the AM stations like Philadelphia's Famous 56 WFIL! In fact, in early 10/1969 it was played on Dick Clarks American BandStand , which I watched religiously for nearly 16yrs. , . Show came on @1PM on channel 6 ABC network.
I 1st heard on WFIL @ late 8/1969 @ 12yrs.old , or young. Jesse Collin young was a great musician , and underated; should of been @ Monterey POP Festival , along with The 13th Floor Elevators, Standels, Human Expression, Cream, , and Chocolate WatchBand, and the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Turtles, Troggs, Music Machine, The Seeds , and Count 5. Just my opinion.

i saw this performed live around 1968 in the bay area , california . the youngbloods were on stage and someone came up and whispered something in Jessie's ear . He broke out into a huge smile and began to sing . near the end of the song he began to cry . he had just found out that his wife has given birth to their first child . it was the most emotional performance of this song i have ever heard.

Yes, very lucky . the concert was outdoors in a fenced area . it became a free concert because there was a hole in the fence where many people snuck in . the security didn't care . it was very relaxed and loose in those days .
The Doors and some other groups were there also . it was fantastic . i'll never forget it.

I was an 18 year old girl in high school and all the boys we hung around with got drafted. They were all excited about going to Vietnam and "kick ass". Only 2 came back ; one hooked on heroin, the other committed suicide. The rest we couldn't even bury as there were no remains. I remember seeing them off, one by one, as they left. Haunts me to this day and this song brings me peace when I hear it. God bless all Vietnam Vets.

Because there wasn't any internet, video games, or social media, people turned to music for entertainment, and it was a bigger part of our lives.

Just think of all the great groups that came through while we were in junior high through college plus a couple years after. This was definitely one of them. We have been truly blessed with the music we grew up with. Thank you God.

Born in 1967,I am old enough to remember Nixon and the war"ending", but mostly staring at the pictures on the mantles of Aunts and Uncles , of their sons, teens in their dress uniforms, formal photographs, flag backdrops, the stoic faces, of the older cousins I never got to meet. He had to leave for Vietnam the next day. This brings back so many feelings and memories of that time in my life. Beautiful song and so heart felt 💓 I used to go into my brother's closet when he was in Vietnam and smell his clothes because I missed him so much. I graduated from high school in 1969 and went to work that summer on a construction job building apartments. I spent the entire day, day after day listening to the local AM rock station WCOL in Columbus, Ohio. This was one of the songs I heard so often that I got tired of hearing it. Two others were _Spinning Wheel_ by Blood Sweat and Tears and _Honky Tonk Woman_ by The Stones.

    Get Together
Love is but a song we sing
And fear's the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
    Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why
    C'mon people now
    Smile on your brother
    Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Some will come and some will go
    And we shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
    Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
    Fading in the grass
    C'mon people now
    Smile on your brother
    Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now
If you hear the song I sing
    You will understand (listen)
You hold the key to love and fear
    In your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
    It's there at your command
    C'mon people now
    Smile on your brother
    Ev'rybody get together
Try to love one another right now

When this song was released, I was 20, living in the Haight Ashbury and trying every day to make the world a better place. We may not have completely succeeded, but this is not an all-or-nothing game, or one with a definite end. I was 18 yrs old and also living in the Height Ashbury district San Francisco. Our generation went down in history because of what we stood for " PEACE and LOVE" movement. It was so beautiful and magical I remember young babies and children roaming free in their nakedness. It wasn't a big deal because we were free spirited and most of us would get nude ourselves. Dancing in Golden Gate Park as well as in the streets. The aroma of incense filled the air mixed in with Mary Jane. We tried to make a positive impact and difference in the world displaying love and peace for all of humanity. We tried but unfortunately we failed. We are old now with these precious and powerful memories we have been truly blessed to have been a part of this era and lived the very best of our lives. I am now 73 I look forward to leaving this world because of the way it has become now. The generations of the 70s and 80s get it....but the 90s and 20s generation have no idea what they are doing. This world will never be as we tried to make it become. It's very sad that those we love especially our grandchildren and great grandchildren will be left behind to endure of what's coming in this world that is full of hate and evilness.

Ironically, half the people trying to "other" their fellow Americans into oblivion rn are of the very generation that grew up with this song. They either forgot, or chose to ignore, the message. Their actions make it harder for the good boomers to connect and join forces with the new generation struggling to be heard, to be accepted, to be loved. Which may very well be the intent. But hate can't win forever. So, as the song says,
C'mon, people now! Smile on your brother! Everybody get together! Try to love one another, right now!

I'm here because I heard this song today while scanning through the stations.
I've heard it many times, but today I seemed pressed to find out the name of the song & band. So when I got home, I went to Lyrics search, as I could only remember a couple of lines. Well, actually it's a pretty simple song w/only 2-3 basic lines. 😂
I'm from the 60's, born in 1957 & love/enjoy most of the 60/70's music. Never been anything like it since & never will be. ☮️✝️♥️✌️

They are playing these old songs on the radio but you have to find a good oldies station to hear them. Back then there were no stations that just played a specific genre. They played the top 20 from every genre on the old AM stations. They really mixed up blues, soul, R&B and rock. Look for WLS in Chicago in the 60’s here on TH-cam and you too can hear what we heard. 😊

We aren't dead yet and we need a resurrection and give this government a run for its money in a peaceful non violent way. Thank you Chet Powers, ( R.I.P.) for this song and, What About Me. ❤
